Urrgggh. Herdman sent off (straight red) late in 1st half at 45 + 4 mins. DOGSO?
Cavs keeper saves resultant pen at 45 + 6 mins.

But the Mexicans have now scored early 2nd half, to lock the tie up at 2-2.
Odds on they go on to win from here.

Edit - still 1-0 (2-2 on agg) at 70 mins. Daly on at 56 mins.
Edit 2 - Pumas get the 2nd goal they wanted, to lead the tie 3-2.

Got the slightest touch of the studs on the ball as he went to clear it, but followed through and caught the other guy flush on the calf. Can't complain too much I don't think. Terribly rotten luck for the lad though.

Pumas win 2-0 (3-2 on agg). So brave Cavalry knocked out. What could have been if Jay wasn't sent off.

CPL doesn't start until early April. Canada needs to thaw out a bit more.

The only other Kiwi after Herdman who maybe involved in the CONCACAF CL is Finn Linder, who was mostly with Vancouver Whitecaps II last year with Herdman.

Vancouver's MLS team have drawn Deportivo Saprissa from Costa Rica.
Ex Nixer Youstin Salas has been loaned out again by Saprissa. This time to fellow CR club Sporting San José.

Canadian Championship, Preliminary Round.
Cavalry host Edmonton Scottish from semi pro Alberta League.

Herdman good enough for the ALM? Possible AM recruit for the Nix?
You don't make the AWs from the Canadian league. Played with Conchie, LKH, Hughes etc with U20s/Oly Whites.

Herdman off at HT (1-0) in a 4-0 win.

May have been a tactical switch, Cavalry having to make a sub earlier in the 34th min, and then two HT changes.

Though Musse who replaced Herdman at HT is the Cavs gun player. He had one of the 4 goals plus an assist, and is in the Somalia national team. He scored/created alot of goals together with Myer Bevan, when Bevan was at the club.

He's not really setting the CPL on fire is he? Would he be worth a look by the Nix? It would help his case to push for an AW spot for the WC

Yes worth consideration. When either Rojas or Chico were injured this season (so about 90% of the campaign!), there was just no backup to fill in as that creative AM.

Really feel that Chiefy/Gill need to find some sort of local backup, to whatever visa 10 they bring in. Sure someone like Herdman would likely be a big step down from say another Geraldes - but got to have some sort of alternative AM to try plug that gap in need.

Jay H would know alot of the younger players from the 2023 U20 WC, plus last year's Olympics.

By way of some rough comparison of where the CPL maybe at. Herdman off at HT, and on at HT for Cavalry, Aussie midfielder Jesse Daley who played 47 ALM games (22 starts) for the Roar.

Would he contemplate a trial here in Welly? More importantly, would we?

I think we really need to maximise how we can put people on Bazely's radar, especially given it's WC year! I'd hope to see a few fringe AWs lining up to talk to Chiefy...

Nix need a visa AM, plus a local player able to do an okay job there if that visa player is shark or injured. Herdman is probably as good as the Nix could attract as a Kiwi player to fulfil that spot. ADJ maybe another. Jay H will know alot of the Nix guys at the last U20 WC plus 2024 Olympics. Conchie, LKH, Hughes, Sheridan etc.

Rojas was injured basically all season, and the football was pretty awful. Chico comes in and is green shoots the football is improving. He gets injured and it reverts back to mud.

Loan spell to the Nix after the CPL season is over?

Jeremy Brockie in reverse.

Has some merit. Herdman has played with the likes of Hughes, LKH, Sheridan and Conchie at the 2023 U20 WC and 2024 Olympics. He'd fit in better than most coming in late, without a proper ALM pre season you'd hope.

Though he's not really standing out yet this season in the CPL for Cavalry.

Herdman on the pine as Cavalry host fellow CPL side Vancouver FC in Canadian Championship quarters.

Edit - Herdman an unused sub as it finishes 1-1 in NT and straight to pens. Cavalry have already made 5 subs.

Edit 2 - Cavalry lose the pen shootout 4-5. Back to focussing on the CPL.
