I'm genuinely scared every time I see another comment in this thread that he has gotten injured

Extended highlights Mjallby v GAIS 4-0 on the weekend (Henderson # 19 seen here and there):

Previous games: on as 70 min sub v Malmo 1-1 away draw 2/9/12:

Bit of a treat- full game with Henderson starting 12/8/12 in one of the season's classics IFK Goteborg 4 v Mjallby 2 :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6bES2LTMrA

Henderson quite prominent - headers on target etc. and really cool to hear the Swedish commentators saying repeatedly "Hender - son" and "New - Zeel - and - door".

Henderson has appeared in most Mjallby matches in August and September - also used as a sub after the 70th min in both the 0-2 home loss to Syrianska 27/8/12 and the 3-0 away Swedish Cup win over Ostersunds 12/8/12

Swedish table here - Mjallby 11th of 16 teams but is so close that with 8 games left, Mjallby could mathematically finish first if they win all their matches! But at least they'll finish in the top half with a reasonable run of form: W: 6  D:9  L:7

Good game from Hendo in a big 1-0 away win. Subbed off in 74th minute & replaced with a defender with team ahead since 56th min. and looking to shore up the defence to secure the win.

Leaves Mjallby in a handy seventh in the 16 team league sandwiched between famous clubs Helsingborg and IFK Gothenburg, with five matches left in the season (which concludes November 4 = Nov. 5 NZ time).

Game stats here (very good site for match details):

With Henderson playing every game for Mjallby now and maintaining his fitness, must be coming back in to All Whites contention?

His manager obviously rates him to be starting him in crucial league games and he looks to be doing well in one of the most improved sides of the second half of the season in Sweden (3 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss in last five games)

Hendo's appearances this season - he only came back from two years out injured on August 13 (six weeks ago):

Good to see him getting a run and staying fot after a pretty hellish two years.

Would be interesting to see who he would come in for.... who would you drop, Keat, Vicelich, Payne(Probably) although he's done nothing wrong.

Permalink Permalink

I'd imagine Vicelich would bow out gracefully between here and the next bunch of games, whenever they are

Permalink Permalink

Can't see him dropping out of contention - why would he do that the closer he gets to potentially going to another world cup???

If anything, i'd say he'll keep making himself available till Ricki taps him and says, might be time you retired again as i won't be selecting you for hte next squad and its unlikely i will again.

I would like to think he'd be the player dropped and that we'd try to develop the younger kiwi players.

Craig Henderson's Swedish Allsvenskan season is over with Mjallby losing 1-2 to Norrkoping in the final match of the season.  Mjallby finished 12th out of 16 teams with a dismal return of just one point in their last five matches seeing them slip down the table.  Henderson made 12 appearances and scored two goals, both coming last weekend in the 2-3 loss to eventual champions Elfsborg.

Thats the end of his contract. Will be interesting to see if he has been offered a new one bearing in mind his history with injuries

Auckland will rise once more

Be a huge gamble but if he stays fit I'd like to see what he'd offer the Nix.

Would be hugely annoyed if we signed him.

He comes with quite a good rep and all, but given his history of injuries, i'd wait a season or two longer to make sure he's really over it before even considering him.

I'd rather an injured Henderson than an injured Pantelis tbf

Agreed,

But i'd rather have neither and have a fit player.

Also, Pantelis when he came to us did not have an injury anywhere nears Henderson's and wouldn't have been seen as a gamble, Henderson at this stage still would be.

Pantelis had a long history of serious injuries, to the point that Adelaide (who knew him the best) and others didn't want to go anywhere near him. He was looking at careers outside of football when he got signed by the Phoenix. There were fears from some around the club even at the time that it was a massively risky move, but such were the times the club was in.

Football.
Mjällbys team building for the 2013 Premier Division continues. The 25-year-old New Zealander Craig Henderson has extended the contract by two years.

- It feels great that Craig has chosen to extend. This ensures continuity in the team and it is very important. I think 2013 will be a very good year for Craig, says the club's sporting director Thomas Andersson-Borstam to Mjällbys website.

Midfielder Henderson has had some injury-filled years in Mjallby, but could this year finally show up in the headlines. Twelve games could become, including eight from the start. His first goal in the yellow and black shirt came in Allsvenskans final stage, when Mjallby home fell against Elfsborg 2-3 despite Henderson's dual goals.

Craig Henderson has so far made his name mostly as a midfielder. Now he is playing as a forward

Markus Ekenberg's home in Blekinge, waiting for his other children to come into the world and Pär Ericsson waiting for surgery of the injured foot.

When choosing training duo Anders Torstensson and Lasse Jacobsson a little unexpected solution. Craig Henderson who normally plays midfielder starts as a striker.

- This is the last chance to test him in such a role before training games kick off, says Anders Torstensson.

The starting eleven against Hammarby Sunday 14:00 Swedish time:

                                     Mattias Asper
Daniel Ivanovski, Gbenga Arokoyo, Jasmin Sudic, Victor Agardius

Haris Radetinac, Kristian Haynes, Andreas Blomqvist, Daniel Nicklasson

                           Marcus Pode, Craig Henderson

State otherwise on Mjällbys training camp in Agia Napa, Cyprus:

It started well weather-wise, and this morning's workout was sunny and around 20 degrees.

The team practiced almost exclusively free kick and corner posts. There were a lot of beautiful goals but it was also a lot of high laughter when given chances were burned.

Both Marcus Pode and Daniel Nicklasson lay there for close combat. Pode flew into the goal while someone accidentally stepping on Nicklas's hand.

He had to leave the pitch with a swollen hand in bandages. However there was no more danger and he plays Sunday's practice match.

The afternoon was träningsfri and the players hung out in the hotel lobby while occasionally poured down rain outside. The wireless network is widely used for movies, web browsing and gaming.

As always played the card game "Penalty Cucumber". Penalty to date have included 200 meters "wheelbarrow".

Craig not in squad for first match of season, a home loss to Norrkoping on 1/4/13

On the bench for Monday night's game away against Djurgardens which was abandoned during the first half after crowd trouble involving fruit:

Djurgårdens IF vs. Mjällby AIF

The match on 8 April 2013 at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium, between Djurgårdens IF and Mjällby AIF was suspended after 37 minutes of play, after Mjällby had scored the first goal of the match. After the goal, several supporters started throwing items on the pitch. Mjällby defender Gbenga Arokoyo was hit in the stomach by a pear thrown by an unidentified supporter while celebrating Mjällby's goal. The match will likely be re-played at a future point, but no official decision has yet been taken regarding this match

came on up front as a sub, had a couple of chances but didn't convert. good 2-1 away win for them. First time i've watched the Swedish league and after that must say that the A-League seems a better quality of football.

Two games for Craig and Mjallby last week: Craig on as 81st min. sub in 1-0 home win v. Gefle on Friday 18

and a 76 min. sub in 2-0 away loss to Hacken on Sunday 21.

Mjallby sit ninth on table after four games (all others have played five games, except Djurgarden, where Mjallby's game was abandoned last month).

Craig played the full match in 4-2 home win over Brommapojkarna (cool name - but try fitting it on a shirt) on Sunday:

Mjallby move up to sixth on the table with a game in hand.

Agree. Craig's been playing enough in Sweden's top league to warrant a try-out in friendlies (All Whites scheduled for friendlies in August, September, October).

I note he was moved back into midfield for last weekends game - which is where he'd be more useful to the All Whites.

Geez, he's got to be a better bet than using Killen as a midfielder.

Henderson looks to be a midfielder who can tackle, distribute okay, get forward, score goals and is decent with headers...

I'm sure if he was playing in the A-League, he'd do well and Ricki would  notice him...

Not scheduled, but tentatively pencilled in. Which means we'll be lucky to have a game or two.

Was picked a couple of times, once in the year before the 2010 World Cup Finals and once in 2011 and both times he was injured.
However, Craig has been fit and available the whole time since his return to the Mjallby matchday squad on 7/08/12 v Orebro in the Swedish league. From then till the end of the last Swedish season on 5/11/12, Craig appeared in 12 of Mjallby's 13 remaining league games (8 starts, 4 times as a sub). He also appeared in one Swedish Cup game.
The current Swedish season started 2/04/13 and Craig has appeared in all but the first game of the season (one start, 3 substitute apps).
He played in Mjallby's sole Swedish Cup so far this season too.
Craig's Mjallby stats:
http://www.soccerway.com/players/craig-henderson/48607/
Since Henderson's return to playing on 7/08/12, the All Whites have played 7 games and he was fit and supposedly available to play in all of them...
Ricki said last weekend they are trying to arrange matches for the AW's in the international windows:

Ended up 4-1 to Mjallby over Syrianska, with Henderson subbed on 74 mins.

Good to see him opening his goal tally for the season.

Mjallby move up to 4th on the table.
