St. Pölten won 4-2. Still no Just

Do we know if he’s injured or not flavour of the month?

Injured it seems. Definitely not out of favour. He's had a good scoring season for them. 4 goals in 14 league games.

Parent club Horsens who are chasing promotion in Denmark (3rd in the 2nd tier), might have been tempted to recall him from his Austrian loan. But he's never seemed to enjoy his time with that Danish club, and they blocked his move to Sweden last year which made him grumpy.

His contract with Horsens runs through to June next year, so be interesting to see where next. This St Polten loan move always seemed a stop gap solution, waiting for something better to come along. Though they do have an option to buy.

A loan deal to the Nix or Auckland FC? Better than a middling Austrian 2nd tier team. Join up with Singh in Portugal?

Incidentally, he'll be without Marc Stendera for that, as he's suspended for a yellow card. Elijah Just's participation is also still questionable.

Yeah, I think AFC will likely try to improve on their attack next season and Just will be on their radar. Their defence and midfield are solid and attacking players appears an area which they should look to improve.

Will probably also have to make up a few points on attack that Paulsen has saved them this season on defence. That won’t be happening to the same level next year as Would or whoever else just won’t be up to the same quality.

Think they will look to change up both Mata and  Moreno. That will free up an import spot. They will however need a kiwi or an ausi to fill one of those spots. So think they will try for Just or Waine. Whichever one they get will determine the imports position.

My preference is they go for Just and try to get that gun number 9 import spot nailed.

My preference is that they don't sign either of them and that they sign a garbage import striker, but hey

Just returns. On at 62 mins (4-0) in a 4-1 win
04 May 01:27
St Polten won 4-2. Just off the bench at 68 mins (4-1).

St Polten (4th) can't be promoted, just playing for pride with 3 games left.

He only scores bangers

Who speaks Deustch? Did the commentator make a Maradona verus Ingerland comparison?

Little observation, not much celebrating from his team mates. I guess they know he's not hanging around.

He's too good for this league. Maybe some Austrian 1st tier teams are looking at him.

10 May 10:07
After he scores like that he didn’t get much love from his teammates! Would we take him at Wellington? Gotta see off Logan Rogerson’s challenge for his spot.

10 May 10:40 · edited 10 May 11:20 · History
Yeah who knows the Nix could offer him the central 10 spot, which maybe is where he'd love to play. Promise to take a game to the Ring of Dirt, so his family (if they still live there) can watch him up close through the wire mesh.

Longshot. But hey if by August it's looking like another 12 months in an Austrian pub league, surely the Nix wouldn't be a bad option.

I reckon if he was an Aussie, is a high chance that yes he's be looking to come to one of their 11 ALM clubs. Their clubs do for some reason get more locals back from overseas, when it's not working out there for someone.

I know it's all about the Weenix pathway these days, but struggling to think of many Kiwis who have come to the Nix, when it wasn't working out offshore (excl Aussie). Obviously a few in the start up season.

But since then - McGarry back from Holland. Elliot from Greece. Marinovic via MLS. Struggling to think of any others. Both Lewis & Payne settled back in local National League first after not succeeding up north. Nikko Boxall come & gone in the blink of an eye. I guess older bro Michael another, coming in from Vancouver Whitecaps

Niche Cache heard it as well.

You heard that too, right? Where the commentator (or voice-over bloke, technically, as this clip was from the aftermatch roundup rather than the live broadcast) compared this goal from Elijah Just to Diego Maradona against England in 1986? Good, just checking.

Now, that may have been a wild exaggeration... but this was still an unreal goal. He picked up that ball in the centre circle and then went crazy with it, beating three defenders on his way (not including the ones who stepped aside and let him run) before whipping in a lovely finish. Just has made a speciality of scoring curlers from outside the area in recent months but this was a very different type of wonderment.
17 May 00:42
If he ever gets time & space on that left foot, his placement is top drawer.

Hopefully some of the Rapid Wien first team scouts were watching.
Came off the bench at 59 mins to score the 2nd goal (66 mins) in a 3-1 win.

No that it matters much, as seems very little prospect Just would be recalled to Denmark, but his parent club Horsens will not be promoted back to the Danish Superliga. With 1 match left they will finish 3rd or 4th.

Eli's contract with Horsens expires June 30th next year.

Time for them to cash in on him.

Arguably his value will have gone up with his form this season - albeit it in a lower league it has been impressive.
18 May 23:18
Needs to go somewhere with a higher profile. The quality of the league looks okay from clips..   maybe a top Austrian club?

Last game. St Polten (3rd) travel to relegated Lafnitz (last). Best St Polten can hope to do is 3rd.

https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2025/05/25/austria/1-liga/sv-lafnitz/skn-sankt-polten/4386202/

What next after this for Just, with still one year left on his Horsens deal?

It won't happen but a dream scenario would be Des Bucks getting the Cardiff City job. Then recruiting Just, Singh, Garbett & Waine. With Cardiff being promoted to The Championship. Maybe throw in Tzanev, or a Paulsen loan deal.

aka mimicking Auckland and it's successful coming together of (fringe) AWs.

Starts and comes off at 68 mins with St Polten leading 2-1. Finishes 2-2. Just assist for the 2nd goal

SP who finished 4th do have an option to buy him from Horsens. But hopefully he has other higher level suitors

Imagine those fans from Cardiff.. get a new coach and he signs....

A dude from the 2nd division in portugal, another from the 2nd division in Austria and a guy that hardly scored in League 1!

Tongue and cheek, but they would probably fire him! haha

Yeah, the Canton stand would be apoplectic. Waine wouldn't start here though either, if we can keep Salech and Robinson (one will surely go I think). Decent number of wingers and 10s too, if anything we need defenders - get Nando over here!

Fantastic if true. 3rd in Serie B last season and have been in Serie A in recent years.

Vast upgrade on the league he is currently playing.

If it comes to fruition and he can nail his spot, a shoo in for the right side of the All Whites attack.

Good if true! Although I suspect this has come about from the multi club ownership deal which was in place, well until recently anyway - FC32 are owners of a small stable of clubs, including Spezia and more recently St Polten before that relationship appears to have broken down.

Digging a little deeper, it appears St Polten also have some money issues too which might preclude them making the deal for Just permanent - Around €250,000 to sign on from Denmark.

26 Jun 12:11
From Niche Cache.
€180,000 is a bit of coin. Rules out any Nix move you'd say, not that Just likely wants to leave Europe.

NÖN-PLUS: “Also still pending: Elijah Just's continued commitment. SKN has until June 30th to exercise the purchase option. The move is said to be for €180,000. However, the New Zealander would prefer a move away from St. Pölten. "We're still considering it. We still have a little time," [Sporting Director] Freitag explains.”

That’s where we’re at with Eli Just. He joined SKN on loan with an option to buy and we’re all waiting to see if they take that option or not. Based on that report, EJ would prefer that they didn’t after his excellent goal-filled campaign no doubt piqued some outside interest... but it’s not really in his hands right now. He still has one year left on his AC Horsens contract so they’re the ones who’ll benefit from any transfer fee.

Where it gets funky is that SKN were part of a multi-club investment collective called FC32, along with Cobh Ramblers FC (Ireland) and Spezia (Italy), but as of a couple of months ago that seems to have suddenly collapsed. The idea of FC32 (funded by American money but with an Australian bossman) is to take a more empowering approach to multi-club ownership whereby the clubs remain autonomous but FC32 injects some cash to help with debt, costs, and especially youth development, while creating a cross-national network of players.

To that note, there were some whispers a couple months ago about SKN passing Elijah Just along to Spezia in Serie B. But that was before FC32 abruptly withdrew its support for St. Pölten... potentially leaving them too broke to pursue the Elijah Just transfer. Strange happenings. With only a few days left until the deadline on that option, there should be further news soon.
26 Jun 21:42
Even if the loan club offers up the cash, Just has to agree to personal terms. So he could cause a breakdown there if he so wanted.
26 Jun 23:20
He’s not had a lot of luck with his transfer dealings in his career so far.

02 Jul 11:54
Niche Cache. Well he's not staying in the Austrian 2nd tier. We wait to see where he is going.

Nön.at: “Elijah Just bye, bye! The New Zealander is no longer an issue in autumn. St. Pölten had a purchase option – but this could not be managed after the FC32 exit. Also in view of the fact that Just sees himself at a higher division with a view to the 2026 World Cup. The New Zealand international is under contract with Danish club AC Horsens until next summer. Just scored six times in 19 second division games for the SKN.”

Well, there we go. Confirmation that SKN St. Pölten will not be picking up the buy-now option after Elijah Just’s loan deal ended.
