Well FA obviously rate Gillet, and does Brentford & Reid a favour by sending off Mepham, when Bees were down 2-0 on aggregate.

They win the game 3-1 (3-2 on aggregate). Winner at 81 mins. Bees EPL dream stays alive. Reid an unused sub.
Plenty of drama in this one to keep Gillet on his toes.

I thought Gillet did really well in an everything at stake game. He chose well when to let things go and when to pull play up. The red card was obvious.

Brentford built a new stadium  especially for the occasion when they were hoping to go up last season. It's been delayed by one season but it's within their reach. I'll miss seeing their games at Griffin Park, but this new Stadium in which they played this season, is a good size for the club. Not too big, but big enough in case Fulham and Chelsea fans jump ship.

No, No QPR fans will ever jump to Brentford. That's like United fans jumping ship to city. Not that United have many fans actually in Manchester ;)

This week's Flying Kiwis.

"Winston Reid, it would now appear, was mostly signed to cover the period before club captain Pontus Jansson came back from injury because after one or two overlapping games that was about when Reid stopped playing. He did have a couple strong showings for them though and he’s still around if they need him in the final – Reid got promoted with WHU via the playoffs a decade ago so he knows what’s up.

This does suggest he won’t be returning if Brentford do go up... however West Ham secured Europa League footy on the final day of their own season so maybe they’ll want some extra defensive depth after all. The Hammers go straight into the group stage; Reid has never made it that far before in his career. Otherwise there’ll be plenty more options for him, no doubt."

Yes they can!!! Reid came on as second half substitute. Collects play off winners medal to go with one he won with West Ham

Think being a backup CB at Brentford in an EPL season would be a good fit for injury prone Reid, and hopefully AWs heading into 2022. Much better than signing up for a Championship side as a first choice defender and a 46 game season slog.

He might be unlikely to get to Tokyo though, if it means having to skip preseason.

Always found it a bit weird they get medals and a trophy for beating teams 4th, 5th and 6th, yet they wouldn’t get them had they done better and finished second.

Wonder what the plan is for Reid, his West Ham contract runs until end of 22/23 season and is on big money, that he is almost certain not to get anywhere else given his drop off since signing it. Loan would have to be the way he’d get regular game time, as West Ham have operated without him for so long that they have appropriate cover, although Europa League might mean a few extra bodies are required. Either way, I can’t see him playing much, if any, Premier League next season, but he might look to MLS, like he did with Sporting KC, or maybe even as a senior defender/mentor at a Danish club like København/Midtjylland.

With the injury the other night, any one else think that we've just seen the last of Reid in a white shirt?
Also, if its serious, it will make finding a new club much harder. It's a pity his body is breaking down on him.

So his loan with Brentford has ended?
Can't imagine Brentford would be keen to pay his wages, and can't imagine West Ham would be keen to subsidise the wages of a premier league rival. I think Reid may have been the highest paid player in the championship while playing for Brentford. It was Ismaila Sarr earlier in the season but he spent the second half of the season on loan in France.

Edit: double checked and there were a handful of players being paid more than Reid last year, but very few. He was still in the top 5 in terms of wages.

If West Ham consider he's not going to be part of there EPL squad. Would a club like The Hammers negotiate a pay out and release him from his contract ?
Or would they just keep loaning him out for as much $$ as they can get and continue paying his wages.

It's possible that West Ham might keep him on the books for this season. They're playing in the Europa League and may need additional depth at CB given they've let go of Balbuena. Unless they sign Zouma...

He might well play on the (medical) bench again this season if his knee injury today is bad.  If I was him, I'd do what ever I could to stay on that contract as it will be his last big cheque.

Any news on the man? Has he got a loan anywhere?

From this week's Flying Kiwis.

WHUFC.com: “Winston Reid is still working his way back to fitness after suffering an injury on Olympic duty with New Zealand.”

Already coulda guessed that but it’s nice to know for sure. If Reid’s injury is bad then it could scupper his chances of a transfer before the window closes (although there’s a little more time available for loans which is most likely).
One thing’s for sure is the shop window of the Olympics didn’t really help him. Yes, he was brilliant in the South Korea game... but then the injuries occurred and it’s not Reid’s ability that will be causing teams to balk on him, it’ll be his fitness problems.

The Olympics kinda only reinforced them. But hey if he’s stuck at West Ham then he might still get games, they’ve got a Europa League campaign to balance and defensive depth ain’t all there for the Hammers at the moment. You never know.

You would think that West Ham are a little aggrieved with him given his decision to play against Japan? Won’t be a great precedent for getting Boxall released in future either you’d think.
Did seem the act of someone for whom an Olympic semi-final would be greater than much else he could hope to achieve in the near future at a club. Almost worked too!

Well at 70,000 pounds per week (that's not a misprint), yes Hammers would have a point if he returned to East London having aggravated an earlier injury.

I'm sure at a minimum they would like to get him out on another loan deal like Sporting Kansas and Brentford, to share some of that salary pain, for a contract that doesn't end until 2023.

Fudge em, if he'd done well they may have been able to sell him. Boxall is different because he's a starting player for his team, Hammers have moved on.

Surely he's smarter than that?? He's only to look at the Nix, one of the most stable clubs in the league that has been going for what, 14 years? And we're yet to turn a profit... I know he's wealthy beyond reason but he'd probably rather invest in some lab grown meat, constellation satellites, plant based foods instead...

Back to where it all began with Midtjylland (currently 2nd in Superliga) in Denmark?

Best he did at his early days there was league runners up (2008/09), plus beaten finalist DBU Pokalen 2009/10. So be nice to have a crack at some silverware before his career finished. Plus bit of Europa League football.
