Kicked the ball into his own face, balls rolls to a St Johnstone player, who scores. McGarry hauled off at halftime.

His. Own. Face.

Not great from Jimmy M, but it did come to him at an awkward height, and the preceding lazy giveway by a Dons player attempting some sort of backheel, was actually worse.

Wheels are falling off the Dons train.
They lose to Hibs 1-3 at home.

Mackenize was back, so McGarry rode the pine.

Hibs Aussies - Triantis (an assist) & Boyle (scored the 3rd goal plus 2 assists for the other 2 goals) both full games. Lewis Miller off the pine at 51 mins.

Aussie/Kiwi Jack Iredale also a full game for Hibs.

Jimmy M on the pine

Ediot - sadly it's all turning a bit shark now for the Dons. A 4-0 loss at Kilmarnock. McGarry stays on the bench.

Aberdeen 3rd, 1 point behind Rangers but the Glasgow club have 2 games in hand.

McGarry on at 79 mins (1-2) for Mackenzie as Dons season implosion reaches a new low with a 1-2 loss

4th consecutive SPL defeat

Our start was very much unexpected, overall were probably where we expected (taking the whole season so far into account). Just annoying we’ve had both extremes. Be interested to know what JMs future is, Mackenzie is likely to sign for the huns by the sounds of it (I’d freeze him out now), but I don’t think JM is where we need him to be defensively, which the coach has acknowledged, so we’ll need to get someone else in.

McGarry starts and plays a full game in a 0-0 draw. Mackenize injured?
Socceroos - Cam Devlin full game for Hearts, Rowles an unused sub.

Dons break their losing run, but still now winless in 11 SPL games.

Niche Cache.
Sounds like he played well on the weekend and may even yet end up first choice LB at the Dons next season if Mackenzie leaves. Jimmy M contracted until mid 2026.

Aberdeen have made a couple of winter transfers, one of which was the centre-back who conceded the pen... though Kristers Tobers otherwise played well on debut. The other debutant was left winger Jeppe Okkels who seemed to combine pretty neatly with JM on that left edge. Glad to see Jimmy McGarry still very much in the mix after they (Dons) targeted other areas for improvement.

McKenzie is nearing the end of his contract so McGarry’s also auditioning for a bigger role next season if they aren’t able to extend their main man

72 mins (1-0) in a 3-0 loss to Rangers, who score twice in added time.

Nice to see Jimmy M getting some mins in the SPL with Mackenzie (who may leave the Dons in the Euro summer) injured. Pity Aberdeen are going through a rough patch.

Niche Cache. Dons have made some new signings

McGarry played 72 minutes before being subbed off so he wasn’t even on the pitch when those last two concessions happened. Alexander Jensen replaced him, a Danish fullback (mostly a right-back but obviously he can play on the left as well) who was signed from IF Brommapojkarna in Sweden earlier this month.

One of a handful of new additions – probably in part to combat the expected exits when contracts expire in July, one of those expected exits appears to be MacKenzie. Jensen then played ninety minutes at left-back in the 3-0 Scottish Cup win away to lower league Elgin City (McGarry was an unused sub) so it might be that JM’s already getting a sneak preview of next season’s dynamic... but we shall wait and see.

I'd say it's likely that Jensen will replace McGarry as Left Back. Seems to have a bit more of an all round game (defensive and confidence to go forward) than McGarry does currently. I'm hoping he's still here next season, but i'm really not sure. MacKenzie is hopefully off this window as he's been linked with Wednesday.

No McGarry, as Dons continue their poor form with a 0-3 loss.

New signing Jensen at LB, Mackenize an unused sub on th bench - a sign he is soon leaving?

No, actual Greece apparently.
Jimmy just killing time before coming back to NZ to captain new ALM franchise the South Island Keas!!

Kallithea are 2nd last in the Greek Super League

New Zealand international defender James McGarry could soon be on his way to Greece after reports he’s the target of a transfer bid to lure him from Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen.

Greek Super League club Kallithea are reportedly trying to sign the left back in a bid to help stave off relegation.

Former Wellington Phoenix player McGarry (26) has 18 months left on his contract at Aberdeen but has fallen down the pecking order for a starting spot after the signing of Alexander Jensen from Swedish Allsvenskan club Brommapojkarna for £545,000 (NZ$1.2 million) in the January window.

Kallithea are said to be keen on a transfer or at least to loan the New Zealander.

So this is actually a good thing for Mcgarry right? The Greek super league is rated 2 places higher then the Scottish premier league in world rankings (unless I found a old table ranking) so if he starts getting game time he would of fallen up, and if he’s playing regularly and we qualify he would definitely be knocking someone out of the squad

The backup LB spot in the AWs, behind Libby is a crowded space.

De Vries, Willkins, Sutton, McGarry, even LKH who was called up by Bazeley last March in Egypt. Plus Niko Kirwan has been playing a bit on the left flank in Serie C.

I'd probaly rate them in that above order for the moment. But yeah if Jimmy M is playing regularly in Greece, rather than splinters in the SPL that can only help his chances.

I think though he will always be considered a bit suspect defensively, and Baze & co would need to see some improvement in that space to pick him. They do love a 0-0 draw in Greek football!

Agreed left back and center back we do have a glut of players, and something about McGarry is despite being a good player, seems no matter where he goes he’s always second fiddle, can’t seem to make that left back spot his

Kallithea, as the people said, are battling to avoid relegation. They are second to last right now with 15 points from 20 games. Only got promoted back to the top flight last year and they’re in danger of that trip being a one-and-done affair. What’s more, their Czech left-back Matej Hanousek recently gapped it for Gençlerbirliği in Turkey so they need to replace him. Well, here it goes. McGarry has 18 months left on his Aberdeen deal so it’s expected this’ll be a loan with an option to buy. Seems like a decent move if they’re going to give him good minutes (although he has proven injury-prone during his time in Scotland). We’ll find out if/when the deal gets announced.

By the way, it was Kallithea that Marko Stamenic’s Olympiacos beat in the Greek Cup round of sixteen back in December. Unfortunately, they’ve already met twice in the league so there’ll be no Stamenic vs McGarry meeting, given that they’ll be on opposite sides when the championship/relegation rounds begin.

Confirmed as gone now. Hope it works out for him.

Hope he gets a coach who can play him a bit further up, and have some defensive cover behind him like Montgomery did. That seemed to be a real sweet spot for him both defending high, shooting from distance and creating.

And as someone said, he’s 26 and moving to Athens! Certainly getting the football OE with Holland, Scotland and now Greece.

His first start in Greece and a full game in a valuable 2-1 road win. Part of a back 4

Edit - 4 more games before the league splits into Championship and Relegation Rounds.
