not saying he played well, just saying he's been maligned for nearly giving away a pen when in fact he foiled an open goal and 4 nil at half time.

Reid scores!

From ESPN: "Goal!! Winston Reid hits a very good header high through the middle from the centre penalty area (aprox. 6 yards) and scores!! West Ham United now leads 4 - 0"

Don't quite get the self pleasuring that seems to happen with Reid, yes I am proud of a NZer making his way in the premier league, but he seems to get a lot more attention, posting and column inches than Nelsen, somebody that was at least brought up though NZ Football.

i think it because Reid is just starting, making his way, not a confirmed starter al the time

well Nelsen is just a complete legend, who you know is going to preform week in week out

just made an amazing save off the line.

Although aside from the goal and the clearance he did have a couple of moments where he nearly cost us goals.  His passing was pretty good and he did ok generally, but really has to cut out the stupid mistakes.

can't help but wonder what kind of situation reid will be in if (when) grant is shown the door. He seems to see something in winnie that the majority of the west ham fan forum dont.

hearing of him scoring doesn't really do much for me, I would much rather hear he was starting consistently and keeping a few clean sheets

Enough with all the hating on Winnie. Everyone here knows he has struggled since joining West Ham, him scoring today doesn't change that, and he'll know that too. But still, great to see him score his first goal, and good on him.

That's my rant... you can go back to your wankfest now

Why so much negativity? A Kiwi scored for a top-flight english club. Something we should be happy about.

Get a life. Why wouldnt we be happy to see a Kiwi score in this competition and playing in the premiership. Noone is saying he is the greatest.  I'm not sure what you are on about

Got a life and an opinion. Some A) cant read as I said I am proud of his achievements aso therefore am not a "hater" and B) don't get sarcasam or poking fun!

I am just not sure that all the hype around him is totally justified. IMHO he was the 3rd best NZ centreback at the WC - behind Nelsen and Smith, and out of those 3 has had the least succesful season - yet gets all the attention.

What did he do? f**k your missus?

Three for me, and two for them.

Has he though? He's now breaking into the Premiership side, and Smith's spent a good chunk of the season on the bench in the Championship.

Not so sure - he is just the type of player that the club will be looking to retain if we get relegated (or even if we stay up).  He is young, with potential, and cheap.  Upson is off, Da Kosta (having been signed in the days of madness) would be on a fair bit so the club would prefer to have him go and keep our Winnie.  The centre back pairings for next season will be Tomko and our Winnie.

He didnt actually get on and they won 3 -1 against liverpool.

Giot all excited looking at the headline, thinking, well he must have gone alright and then dissappointed that he was warming the bench the whole time

Anyone know if the online auction regarding some of his memorabilia has started yet or where exactly it is?

it was being  reported that Upson was out for the season, but he played against Liverpool so obviously not.  He has tendinitous which I imagine will require lots of rest, so will possibly only play the key games (with painkillers) but not all of them.  This will give our winnie some more playing time between now and the end of the season (including a trip to Wembley if we overcome Stoke in the FA Cup quarter final).

Anyone know why Reid not even on the bench? Injured or just dropped?

With Gabbiadon back fit I think he's moved down the pecking order.

at one point da Kosta, gabbidon and upson were all injured. and reid got decent game time. now looks like all mostly fit, they are on good roll so reid not required. James tomkins was on the bench today and he had been lauded for performances over past couple of months. Upson and da Kosta are the preferred pair it looks.
