Bell a full game and Daggers off the pine in a 1-1 draw. Unfortunately that means Viking finish 3rd, so not in the UCL qualifying spots.

They will go into the UEFA Conference League Qualifiers next year.

Bodø / Glimt league winners again.

Bell played 29 of 30 league games. Missed one when at the Olympics.
Zero goals. He's now 25 and maybe this is his level? Which if so would be disappointing given the big wraps on him as a youngster.

Unlikely a Championship club will be looking at him, given his move to Denmark was a bit of a failure. Maybe Des B at Oxford.

Still good enough to make AWs squads, but no longer a locked in starter.

Though Rufer at 28, is undoubtedly a better player than he was at 25, so who knows.

It's been said that he was one of the best players in Norway this season - he's probably just as good, if not better, than he was when he first left for Denmark (form inclusive). Possibly more of a system player than we realise? I admittedly haven't seen much of him this season, but I wonder if he'd be able to replicate this form at a decent Championship club with a similar setup. Des would certainly know how to use him

Des coached him almost 10 years ago - if he's coaching the same player now, then I would be disappointed in Bell in terms of development.

Des should not his character, but as a player... I have my doubts.

5 years ago. Des would have definitely kept monitoring the individual progress of the players from that 2019 U20 team.

Not saying it's going to happen at all, but Bell is one he would have thought about a bit.

Bodo doing okay in the Europa league. Ahead of some decent clubs.

Makes me think this league is actually a bit better than we give it credit for...

Daggers would be a starter here too.

Really I can’t see what he brings to the All Whites and I think he is well below championship standard.

He has an engine and gets around. Also seems a nice guy to have in the team and probably has some leadership skills.

but his distribution is terrible, always back or sidewise at best.

Physically he never seems to impose himself at the base of midfield.

Honestly couldn’t see him making either of NZ A league starting teams.

Conceded the pen on the weekend, that cost Viking in their big chance of finishing 2nd, and making the UCL qualifiers.

Niche Cache.

Joe Bell gave away a penalty from which Niklas Castro place the ball into the bottom corner for 1-1. There wasn’t much in the foul. Bell was a touch hesitant to close down his man and left a foot planted. Sneaky clip of the shins. A gentle foul but a foul nonetheless.

Been saying this for the last couple of international windows. He peaked two seasons ago for the AW's and since then has done very little in a white shirt.

I disagree. He'd dominate in the A-League. He's very consistent and reliable.

Against top international opposition our Midfield often gets over-run and I feel that makes him look bad - a scape goat.

I think against top teams we need to run with Rufer, Stamenić and Bell. Otherwise we just won't see enough of the ball.

It worked well against the USA. Stamenic playing a bit further forward at times for Olympiakos this season (if not really successfully) useful for the AWs in the longer term

You're right, he'd probably do ok in the aleague, but that's a totally different level to internationals. Bell weakens our midfield significantly. If we are gonna run the
4-5-1 system regularly then Stamenic and Rufer are your deeper mids with Garbett, Singh and Just as the attacking mids. Plenty of other options as replacements before I'd even consider Bell anywhere in that 5; Rogerson, McCowatt, Rojas, Barbarousos,

I see his value has jumped up to $2m euro on transfermarket. There must be some evidence out there that he's had a great season.
18 Dec 21:48
Would take anything on that website with a grain of salt.

looking at AFC, Nando is 150k, while the tall ginger guy who started his first game on the weekend is 325k

He's had a VERY good domestic season by all accounts! One of the best midfielders in the league - have read some in Norway saying he's been better than Patrick Berg (valued at 5 million euro for reference)

Joe showed up to an international window looking fairly unfit and out of form when he was at Brondby but he has looked solid in recent windows. I think he & Rufer should always form the base of our midfield. If anything I'd say Stamenic is wildly overrated by NZ fans and it is harder to justify his position in our lineup

I've said it before, we need all 3 in our best lineup. Stamz is awesome - solid as.

Bell is human... and like every player he will have ups and Downs in form.

By historical standards he is a very good NZ player.

some stats there arent exactly flash.
5 assists - wow! lol.
45% passing accuracy, so over half the time he passes to the opposition?
defensively he seems ok in this league - I have questions about how "good" it actually is if stats like that are celebrated.

Think it’s crossing accuracy and not passing accuracy to be fair.

I can’t however ever recall Bell crossing for the All Whites

Think this league is likely league one quality

Yes crossing not passing

Does taking corners count for crossing?  if they do…he used to be one of main corner takers…even scored off one!  but regular play crosses…nope.  Me neither…he’s positioned too far back for that I assume…

I liked him during our past international window.  Moved around well.  Some really nice touches and passes…

Bell off at 88 mins (3-1) in a 3-1 loss to start Viking's season.
Viking with their LB sent off at 57 mins, when down 1-0.

No doubt will be in for some ribbing from his team mates, closer to the AWs v Norway game in October.

06 Apr 21:34
Full game Bell in a 3-1 win
Daggers 30 mins off the pine

Stensness still recovering from his 2nd ACL injury
10 Apr 21:21 · edited 10 Apr 21:22 · History
Bell on fire. Scores Viking’s first goal and then the assist for their 2nd in a 3-1 win. Full game

Daggers on at HT with Viking down 0-1, and the assist for Viking’s 3rd. But only on to 78 mins (3-1) and then off again
10 Apr 23:57
Bell's first goal in a club league game in either Norway or Denmark since August 2021! Probably scored a few cup goals for either Viking or Brøndby over that time.

But understandable may not have been marking him that much at corner kicks. Cost them.
14 Apr 00:36
Viking canter to a 6-0 win.

Via Niche Cache. Would be quite a multilingual AWs squad these days.

German, Serbian, Norwegian, Italian speakers. Presumably McCowatt and Just have some reasonable Danish. Thomas returns with his Dutch.

Tuiloma is on the outer, but Old may soon be a Francophile. Garbett may speak it a bit as well (French mum).

If Rojas ever came back in you would have some Spanish. All that time in the Latino heavy MLS, Boxall probably has some level of Espanol. Missed anyone?
FDV some Swedish?

21 Apr 23:41
Full game and the early assist (2 mins) in a 5-2 win. Viking up 5-0 until 68 mins.
No Daggers.

22 Apr 11:19
Niche Cache. Interesting stat, and hopefully good news for the AWs.
I remember it was a criticism of Bell's play at Brondby in Denmark - him not offering enough in an attacking sense.

As has been pointed out elsewhere, this was the second consecutive game in which Bell had the most dribbles of anyone on the pitch. He’s definitely taking more responsibility upon himself to advance the ball rather than just knocking it around and holding his position. Although he also completed 70/75 passes in this game so the knocking it around stuff is also going well.
