3 cleared off the line, TFC very lucky to be 1-0 ahead at HT.

Brockie playing wide in a 4-5-1 but hardly getting many touches. TFC are sitting back and trying to hit on the counter. Loads of long ball.

TFC are playing pretty horrid - Brockie has barely touched it. NE have been impressive, though.

Can't believe some of these TFC players get payed for playing football to be honest... but credit to them, they're leading so far

Ugly game, horrible for the neutral but a massive 3 points for TFC, as they hold on for a 1-0 win away at New England.

Is it a massive 3 points, though? Can they realistically make finals? They're still playing terrible football.

They need wins for confidence - they have quite a few talented guys but have lost sooo many games in the final ten that these wins are gonna be amazing for the team spirit

Play offs are unrealistic but still you wanna pick up the wins for your fans. But yeah, I probably used the wrong word to describe it.

As a coach is Ryan just another Herbert?(without the coaching qualifications). Both big on team spirit, unity, fighting it out, gritty, hard to break down, backs to the wall football with quite a bit of longball thrown in. I have watched quite a few MLS games this season and without a doubt the ugliest team is Toronto. Quite a few other teams like Montreal  etc play some really nice football. I would hate to be a Toronto fan...years of bad results(there last home win was the first for a year) and lots of ugly football.

You want to support Ryan 100% but has he bitten off more than he can chew here?. He keeps talking about  the club needing more quality players but at some point they need to be coached. Sometimes when you watch Toronto it just looks like lots of the players don't know what the game plan is.....apart from grinding it out. Saying that I hope that Ryan stays for another year so he has a proper shot at pulling the team together.

I've not really watched any of Brockies games, so has he been a success or a flop whilst on this loan?

Permalink Permalink

Neither really - pretty middling, Toronto fans are reasonably happy with him but hasn't set the world on fire.

If so, then the fact that he "really" coached the All Whites at the 2010 World Cup was a bit of a waste of time.

Ryan's lads: 1   AS Roma: 4    in yesterday's friendly.

I was busy and couldn't watch it but the game was live on AS Roma's You Tube channel -

and you can see the whole game uploaded there now (Italian commentary):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XHFMucGDXg

Brockie on as 46 min. sub and subbed-off on 82 min.

But didn't attract the same attention as the legendary Francesco Totti coming on as a sub for Roma in the second half (71 min.).

Roma scored all the goals, including Toronto's.

All the goals here: http://www.torontofc.ca/video/2013/08/07/kia-game-six-minutes-tor-v-asr-august-7-2013

Capacity crowd at BMO field.

Ryan had his priorities right, skipping the game and earning fan respect for his hard work:

#TorontoFC says manager Ryan Nelsen is not at Roma match. He's on the road, working ahead of transfer window closing."

11:59 AM - 8 Aug 2013

Scorers: 16' (og.) Burdisso, 25' Florenzi, 33' Borriello,  67' Pjanic, 87'  Pjanic

AS ROMA (4-3-3): De Sanctis (46' Lobont); Maicon (62' Romagnoli), Burdisso, Jedvaj (79' Torosidis), Dodò; Bradley (88' Verre), Taddei (76' Strootman), Florenzi (71' Totti); Lamela (76' Tallo), Borriello, Marquinho (24' Pjanic)
Coach: R. Garcia

TORONTO FC: Frei (76' Roberts); Eckersley (46' Morgan), Caldwell (46' Henry), Agbossoumonde (65' Thomas), Elmer (46' Bloom); Rey (39' Russel), Laba (Hall), Osorio (46' Bekker), Convey (46' Lambe, 76' Rictcher); Earnshaw (46' Wiedeman), Braun (46' Brockie, 82' Welshmann)
Coach: R. Nelsen [but skipped the game to scout players]

Im watching on Tab Watch & Bet, but try http://www.sportlemon.tv/ or http://www.vipbox.tv/

Seattle makes it 2-0 with an own goal. TFC have been playing well but not doing anything with their possession and Seattle's made them pay with a couple goals against the run of play.

TFC 0 - Seattle 2 at HT. Brockie has had a couple of shots at goal but hasn't tested the keeper. Some good link up play and very busy on defence.

Toronto seem like one of the few teams on earth that are more infuriating to support than the Phoenix.

Last home appearance but two more away games apparently.

Update on Brockie in today's interviews with TFC: he'll be playing two more games with TFC. One, next Saturday (Aug 17th) vs Columbus, and one on the following Saturday vs DC United.  Hopefully he'll end his time with TFC on a high note ie, two wins.

He did say that there's talk of him returning down the line. Doesn't sound like it will be for a while though.

TFC have finally got long term target Max Urruti on board it seems, just in time to fill the gap left by Brockie. I would put money on Brockie being a TFC player full time next season, with us getting a decent transfer fee hopefully.

Unless TFC management does what they've done so many times before: fire the coach AGAIN and re-build the team from scratch next season.  I'd say it's unlikely, but with a track record of 8 coaches in 7 seasons, who knows.... But, ya, if Ryan Nelsen is still Head Coach next season, I would imagine TFC would try and get Brockie back.

They've got similar salary cap restrictions to us with transfer fees coming under the cap? I would guess any fee would be 20k, or more likely, less.

They have 'allocation money' from the MLS which discounts against stuff like that. When TFC traded away Silva they picked up some more allocation money in return. I would think they have enough available to pay a reasonable fee for him.
