I honestly don't see why that is published. He could have tried to articulate it into an actual article, and some people may have enjoyed it, this isn't even a top 10 list or anything like that sort, good lord.

I looks at who wrote it and had low expectations before I read it. It did not even reach those.

Just read this...OMFG! My brain hurts. I have no words.

Not quite the right place for this but it is useful to illustrate the different perspectives placed by each organisation on the same news item:

In chronological order:

2. NZ Herald: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11179140 More factual and covers the options for an air rescue.  

3. Guardian: http://www.theguardian.com/world/antarctica-live/2013/dec/29/trapped-antarctic-passengers-air-evacuation Much more detail about a rescue operation and conditions leading up to the stranding and subsequent efforts to reach the vessel.

My non-journalistic take on this: Stuff is much more lightweight and more looking for some sensationalism than the Herald or the Guardian.

And......?

and this is consistent with the coverage of the nix/all whites by stuff and herald. It suggests a general style by each outfit.

Okay, not directly about the doom post but about Stuff.co.nz so near enough. Just went onto their mobile site and read the sports stories and the Nix victory was the 8th story. Now I'll accept the Corey Anderson ton being above it but an opinion piece on Steven Adams and articles on domestic cricket matches which draw crowds of 200 people being above it? Really Stuff?

Does anyone know where in auckland you can purchase this rag? Just after a one off copy of yesterday's paper...

Bloody good paper that Dom Post.  Much better than Granny Herald.

It has a picture though, so it's only an opinion that he is joining them. 

It could represent an opportunity to build bridges and get some football/nix reporting with credibility back.

True. Though if they're going to offer you an opportunity you're going to take it. Probably also sees it as a chance to improve the standard and do something about some of the crap journalism. Believe that is apparently also part of the reason Elle got into real estate #randomvaguelyrelevantfact 

The more column inches Ifill gets, the less some other muppet gets. Of course, it depends ok what he writes. 

Can he write though? If not, does he have enough salient points and opinions for a ghost writer to get it to work? Iffs might have too many friends so that if he writes something controversial everyone will just stay quiet and not generate any publicity, we shall see.

That just means they give the nix advertising in exchange for advertising boards etc at games. 

So, thoughts on the first column from Ifill? I think he'll be able to offer decent Nix insight, in terms of writing style it seemed extremely bullet-pointy, it read like he's been having a yarn with someone who then ghost-wrote it (Dave Burgess, perhaps?). I could be wrong though.

It reads like it is Paul speaking his mind. Of course it won't be in 100% Journo-speak, and look - it has his picture at the top with "comment" underneath so it isn't a Sam Worthington article.
