No idea why but I suddenly started wondered how George Ott was getting on in the Vic NPL. Seems to be on a run of goals right now, 5 in his last 7 games & forced himself into a starting role https://websites.mygameday.app/team_info.cgi?action=PSTATS&pID=209594960&client=0-10178-151208-634000-20439433

Nice solo goal. Worth a relook at by the Nix?
Would he pose a bigger goal threat, next season than 18 yr Luke Supyk?
Supyk 4 goals in 6 Central League games this season.

22 yr old Ott is 1.91m. So potential handy large frame with Zawada gone. Of course not saying he's anywhere Zawada's ability, but Nix need a big man they can bring off the pine for a plan B.

Ott 6 goals in his last 8 NPL games. Though yes none in his first 9 games.
Avondale 2nd on the VIC NPL ladder. Got 2 brief appearances for the Nix in the 21/22 season, when the team were based in Australia.

Just turned 17 year old NZ born CB Ricky Fransen is starting in the NPL top of the table clash between Rockdale and WSW (u23) tonight (5pm kick off time).

One potentially for the future.

6ft 4 - big lad. Has also played DM on occassion, so quite mobile despite his size and is a very good 800m runner, so has some wheels as well.

Kiwis to the fore - Ryan Feutz and Seth Clark combining to put Edgeworth Eagles through to the round of 32 in the Australian Cup.

Seth Clark - 7 goals in 14 games across both Aus Cup & NNSW NPL action this season.

Ryan Feutz with 9 goals in 5 games since joining the side within the past month or so.

Emlyn Wellsmore played a full 90 minutes for the Oakleigh Cannons in their Australia Cup win against George Ott’s Avondale FC on Tuesday night.

Avondale took an early lead with a long range strike by Cian Cuba before Oakleigh brought the game back to parity with a goal from englishman Joe Guest. Oakleigh went on to score two more goals to make it 3-1.

Oakleigh now face Sydney FC in the round of 32.

15 y/o Joey Banza - born in 2009 - just made his full men’s NPL debut for WSW against Sydney FC, a week after scoring his first goal at U20 level.

Australia born and bred, and also eligible for Madagascar and DR Congo, but from what I understand he is also eligible for New Zealand and included in a preliminary player pool for the OFC U-16 Championship.

Extremely highly regarded in the WSW setup, and would be a huge coup if he does commit to us

Another Kiwi in an NPL final.

Ryan Feutz with a brilliant season (19 games, 31 goals across all competitions) after joining Edgeworth Eagles from Northern League side Eastern Suburbs part way through the NNSW NPL campaign.

Seth Clark (also at Edgeworth) has also had an extremely strong season after coming out of the US college system (27 games, 11 goals in all competitions)

Pretty good night for Seth Clark at the Van Egmond Jennings Awards
  • Northern NSW NPL team of the year (alongside Ryan Feutz)
  • Players Player of the year
  • Graham Jennings Medal winner / Player of the Year.

"I want to play A-League and I think it's a pretty realistic goal, but I'm just taking it step by step,"

"I've set myself some targets so hopefully I can move to the next level, whether that A-League or B-League, but I definitely have ambitions to keep pushing while I can."

Good stuff, from memory was a bit of a standout as a teenager with Canty United in the old Handy Prem?? Then went to a US College.

Nice to see he still has pro/A League ambitions

Jets have 4 visa slots free & they are right on their doorstep, hopefully they can get looked at.

Old mate Jeremy Brockie was playing for Edgeworth as recently as 2022, and may still be living around the Newcastle area with his Aussie wife and kids. Might be able to help out a few fellow Kiwis with some player agent contacts etc.

Andre De Jong went from the NSW NPL league to South Africa, they should ask Brocks what contacts he has over there.

They were flying in Brocks from Townsville for matches iirc.

Campbell Strong apparently off to Oakleigh Cannons for 2025.

Seth Clarke also sounds like he's moving from Edgeworth Eagles to Sydney Olympic as well. Although I'm still waiting on 100% confirmation on this.

Probably not going to have much luck if you're a goalkeeper looking to try ply your trade in the lower tiers of Aussie for 2025 onwards. Goalkeepers will need to be Aussie citizens or permanent residents in order to take the field from next year - The following image is a screenshot of the rules and regulation changes for next season from Victorian Football, although I understand this set of rules is likely to be rolled out across pretty much all state leagues in Australia.

Good move for Seth Clark, sounds like he had a standout season with Edgeworth Eagles. I read in this thread somewhere he has ambitions to try get an ALM gig.

New NPL VIC season underway over the weekend...
From what I can find on Football Victoria's gameday app, here are the kiwis that were in squads over round 1:
Oakleigh Cannons: Kingsley Sinclair, Campbell Strong
Avondale FC: Dan Edwards, George Ott, Emlyn Wellsmore
Green Gully SC: Deklan Wynne

Andrew Withers will be impacted by the new rule stated above.
Taylor Schrijvers does not look to be on the Green Gully squad list.

Cannot quite fathom why a rule requiring keepers to be aussie. A dire shortage of quality keepers in the aussie game, first stage of an aussie only league....?

Don't have the exact leagues from Europe off the top of my head, but there are several leagues that have a very similar rule. Pretty sure a few more in Asia as well.

Yeah it's not a revolutionary thing as far as I'm concerned, but there are places dotted around that have that rule to play only domestic keepers. I don't think I've seen any relating to specific positions otherwise. Have no clue as to why it's mostly just keepers to be honest, but I'll look it up when I get some free time.

To be fair it's not usually the highest levels of play either.

Bit of a shame really as there has been a few keepers from here to play NPL level stuff over the past couple of years - Nicholas Burke (Fencibles) & Joe Knowles (Auckland FC) spring to mind, alongside the previously mentioned Keegan Smith.

If you have been resident in Australia for 3 of the last 4 years, there is now a pretty straightfoward application pathway to Aus citizenship for Kiwis.

https://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news/new-player-roster-principles-be-introduced-npl-senior-mens-competitions

Visa Players
| Player Rosters will have a 2+1 Visa Player limit, comprising of two (2) players from any Confederation and one (1) from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) or Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) on their NPL First Team Player Roster at any one time.
*
An AFC/OFC Visa Player is any player who is not an Australian player and who holds a citizenship from an AFC or OFC Member Association nation.

Goalkeepers | Goalkeepers who are not classified as an Australian Player will not be permitted on an NPL First Team Player Roster.

In aligning this Strategy and the implementation of a functioning DTS, along with the new PRP in 2026, this will support the following key areas by:

  • Connecting the professional football pyramid through consistent principles that are adopted to the relevant competition.
  • Maintaining incentives for Australian clubs who retain, train, and develop youth players within the one club structure and ensure NPL Men's First Team Match Day Rosters promote match minutes for these players.
  • Encouraging long term professional contracts along with the ability to loan players between professional clubs to provide greater opportunities for players to increase match minutes whilst staying within professional competitions across Australia.
  • Encouraging collaboration with neighbouring Member Associations and relevant Confederations through providing one (1) increased opportunity for a Visa Player from the AFC or OFC to form part of an NPL Men's First Team Player Roster.
  • Promoting the development of Australian Goalkeepers.

As a young NPL outfield player, you will obviously get opportunities to come off the bench during a season. Also outfield players get injured more than keepers so again opportunities.

But yeah a young keeper could sit on the pine for many seasons without getting a game. Understand the rationale

would be strange to use an import spot for a foreign keeper who spends their time sitting on the benc......oh, um, er.....gosh, um, isn't it a nice sunny day

George Ott with a stunner on the turn 🎯

Second goal of the season for Ott as he helps his side to a 4-1 win over Melbourne Victory II in the Victorian NPL. Ott with the assist for his sides second goal as well.

Avondale flying high with four wins from four to start the season.

Repost of a repost, noting the 19 goals in 55 NPL games stat.

Ott is 23, Luke Supyk only 19 (well will be in 2 days). But you do wonder if for now an Ott would offer more off the pine.

Yeah there's about 3 websites I had to use to track down those stats - Each was missing various details of some sort from each season. 😅

He's definitely matured as a player, and finds himself playing more or less, week-in-week-out for one of the stronger NPL Victoria clubs at Avondale. They'll also be competing in the first ever edition of the Australian Championship later this year as one of the eight foundation clubs.

Seth Clark (age 24) TOTW honours NSW NPL. Apparently he has ALM ambitions. Kiwis can now apply for Aus PR/Citizenship after being in the parched land 4 years. He must have been in Aussie about 2 years.

Midfielder Clark previously a standout with Edgeworth Eagles in Nth NSW NPL.

He's at Sydney Olympic with Zac Zoricich. Clark 7 goals in 16 games for Olympic this season. Olympic 11th of 16 teams.

Think it was RR who said you'd think he'd be on the radar of a low budget club like the Jets, even as a visa player for now.
