Rob, have you been dobbing me into my manager for coming on these forums at work? You scummy bastard :P

HAhaha yes I am that scummy assistant to the manager - I was sure that it retained the provision "only at lunchtime" and only came up while reminiscing about the certain addiction said 'manager' had to stuff.co.nz for 4 years before rising to his glorious new position. Shark it isn't his birthday today is it? ......

Haha, I don't think he cares. Nah, if it is his birthday he's done a great job of keeping it secret.

Leeds are in turmoil. 5 managers in a year. it would be a risky move.

As a Leeds fan I'd be stoked, we've got a decent manager now but I have a feeling a feeling that he won't be the first kiwi at Elland Road since Danny "Tin Man" Hay.

Also, we are probably the biggest side in the Championship, so if he signed on and we managed to go up, I can quickly see him being demoted/bench warming like Hay did before him.

Leeds are the Liverpool of the Championship, right? Keep saying how big they are, but haven't done anything for a while?

Except that Leeds would love to have Liverpool's money and financial stability. They've been financially crippled for a fourteen years due to over-spending in their Premier League days when Peter Ridsdale was chairman. They were in League One in 2010.

Things have improved apparently in that they "only" lost 22 million pounds last year (to June)....

New owner Massimo Cellino inherited 40 million pounds of debt.

But the former owner of Serie A club Cagliari seems to be turning things around and aims to break even soon.

Chris is Leeds' most expensive signing  since Nick Barmby in 2002 from Liverpool.

So splashing that sort of cash indicates Mr Cellino is lubricating Leeds' wheels quite nicely...

However, Cellino is under investigation in Italy for failing to pay import tax on two multi-million dollar yachts and has only just been reinstated as club chairman following being banned by the Football League for a conviction for tax evasion in Italy last year.

Manager Uwe Rösler has been described as liking his teams "to play a high, pressing style of football, and is also a fan of squad rotation among players. With a 4-3-3 or 3-5-2 his favoured formations. Rösler compared his style and brand of football similar to the philosophies of German compatriot Jurgen Klopp."

Might suit Chris with the squad rotation - and Rosler has certainly been very approving of Chris in the media.

$NZ10,000,000! Shame Hamilton Wanderers/WaiBop don't have an on-sale %.

Actually I think they do. Players under the age of 24 have a slightly different fee system in place. Basically its designed to stop rich clubs poaching young players at the cheap, selling them for massive profits and the original clubs getting nothing.

A small drop down percentage fee to reflect the work these early clubs put in to helping make these players.

Happy to be corrected on this.

Sounds good.

NB 1% of $NZ10mill = $NZ100,000. Go WaiBop!

Hamilton clubs should have made a fair bit from Woodsy over the years.  The 2010 WC, transferring to Leicester and now to Leeds. I'd like to see us (WaiBop) be this season's ACFC!!!

PS am happy with all of this being a Leeds and Waikato football fan  :-)

£3m is actually around $NZ7m. No idea where you got 10m from.

Three for me, and two for them.

Quite right. Probably switched from 3 to the 4 (as in year-deal) when I multiplied.

Leeds United head coach Uwe Rosler has explained why Chris Wood was left out of Wednesday night's pre-season friendly matches.

Leeds played two simultaneous friendlies against York City and Tadchester, with Wood featuring in neither.

The New Zealand international had been expected to play but was left out after reporting a fitness worry in the warm up.

Rosler however has insisted he was just rested as a precaution and Wood's absence was not due to a more serious problem.

It is understandable the Championship side wanted to play it safe regarding Wood, with the pre-season games essentially training exercises.

Middlesbrough saw new centre-back signing Alex Baptiste suffer a double fracture to his leg on his debut at the weekend.

Wood is Leeds United's most expensive signing in over a decade, arriving for £2.5 million from Leicester City earlier this month. He made his debut in Friday's draw with Harrogate.

As most sides seem to do when they sign him - they think they've signed a target man. He isn't one. Can't win anything.

No great comments from the Leeds fans;

"I hope Wood is unfit (in a match sense) because he has been way off it since the 1st 15 minutes..............

"wood shoulda gotta call behind him. i think we have a goal coming though..dallas on debut "

"So are going to jump on Wood for being terrible after only one game, just like we always do? Or are we going to have the sense to give the guy a chance?"

"He wasnt bright in the pre season too, havent seen him done anything right except for the goal against everton, which i start to suspect was a pure luck...

He's either not good as thought or needs another striker by his side"

"he has been bad all game"

To me, Wood hasn't really progressed at all over the last few years. He still looks like he's playing his first game in the Championship, it's weird.

His style in this game remarkably similar to one Rory Fallon I thought.

PS Left before shoot-out. Who won?

Tbf he had a bit pressure on him from the previous Leeds taker missing but he won't be winning fans with a penalty like that as a striker

commentator said it best- for a centre forward that was a shocker. The one observation Id make on Wood is he appears to be a snap shooter- ie pulls the trigger and hits it hard from wherever - as opposed to a Shane Smeltz type poacher who maybe doesn't shoot as often but is very very clinical when he does and doesn't try and hit the cover off it.
