Seems that he has that fine upstanding citizen Tony Veitch on tonight's show?

Now, 1 SECOND after talking about how the All Whites are close to the world cup, some balloon has asked why ALL New Zealand national sides are struggling at the moment??? Eh?

The problem with Miles as a commentator is that he's not really a broadcaster - he's really just a fan..he's great on say talk back talking about football but not quite professional enough to actually commentate a game, or provide comments, without sounding a bit, well, fan like!

Yeah I know what you mean but still.....his knowledge of the game is better than the so called experts like Elrich and De Jong. I'll still prefer him, I have to say.

Davis can speak sentences. Elrick can't. So Miles has that advantage at least.

Have you guys found that sometimes elrick is saying something, and it completely doesn't make sense because he replaces a word with another one that is completely irrelevant?  Often followed by a bemused silence...

As I live in Australia, you are right, I have never heard his show. However, the two blokes you are talking about are ex All Whites. I can tell you now that he won't know more about the game- he might come accross better, but thats all.

Mark 'The Eight-yard Box' Elrick.

Enough said.

Yeah... look Leggy, I know the old boys network is strong but you're going to struggle to convince anyone that Elrick is a footballing genius.  This is the same man who refused to select Marco Rojas for an age group side because he couldn't juggle well enough.

Why do you assume that ex all whites know more about the game? Nigel Yeldan, the rugby commentatotr would know twice as much about Rugby as at least half of the ex All Blacks out there. Not making it to a national side doesn't mean you can't be an expert, nor does making mean you automatically are an expert.

I understand what you say, but you can't really mean that a radio guy knows more about football than an ex AW.
If thats the case, then thats a real worry.
I know the guys on Foxs sports in Oz tend to be a bit over the top, but they do know their fooball.

I have to say that I had not heard that, but it reminds me of a story about a guy in the 80's from Hamilton who had a trial at Man U. He was flicking a 50p coin from his foot to his forhead when the Manager walked in and said 'You should be in a circus son', which goes to show that what you said about Elrick shows that the guy is a w**ker.

Played for the AW a few times in the 80's and scored a few goals as well. Not a bad player, a bit flash.

It's funny especially considering his son plays football for Shore.

Three for me, and two for them.

Deaker just don't follow the game as intensive as he would for Rugby and even for Rugby, he gets things wrong much to the irk of some Rugby supporters. He makes up for that wrong with his own passion, tho. So don't expect him to know more than his silly association football guest because he would more than likely follow their wrong ideas.

Yeah but just because his son can kick a round ball does not mean he or his son can understand the state of the game in the country. Thats goes the same for Brendon Telfer.

All these commentators that follow Rugby but their children plays Association really annoys me. Even Telfer is coaching the junior Soccer but he seems loves Netball and Rugby more.

Why cant they accept that their children is always right concerning the superior sport to play in. Even Ian Smith have to concede the goodness that soccer has been to his son.

Did anyone else see the Deaker on sport with Fallon, Adshead and vicelich last night? What an embarassement Deaker was! kept on saying how 'soccer' wasn't his go, kept saying stuff like 'well John knows more about that than you do Kevin" or vice versa and was pratting on about how outclassed we were against bahrain. I'd hate to think what tourists from europe would have thought of if they watched that interview.

As I said he is a D---HEAD! He's anti-football because he sees it as a threat, so do alot of others, hear them on the radio all the time. Anything to do with football lets knock it!

Anyone who grew up in NZ in the 70's and played football would know about the animosity shown towards the sport and the players by the rugby-heads.

Deaker is part of that generation (actually even before that -but still consistent with the prevailing ethos then) and as such is probably incapable of seeing the sport as anything but incomprehensible and/or a threat to the national game.

The level of angst that these sort of people show must mean that football is starting to come of age here in New Zild.

Either that or he's a d!ckh#@d.
