The Whitecaps announced Tuesday the signings of goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre, defender Bilal Duckett and defender/midfielder Jeb Brovsky. All three are U.S.-born players.

Brovsky and Duckett are both 22-year-old Notre Dame University players taken

19th and 37th, respectively, by Vancouver in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. Sylvestre, 18, becomes the club's third homegrown player signing after Philippe Davies and Nizar Khalfan. He joined the Caps' residency program more than a year ago.

Defender Michael Boxall and midfielder Russell Teibert are also expected to sign contracts soon.

Boxall, 22, joined Whitecaps FC after being the top pick in the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft on January 18. The native of Auckland, New Zealand, enjoyed four seasons in NCAA Division I with the University of California, Santa Barbara. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defender started 75 of his 78 appearances for the Gauchos, scoring one goal and adding five assists. Boxall has also represented New Zealand at the U-20, U-23, and senior international levels, with the defender earning a recent call-up to the full All Whites squad. He made two appearances for New Zealand 'A' during the 2006 Agribank Cup in Vietnam and two starts for New Zealand U-23's during the 2008 Men's Olympic Football Tournament in Beijing, China. Boxall also made three starts for the All Whites during the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.

"I'm very excited to put pen to paper with the club, as it's been a very good preseason for me," said Boxall. "Even getting to know the supporters of the club at the Cascadia Summit was a great experience. I hope to continue developing from my time in college and make a contribution to the Whitecaps." <> /* story footer */ .comments { border: 1px solid #000000; margin-top: 50px; width: 455px; } .h2 {margin-bottom:0px; padding: 0px; background-color: #000000; font-size: 11px;margin: 0px; padding-left:45px;padding-top:5px;font-weight: bold; background-repeat:no-repeat;height:22px;color: #ffffff;} .comments a {font-weight: normal; color:#0033cc;} .comments p {padding: 5px; } /* story footer */

No actually he played because the first choice CB was injured

Whitecaps' centre back Greg Janicki has been training with a tight calf this week and could give way to supplemental draft pick Michael Boxall in the starting lineup.

Why do you say "no" ? No one was stating that we will be a regular. For a young guy in his debut season getting game time, even off the bench would be successful.

Sorry but sometimes when I answer a thread I don't read my response so the no was unnecessary:) Btw english is only my fourth language so sometimes there will be mistakes on my posts

I've just been in vancouver and the Whitecaps are very big news over there (well comparitively - hockey completely dominates so if you can get a few pages worth you're doing well, and their result against Toronto was front page news on the local tabloid). There were ads for the team all round town and they generated a great atmosphere at their first game. They hav a cool 20k seat stadium, full artificial - and they all went pretty mental after beating toronto first up. Both teams were a bit shaky at the back, but vancouver took their chances better in general, Boxall is massive!

Normo's coming home

Vancouver have signed Mouloud Akloul, another centreback. Not surprised, would've happened earlier were it not for his injury. Bit more competition for Boxall.

Played in a 3-3 draw with Kansas.  They were 3-0 down with 20 to play, and 3-1 down in injury time.

Just had a look at the highlights and it seems others were at fault for the goals.

You using Ontario time? Match is in half an hour, that's 1900 Vancouver time. Boxall starting.

wtf, whitecaps goalscorer Eric Hassli was given his second yellow for "excessive celebration", either he's a knob, or the referee has had a 'mare

Quite a weird game, I'm following it on the MLS website which doesn't provide many details.

Edit: Third red card now, for New England this timeEverton FC2011-04-07 15:49:30

Bit of both.

I'm unable to watch the match (uni internet slow as hell) but it sounds like he whipped his shirt off  yet had a second identical shirt on underneath. Must have hoped it didn't count. It did. Hassli is a hell of a talent but needs to pick up a bit more intelligence.

As an aside, Whitecaps defender Kevin "Grievous Bodily" Harmse played for the LA Galaxy against the Phoenix. As did Caps keeper Joe "#shootjoecannonoutofacannon" Cannon.

Whitecaps conceded the equaliser in the 93rd minute. Ended 1-1. Stolica beat Boxall to a ball nodded down in the box unfortunately.

I have a Bet 365 account, which allows me to watch matches which aren't being showed in N.Z, if that fails I just use myp2p or fromsport.

As for that match, I don't think there would of been a stream for it.Azevo2011-04-29 00:19:50
