Massive win for the Foxes today, now in 6h on their own - after Forest were beaten by Boro.

Wood played 90, scored from the spot and provided the cross for another.

Kotahitanga. We are one.

Good game, and I will say that the atmosphere at Selhurst is UNBELIEVABLE. Possibly some of the loudest I've heard. Well worth getting to if you have the chance.

Anyway, the important stuff. First half was pretty even, second half was pretty much all Leicester. Wood hardly got a look in in the first half, put one over that he should have done better with, and absolutely let rip a free kick from about 30 out. Looked like it was on target, got a slight deflection and dipped over. Hell of a ping. Aside from that, usually found himself to have a couple of men on him, was pretty well marked.

Second half was all Leicester, someone (Dyer?) missed a sitter. Nugent came on and I think he and Wood play far better combo's that Wood and Schlupp (who looked middling). Wood had a better second half - if he plays with someone on his wave length his little flicks and touches are deft and well placed, just needs others to read them. His goal was well taken. Defensive blunder outside the 18, Wood had a bit of work to do and hit it home powerfully from a tight-ish angle.

Leicester play a lot of long ball, suits Wood, though given his size he's probably not as dominant as you'd expect. Schmeichel can kick the living shit out of it.

Farken difficult to mute celebrations when you're sitting with Palace fans, forgetting to celebrate Palace goals, but not being able to jump up for Leicester goals. Automatic reactions I tell you!

I was watching an England game in a bar in Buenos aires and leapt out of my chair when England scored, evil stares all round and they weren't even playing Argentina, it was Bulgaria or someone in the World Cup. Awkward....

Huge game tomorrow morning vs. Watford (which seems to have half of the Latin world 'loaned' to them) - basically if they don't win Leicester are fecked for another year. Seems Wood is so heavily marked these days he can hardly move. If Leicester win and Bolton lose then the stars align to the play-offs

30 gone, only chance fell to Wood who didn't make contact. Should have done better. He is very heavily marked. Huuuge game!

Aaargh. 40' 1-0 Deeney (Watford) off a corner. The game is just counter counter counter.

Chalobah. 42. I think that's the hardest I have ever seen a ball kicked. Wow.

Wood could have had a penalty - 70'. Great second half, Leicester playing with about eight strikers. Watford up 2-1.

And that's that. Pretty tough to make the playoff now unfortunately. They had their foot on the throat, just couldn't pull through. Heartbreak for the Foxes!

To stay on topic... Wood wasn't up to much. Marked out of the game. Probably the difference between where he is at and being world-class -  couldn't do a lot about the pressure.

Damn it.

Jeez what a strike - silence after that

I think you have hit the nail on the head. Wood has talent, no doubt but if you can't shake Championship defenders (and I recognise the marking etc), then how will you fair at EPL level? I think thats why Wood never really broke into the 1st team. Has talent, but talent for that level? I really hope he does prove that he has.

There were some heated debates about this a while back when I said that I didn't think he'd ever be anything more than a decent Championship player. I think he simply has too many limitations in his game to succeed at higher levels of the game.

I think that's an fair estimate on his ability. That said, he still young enough to learn a couple of tricks which could change that. There are also not many 21 yo strikers floating around the EPL though (off the top of my head) purely because I think at that level, you talent AND experience.

Wood is the new Killen then?

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.

Killen was never going to break into the Premiership, Wood could do.

I get what you're saying, but I'm of the view that as a 21 year old going on 22 like Wood is this year, the room for improvement is reasonably limited, especially in the technical aspects of the game. In essence, if you don't have 'it' by then, you're just playing catch-up, without ever being likely to actually catch-up. And let's not forget that Wood was ditched by West Brom as they got Lukaku on loan, who is 2 years younger than Wood and has been very good at the Premier League level this season.
Which brings us to another point - yes, experience in the Premier League is important, but if you're good enough you get opportunities. Like I said, there's Lukaku at 19, Benteke and Wellbeck are both just a year older than Wood, there's also Raheem Sterling. And that's just off the top of my head. If we actually look at the players born in 1991 playing in the Premier League, some of the players on that list are pretty impressive - Eden Hazard, Oscar, Oriol Romeu, Andreas Weimann, Alex Kacaniklic, Fabio Borini.

I agree. I guess when I say 'could', it's like the Daniel McBreen Theory (TM) that says even when you should be washed up, you can surprise some people.

I don't think he will get there but I am open to being surprised.

Yep. His best chance is to get promoted up, and gets a couple of opportunities and take them.

Ricki Lambert had played more than 450 games in the lower leagues before getting promoted with Southampton. Despite topping the championship goal scoring last season, he was largely benched during first part of this season. Yet a fortnight ago, at 30 or 31 years he was the top scoring Englishman in the premier league. There are various other ' tradesmen' (strong, technically competent and good finishers but lacking great speed or guile) strikers across the mid and lower table sides who have done a job for their team, although there are fewer of them than in the past, that is for sure (both James Beattie and Francis Jeffers were on the bench for accrington Stanley overnight against max crocombes Oxford utd!)

Yep, Ricki Lambert was exactly what I had in mind when I said that Wood's best chance is to get promoted up and take the opportunities that he gets. Marcus Stewart also had a successful season in the Premiership after being promoted with Ipswich Town, and had a successful year or two with Sunderland as well.
But these days players like that are very much an exception to to the general pattern.

I'd say in general, it's quite the opposite on this forum at least - we tend to overplay the abilities of lot of our players.

All hope of promotion isn't lost - If Bolton draw or lose against Blackpool and Leicester beat Nott Forest then Leicester still go through to the play-offs.
