I don't know if that's the case, a lot of people from Brisbane move to Melbourne.

We seriously looked at moving to Russia a few years ago, it's an amazing place where you see a mishmash of the best and worst in the world. It's also a place where money talks and it's very glamorous if you're on football player wages, the excesses there are crazy.

Greece is also a great place, maybe not so much for the Greeks at the moment but once again if you're on football player money it can offer a lot more than Wellington for that high class/glamourous sort of lifestyle.

Kosta could have been earning a million bucks at the Phoenix but there are very few places in Wellington where that sort of money means anything special. This is if we're speculating that the reason for Kostas leaving is the same reason that we speculated caused Smeltz to leave the first time.

Obviously some here are much wiser in the ways of international football than I am, but if Welnix had said "we've got you under contract for another year and you're not going anywhere", surely they couldn't force him to actually play or put any effort into it? At worse they could have forced him not to play for anyone else for a year, but still have to pay his wages, which wouldn't have made anyone happier.

Only when the player is immediately put on a transfer list and other clubs pay for him.

Who is going to pay a transfer fee for Kosta? It can't be another A League club because there's no fees between them, so who is going to pay a transfer fee for an import winger who just had a mediocre season when there's heaps of equivalent players off contract in Europe? Even if we got a small fee from a European club he wouldn't be able to leave until July when the UEFA window opens, so we would pay an extra month of salary while we waited, which would probably be as much as or more than any fee we could get for him.

Lets hope Rogerson can get a bigger chance because of this, he deserves it.

Will be moved when confirmed he is with an overseas club. Jets, Victory and WSW have all been interested apparently.

If he is confirmed so quickly to the Victory then hard questions need to be asked of Kosta.

It's been rumoured online since the 25th of May that Kosta was returning to the Victory. Kosta must have been in talks with other clubs since at least then which is clearly in violation of the A-League rules around talking to a contracted player. Dome also said that no other club is involved and he has no idea where Kosta will end up so someone isn't being entirely truethfull.

It strikes me that this is pretty much the same way that we got WeeMac, he was contracted to CCM (although he hadn't played there for a season) but wanted to move here, CCM didn't want to release him but eventually had to.

Difference was that there was a dispute whether a valid contract actually existed.  They transferred the club to a new entity and from memory McGlinchey never signed anything to enact his transfer, so the entity McGlinchey was contracted to either no longer existed, or did not hold the A-league licence. 

That was a massive technicality which we exploited.  

This "personal problems" is transparently rubbish, he's obviously not happy and wanted out

To be devil's advocate, they did say the reasons were not football related. So unless he was being bullied or picked on in the changing room (unlikely I would say!), those reasons seem to be related to football - at least until we hear otherwise.

Very disappointed personally - at least we should have got something in return for letting him go (good yoof on loan or something?) - but alas they let him go so that is that. I am moving on.
