Does anyone know what sky pay for the A league and when these rights are up?

You would think with two a league clubs these rights must go up a bit?

I don't know what they pay for the rights, but this is the first season of a 3 year deal. So the 26/27 season would be the last on their current deal

Sky are taking cost-cutting to ridiculous lengths.
They've done way with their 0800 number and are using an Auckland landline number.
Hence it's now a toll call for anyone who phones them from outside of Auckland.
(And you can only remove channels by phoning them).
Even quite small businesses use an 0800 number, for goodness sake!
Sky obviously want to reduce the need for call centre staff by deterring people from phoning.
                                        ___________________________________
Oh, and to save more pennies at the viewers' expense, they axed their Sky Open Plus One channel last week where you can watch Sky Open programs an hour later like TV One Plus One, Three Plus One etc.
                                       ______________________________________
Sky clearly aren't employing enough technicians to cater for customers either, especially now there are a lot of call outs to adjust satellite dishes in redines for the satellite changeover soon:
"Kia ora Sky customers,
Recently, some customers haven’t had the seamless in-home technician support experience we aim to deliver. We want to acknowledge this and assure you that we’ve been listening to your feedback."

Removing the 0800 # shouldn't really impact most people. Unless you're living in the '80s and relying on a landline. Call from your mobile and use your free calling minutes.

i am living in the 80's never owned a mobile phone,
Snap!
I dislike people being able to contact me too easily.
When I'm working I like to concentrate on stuff or else enjoy peace and quiet when I'm out in nature or enjoying recreational activities.
People I enjoy hearing from know to phone me at home on my landline after work.
Or they can email me.
Plus a home phone is thrown in for $5 per month with my broadband.
I don't see the need to pay extra for a mobile.
I understand that other people enjoy using a mobile though.

Most people not using there mobil phones for phone calls, you can silent it by default. There are plenty other things you can do with your 'phone' it eg taking photos, videos, reading a book, listen to music.

Probably not the place for this but as he works for Sky as a comments presenter - Paul Ifill. Yes our legendary former player and general all round nice guy - 21 Years ago he was in the FA Cup Final. I note this as I watch Crystal Palace v Millwall 5th Round game right now. Paul playing for the 'Wall.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I note this as I watch Crystal Palace v Millwall 5th Round game right now. Paul playing for the 'Wall.
I was fortunate to chat with Paul Ifill about that Final in 2023 before a Christchurch United game at Yaldhurst.
I was mainly interested in Tim Cahill, the greatest ever player of Samoan ancestry, featuring when I watched the game in 2004.
Paul said he and Tim are still good mates and keep in touch.
FUN FACTS:
Full name | Paul Everton Ifill
No prizes for guessing which team his dad supported!
2004 FA Cup Final:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_FA_Cup_final
"It was Millwall's first appearance in a final of either the FA Cup or the League Cup."
"Although they had reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup on three prior occasions: 1900, 1903 and 1937. Their appearance in the 1937 semi-final was notable as Millwall were the first team in the old Third Division to reach that stage. The 2004 side also became only the second team from outside the top flight of English football to reach the final since 1982, and the first team from outside the Premier League since its foundation in 1992. Millwall reached the 2004 decider without having met any club from the Premier League along the way."
MORE A-LEAGUE AND PHOENIX CONNECTIONS IN THAT FINAL:
Kevin Muscat was the Millwall captain that season but missed the Final due to injury.
Tony Warner who later made 15 appearances for the Phoenix (2011-12) was the regular Millwall goalie that season but also missed the Final injured.

Yeah, great.

sigh, if I was only interested in one sport it wouldnt be so difficult to get rid of Sky. I get it - new satellite, increased rights costs etc, it just continues to get more stoopid.

i got rid of it several months ago. i've been spammed ever since. you know, those calls with a big delay in the voice. i have politely asked three times for calls to please stop.

the price increases, plus these practices have made the sky brand mud for me.

i didn't feel this way when i cancelled; i thought i'd probably be back at some point.

I just checked out DAZN as I wanted to see if they had the rights to some international friendlies/EURO qualification games.
I realised they have both Serie A and Europa League (great for Roma!).
Does anyone know how their service compare with BeIn? (Do they have full replays up reasonably quickly after the games end and do they play every single game from these two competitions?).

Who has the rights to most euro/international friendlies in NZ?
Sucks that I got a one year plan for BeIn this year..but if I get to watch the Europa league games, I'll probably shell out for DAZN as well if next year I can just one of the two services...

Sky TV have the rights to all UEFA national team matches (but not the Euros themselves) - Sky broadcast live and have on demand on Sky Go:
UEFA Men's Nations League qualifiers and finals
UEFA European Championship qualifiers
UEFA World Cup qualifiers
UEFA friendly matches
Sky broadcast the England v Wales freindly on Friday morning.
UEFA.TV
UEFA's free streaming platform have all UEFA national team comps as highlights only.
Watch via the website or the app.
I have the app on my Google TV streamer.
They have preview and interview videos that you don't get on Sky too.
They have all three UEFA club comps with some good options:
highlights of most games, extended highlights (12 mins) for each game and a full "game of the round" on demand plus the final in full on demand.
UEFA.tv broadcast every game free live in the Women's Euros this year.
DAZN
Broadcast live and on demand every game in all three UEFA club competitions.
They only have highlights of Serie A, Bundesliga and la Liga.
No full games or replays of any full games in any major European men's league.
beIN has the rights for Serie A, la Liga and Bundesliga in NZ
DAZN - club leagues it has full games from: English men's National League (5th tier), Jupiler Pro League (Belgian top tier)
Womens Serie A, Women's la Liga.
Using the DAZN app is the way to go, to watch on your TV.
I have it on my Google TV Streamer.
They've recently improved the interface on the app - now when you click on an on demand game, three options come up: full game, extended highlights, highlights.
Last year it was annoying and hard to work out how to find the full replay because you had to click on the highlights video which would start playing, giving away the result which was unwanted if you wanted to watch the full replay, which was  a tab beneath the highlights video...ridiculous.
Excellent interface now though.
You can look for games listed by competition or click on a club of your choice from the full list of clubs in each comp.
ESPN (on Sky TV and Disney+)
The two Australasian ESPN channels on Sky have added some football recently.
They now have a game or two from each round of the Dutch Eredivise plus the UEFA Women's Champions League.

Sky Sport and Sky Sport Now are finally getting a much-requested feature: 4K – or ultra-high-definition video that offers up to four times the picture quality of the standard high definition the broadcaster uses today.

NZ HERALD :The company has yet to publicly reveal its plans, but confirmed to Tech Insider that 4K will debut on both services with the first Ashes test, beginning on November 21.

There are some provisos, however: There will be only one Sky Sport channel in 4K (Sky Sport 1), but Sky adds: “At times when more than one live sport event is available in UHD [ultra-high-definition], Sky will offer a pop-up 4K UHD channel.” The 4K Sky Sport content will be at no extra cost.

For Sky Sport Now users, there will also be one 4K offering (the mirrored Sky Sport 1 live feed). It will cost an extra $5 per month in the form of a new 4K UHD Premium Month Pass (a standard month pass is currently $54.99).

No on-demand content will be available in 4K.

Sky Sport Now annual pass holders will get the 4K stream at no additional cost.

Those 4K contraints (only one channel, no on-demand) and extra fee would be hilarious if they weren't so pathetic.

Does Sky still charge a standard HD ticket for their sky box?

It is also on demand content, it's not an extra fee if you are a new box or annual Sky sport now subscriber and no sky have not charged for HD for like 8 or 9 years from memory.

I was out of the country for the Perth game, and wanted to watch it on YouTube - I heard that was possible. But its seems its not any more? Is that correct now, so the  only way to watch it is with a subscription; Sky Now in NZ is the only option I find at $59 / month for NZ. In Ozzy I think you can watch it on Paramount+ for only about aud$10.99 and maybe Network 10 for free? Any other options out there from different countries?

Also a joke that in 2025 Sky Now isnt broadcasting in 4k!

some of the games are free on Sky Free (formally Prime) - yeah I guess Sky is really behind all those other platforms showing 4k football, league, cricket, rugby in NZ.. oh wait......

It is widely available on youtube, but depends what country.
The below link shows all the countries where it won't be available on youtube
This season the list of Youtube countries seems to have decreased - lots of Asian countries have rights deals now.

And very annoyingly some of these rights deals have resulted in a total blackout of coverage, when they’re only showing Sakai’s games so far…absolute scam.

There are other options out there, but are predominantly for live sport, not on demand, and are also basically illegal.
I have a service I use which is fantastic, but I still pay for the Annual Pass for SKY as I need that on-demand service for English Football. Gone are the days of getting up at 3am, I'm too old now and need my sleep

Lol, the thieves continue to thieve.

I only look at the Sky Sport Now prices since I haven't had Sky TV in years, and I haven't had SSN since they ticked over $50, but in March 2023 it was $39.99 for a month and now three years later they're after $59.99? A 50% increase!

Kiwis continue to be taken for a ride. RIP to the wallets of everyone who continues to use them. 😆

Sky's subscribers will vote with their wallets ultimately, if it gets too expensive, their subs will drop, but at $15 a week (couple of flash coffees) for most that's affordable. Each person has to decide their own value derived from it. I paid $399 for the Black Friday deal, which is about $7.50 a week (that's based on the price before the increase)

If you only want to watch the Hurricanes and that's it - it's $15 to watch 80mins of rugby a week, and people will determine if that's worth it.

If you want to watch the Nix, the Hurricanes and the Warriors, plus whatever else, then the value equation changes pretty quickly.

I'm no SKY apologist, god knows I've had a crack at them on this forum many times but there aren’t many countries that bundle this much sport under one subscription. In places like the UK you’re paying two or three separate subs just to follow your football team, and even then you still miss games (if they're on at 3pm on a Saturday)

Anyhow just my 2 cents worth.

yeah, totally this!
As much as it feels like Sky are taking the piss sometimes, the rights to televise sport are expensive, the joy of having pro athletes who are paid directly or indirectly from the revenue genearated by ticket sales and TV rights. Then you have the production costs. Skydoes this for most of the sports that kiwis want to watch. If Rugby, league, football, cricket, F1 and many more all had their own sub models the cost to the ocnsumer would likely be more overall. Especially if you wanted to follow mulltiple leages/events.
