In some real controversy in Indonesia, unfortunately I'm not too sure what about. Seems like a conflict with another club's board, he made an incensed Insta post which he then deleted. Pretty poorly worded so I couldn't really figure out what was going on

Thanks for the info lads, some pretty big insults coming his way on social media and some small dick jokes by Smeltzy in rebuttal

Was really surprised to read he's only scored once for the All Whites in the last five years; against Myanmar in 2015.

During the 2010 WC qualification campaign it seemed certain that he would overhaul Coveny's NZ goalscoring record by the time he retired but it looks unlikely he's going to get the four he needs to equal Cov's record. Wood, on the other hand, will surely obliterate it.

Perhaps Mods could also update Smeltzy's club or employment status - Clive Palmer Inc.

Cheers

is he actually playing for them? Thought he retired and was now coaching?

Still listed as an assistant coach for the Sydney NYL team on their webby. Guess he wanted to put the boots back on over winter.

He's left Sydney, supposedly to work for Clive Palmer. He says 'on and off the field' re: Gold Coast so I assume he'll play for them.

Go Smeltzy, go! It's never to late to bang a few goals in (and getting told of by the missus...)

Clive Palmer is an active fascist. He's Australia's Trump, though not as successful yet. This would be the equivalent of standing for the Billy TK party in this country. Shame on Smeltzy.

Seems to somehow recruit well know ex sportsman for PUP. Glenn Lazarus, Kristian Rees and now SS.

Plus these two I've never heard of - Australian rules football player Doug Hawkins and boxer Barry Michael

"On 13 March 2015, Queensland Senator Glenn Lazarus announced his resignation from the PUP, accusing Clive Palmer of bullying, swearing and yelling at people. Lazarus stated "I have a different view of team work. Given this, I felt it best that I resign from the party and pursue my senate role as an independent senator." His wife Tess Sanders-Lazarus joined in, saying "I did make it clear to Clive that I was not happy with being bullied and spoken to using foul language." Palmer responded by sacking her, and then denying their accusations"

Some things money cab buy. Big Clive has plenty of that.

Hope Shane knows what he's doing.

That's really creepy the way he happily accepts that because he works for Clive Palmer he's expected to stand as a candidate for his Trump-lite political party

Hate to say it but Smeltzy seems like a bit of a piece of shark.

Just random thought/question: Shane Smeltz scored goals for the All Whites against teams from every Confederation - is he the only All White to have achieved that?

LOL
When I saw Smeltzy's heading changed to "Guiseley FC" I assumed he had signed on to coach them.
Pretty amazing to be making a comeback as a player at his age (41?)
Northern Premier League - Premier Division
(one of four "None League Premier Divisions")
Seventh tier of English football.
Third level in the non-league pyramid beneath National League and National League (North and South).
So not a bad non-league level really.
Semi-pro with a bit of money behind it.
Certainly not pub football.
Guiseley were in the National League (fifth tier) 2015 - 2018
They have beaten Football League sides to make the second round of the FA Cup in two of the last six seasons.
Looking at Shane's new club, Guiseley AFC, they seem to have better facilities than most of our national league clubs.
The stadium holds 4000 with covered stands.
They have a glossy 52 page colour matchday program etc.
The club has spent 2.5 million pounds in recent years on a redevelopment scheme including upgrading their ground Nethermoor Park to 4000 capacity (covered stands on all four sides).

On his signing for Guiseley Smeltz said: “I have recently come to Leeds with my family and settled here for family and work reasons. I let a few people know that I may want to play and I ended up talking with the Guiseley manager Paul Phillips.
“One thing led to another and I looked into it and the club appealed to me.”
He added: “Obviously I am joining to play my part on the pitch and however the manager and the staff see fit.”
Although Smeltz was at one time looking to move into coaching that is not now the case.
He explained: “I have completed my A coaching licence but I don’t wish to be coaching in any capacity. I am simply happy to be another bit of experience that players and staff can bounce off.”
The vastly experienced player has a full time role in player management, looking after a number of top talents from Australia.

From the announcement. Interesting that he has now become a player agent, wonder who he has on his books.

Doesn't look like you get on the shirt, instead you get a shirt.

"Included in this package is a players shirt at the end of the season, a signed photo of the player, an announcement on our social media platforms thanking you for the sponsorship and a listing in the programme and on the website."
