Care to elaborate on your comment JD? I'm sure its worth a discussion in some thread.

I’ve replied to JD’s Nix bypass comment in the ‘What’s wrong’ thread. Much bigger issue than young Collier.

Also, let's not forget that a lot of young Kiwis choose to go enter the USA College system as a development pathway which comes with the added bonus of getting a degree in case things don't work out.

I don't know the first thing about Collier and how he got to the MLS personally, but I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't even considered playing for the Nix in the first place (had an offer been there).

this is probably the wrong thread for this but are Singh, McGarrey etc in the first team squad doing degrees? Or if not could they do so if they chose?

I know Ridenton was studying but he went there after school and not moving schools. I have not heard that the two you mention are doing same. had heard they worked part time, but not first hand.

Collier gets a start for Chicago already!! Maybe they have injuries, but he’s obviously making an impression. Great stuff.

Lines up today against M Boxall and Minnesota. I’m sure Boxall can give some feedback next week to AWs coaching staff, on young Collier. Seems to have come a bit from nowhere in a rush.

Appreciate very very early days. But if we now have in Collier potential quality back up to Wood, that’s great news. Again early days.

And what do you know - he scores!

Makes it 1-1 in the 59th minute, however Chicago fall to a 2-1 defeat. Full 90 for him, pretty good as he was played out of position on the wing. Apparently Chicago played a second string squad today and fans aren’t too sure why - hopefully Collier’s proven a point here.

Also apparently Boxall had an amazing game

According to Stuff, Collier also MOM.

Great stuff

Never seen this guy play but understand he's a big guy - playing on the wing, does he have a bit of pace as well?

They only made a couple of changes, one because bastian schweinsteiger's wife Ana Ivanovic is due to give birth.

Has a passing resemblance for sure. His gangly arms and legs seemed to cause trouble in the Minnesota defence for his goal.

Must have some skill too, if played for the Futsal AWs?

Be interesting to know Michael Boxall’s thoughts after marking him for 90 mins. Promising stuff.

Besides Wood, he would be next on the list in terms of kiwi strikers playing in the toughest league - perhaps behind Boyd.

Very hard not to get excited about another young, big Kiwi number 9 showing promise. Makes you realise how far Australian and Kiwi football has to go in terms of support though. The standard of that match didn't really look any better than A-League level but the stadium was packed out and absolutely buzzing - and it was in fudgeing Minneapolis which has a much smaller population than Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide, and has to compete with the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL yet still Minnesota United still managed to have an average attendance of 20,000 last year in their maiden MLS season. We're light years behind

Yes one of the few American cities that has a team in all the big 4 sports stateside. Obviously a bit sports mad.

I love when I hear that Kiwis are sports mad too, because which country is it compared to? Granted, we place a huge importance on sporting success, but its all so serious and without any passion. To me Kiwi sports fans are typified by men who sit in silence watching sky sports, or feel annoyed when there's too much atmosphere at the stadium. Maybe it's starting to change, but we can't be too sports mad when on a whole we can't even be bothered to get out of the house and down to the stadium to watch a game (not of football, of anything really)

The Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area is 3.28 million. So only smaller than Sydney and Melbourne.

ahh, was strictly going off the Minneapolis population but the combined metro area makes more sense. I think my point still stands though given other factors

But one of the worst, and most extreme climates in the US. Hot and unpleasantly humid in summer with hordes of mosquitoes (all those lakes), and biting cold and snow and ice in winter. Maybe people who live there generate so much sporting passion to offset the rotten weather.

Big NZ matchup in Chicago!

Collier gets another start for the Fire (despite return of Bastian S), Gleeson and Tuiloma both starting for Portland.

Three Kiwis going at it. By my bad math, the number of Kiwis starting in this game is 2nd only to Americans. Good stuff

Our man has entered the game at 71 min. mark replacing Campos. Still 1-0 to Chicago (boy, embarrassing goalkeeper error for the goal in the first half - he kicked the ball straight out to a Fire player on the edge of the box)

A classic matchup Collier v Ibrahimović.

The young Kiwi gets another start as the Zlatan roadshow comes to Chicago. A first Galaxy start for the humble Swede.

Give his ponytail a yank Elliott.

Zlatan scores the winner as Galaxy prevail 1-0.

Collier good enough for Chicago to play 85 mins before being subbed.

Another start for Collier as Chicago visit NY Red Bulls

Chicago win 2-1. Collier subbed at 75 mins, when Fire were 2-0  up.

Anyone see the game?

Brief MLS highlights Collier lays on assist, that leads to penalty. Good stuff

Highlights are hard viewing though. Commentators are muy gringeworthy!

Collier played well enough against NYRB wasn't a standout but feeded Nikolić a few good balls (but he was offside). Was on Duke today and I think they're showing Chicago play next week so hopefully he starts again, seems to be trusted by the coach.

Starts against Toronto and is subbed after 67 mins.

Was 2-0 to Toronto at the time.

Finishes 2-2.

Collier continues to keep his starting spot as Chicago host Atlanta.

Probably ain’t going to happen, but be great to see him go to India with AWs. Hopefully AWs can secure some games later in the year, in FIFA windows.

Collier on the bench as Chicago host Montreal.

Didn't feature in MLS highlights of Atlanta v Chicago, but Collier failed to get on target an absolute gilt edged chance in that game. Video in Flying Kiwis this week. Bad miss.

Chicago win 1-0. Goal at late at 89 mins.

Collier subbed in 61 mins.
