Where are they now? - Other Kiwis overseas

Hey folks, I'll check with james Dean as designated forum nazi for this forum if it is okay to do this but thought we might have a thread for players overseas perhaps in lower level competitions (not social or pub football - Jones, Duggan) I'm looking at you) and where they are and when they move.

The idea is not to have detailed week in week out updates but just movements and an occassional how they are doing thread.

My opening bid is Cole Tinkler and Sam Messam both to APIA Leichardt in the NSW Premier League.

VPL squads aren't finalised yet so not sure if Fisher and Hayne will be back there.

Stu Duggan. Went to England at 18 y/o and played Northern Prem for North Ferriby (similar level to NZFC but in my opinion a bit better). Came back to NZ, did OK, started drinking/studying and working, got a bit fat and is now contempleating a historic return to the game in Auckland :-)
Update on the new club TBA.

Its no longer a problem.

I spotted him in the Bencher before the Victory game and 'got a bit fat' is a massive understatement.

Anyway, I've edited the opening post to ensure these sort of updates don't destroy the thread.

What happened to that fella with the crazy last name? Christian Bouckenooghe I think?

Daniel Ellensohn?

Campbell Banks?

Daniel Ellensohn is playing amateur football in England with Hone Fowler.

Three for me, and two for them.

Campbell Banks was playing with Wairarapa United in the Central League. Not too sure of this current status

The Southern Amatuer League Intermediate Division 2 is not a pub or social league at all - we have had two brawls this season.  That is probably the reason why I haven't played since mid November.

Is that the guy who for a while we thought was a kiwi but isn't?  Or someone who is a kiwi?

Ok sorry about that. Some one should ask Team Wellys coach Stu if he really did approach this guy at the 2007 U20 world cup to come play for the All Whites.

This from the option on wiki history (Nov 10th).
 [quote]

Coelho was capped for Portugal at under-19 level, appearing for the nation at the 2006 European Championships and the 2006 Lusophony Games.

The following year, he was picked for the squad at the U-20 World Cup.[2]

Coelho was approached buy Stu Jacobs [3] after Portugals U20 2:0 win over New Zealand U20 (2007 Under 20 FIFA world cup CANADA) to play for the New Zealand senior team as his mother is of New Zealand decent, As of july 2010 Nuno Coelho has yet to played for the Portugal national senior team [4] nore New Zealand senior team[5].

So still no official verdict on whether Coelho is eligible to play for us yet or not (he would walk into AWs if available and will to play for us).

I think that the only personn who can definitely confirm this info or no is Luis Esteves who plays in Portugal and speaks portuguese. Otherwise, there will be always a doubt

He kicks around for an amateur club in Portugal and is currently on a US tour being run by the NZPFA trying to find a college deal.

Esteves that is.

I got incontact with Nuno with help from fans of the club (Academic) on facebook.

I gave them 2 questions to ask him. First one being : Was he ever apporched buy Stu Jacobs at the U20 world cup. Second one was: Is any of his family members from New Zeland.

He said he has never ever talked to anyone fron New Zealand football, Some one had tryed to talk with him after the game againt New Zealand but he cant speak english (under stand it?) and didnt recall who it was.
He has relatives in New Zealand and Australia  (His responce when asked if any family members are from New Zealand).
The Portugal U23 is his main goal now with International Challenge Trophy games againt Italy.

According to wiki (gospel - I know) he has played in the 2006 U19 European Championships, so unless he already had New Zealand nationality at that time, he wouldn't be able to represent New Zealand.

The other possibility to be eligible would be if one of his parents or grand parents were born in NZ

Imagine having a guy who can't speak English playing for New Zealand. Great in theory but would be bizarre to say the least.

Again, response from a fan site, as far as they are concerned, his mother is Portuguese and holds a Portuguese passport.
Does that make a difference if the rellies are born here??

Has to be a parent or grandparent.

Has to be a parent or grandparent.

Also, if it's a parent or grandparent, that doesn't automatically make him eligible does it?

Because I wasn't born in NZ but my mum is a kiwi, I had to apply for citizenship. So if he hadn't done that when he played in the 2006 U19 Euros he wouldn't be eligible? Or do you just have to be eligible to apply at the time? I'm not 100% sure on that.

From the relevant FIFA statute:

He has not played a match (either in full or in part) in an official
competition at A international level for his current Association, and at
the time of his first full or partial appearance in an international match
in an official competition for his current Association, he already had the
nationality of the representative team for which he wishes to play.

But guess it's the kind of thing a national association may want to check with FIFA just in case.el grapadura2011-03-25 12:19:45

If I am not mistaken Luke Rowe's father is English but was born in Wellington and he is still eligible for the AW'S. But I know that the difference in his case is that he has never represented england

Yeah, the issue in Nuno's case is that he may have had to apply for citizenship BEFORE playing for Portugal in the U19 Euros in 2006, and I would guess he didn't do that.
