Went and looked to see if we've ever had more players in the championship.
This is the most, but with a caveat that I only found the data since the Championship renaming in 2004.
Six in the 2026/27 season (Cacace, Crocombe, Stamenic, Brooke-Smith, Just, Bindon).
Next closest are four which happened three times:09/10 (Fallon, Killen, Smith, Wood),11/12 (Smith, Wood, Howieson, Reid), and25/26 (Bindon, Cacace, Crocombe, Stamenic)
Garbett would have been the 7th if he didn't get injured.

With Garbett, Surman and Bell wouldn't be shocking if there were 9 after the January window. Hell I even saw a west ham account saying they were after Chris Wood so we could end up with 10 in the championship (and, as ever, only missing a right back).
This is a dream signing for me as a Kiwi Charlton supporter living in Christchurch (my mum was from Charlton and used to go see the Addicks in the 1940's and 1950's with her dad, including their FA Cup win in 1947). I have been sending scouting information to the club for years and have received some feedback from their scouts in that time. Alan Curbishley, the legendary Charlton manager in their Premier League years who turned Ryan down has a sister living in Auckland. He comes out here for a holiday with his sister quite regularly. Curbs even took the ill-fated NZ Knights for a training session once while visiting his sister. I'm a huge fan of the rock band the Who and they have links with Charlton Athletic through their manager of about 55 years, Bill Curbishley, Alan's older brother. Two legendary brothers, one a rock band manager, the other a football manager.

Tyler will enjoy his time at Charlton. They are a progressive club on the rise with strong community support. There's a really positive, good-humoured down-to-earth vibe about the place which comes from the administrators and management down. The new ownership have an innovative model that works well: seven American friends with some money who like football have invested in the club, as part of their sports portfolio. However, they only provide the money and financial expertise. The model relies on appointing competent locals to run things. Charlton's Chief Financial Officer is a very capable young Londoner in his thirties with a passion for the club and its fans. He even checks out the food and drink franchises on match day in response to fans' criticisms. The club's Vice-Chair is legendary former player Paul Elliott CBE MBE, of Jamaican ancestry much respected for his community work. The club hosted the "Unity Cup" at the Valley for a week in late May, featuring the national teams of India, Jamaica, Nigeria and Zimbabwe. Those countries reflect the immigrant communites of the Charlton area. Once a month on the club's online TV channel Charlton TV (also on You Tube) they have the one hour Monthly Review Show where host Scott Minto (an articulate former player in the Gary Lineker mold) is joined by Alan Curbishley, Steve Brown (a senior former player) and Kevin Lisbie (a senior former player) at The Valley. It's entertaining and informative, with some worthwhile opinions from the likes of Curbs. And they also regularly have a panel of club admins who respond to fans' questions and complaints live.
