New Zealand could be forced into a change after Tim Southee picked up a stomach bug between Tests. He has been laid low for two days and if he doesn't recover Iain O'Brien would be the favourites to come in

  • England have only lost once at Old Trafford in the last 10 years, against Pakistan in 2001.

  • New Zealand have not won in six attempts at Old Trafford, finishing with two defeats and four draws.

  • Vettori is the one remaining player from the last time these two teams met in Manchester in 1999

Noen of that matters - its going to rain all week! Forecast for Manchester says rain today and showers for the rest!!! Another rain affected draw. On a brighter note Southee bowled in the nets and should pull up ok!

    Oh no not more rain!

heard southee got thru a 6 over spell at training at old trafford. please not obrien, and actually rather mason whos a bit more acurate and gets seem movement. obrien bowls too short and gets a bit of tap. although in saying that he does have a yard of pace on mason and might be a good option against the left handers, but id still rather southee than both of them!

One of the most significant moments of the Old Trafford Test will happen moments before the first ball is bowled. Darrell Hair will walk to one of the sets of stumps, either at the Stretford or Brian Statham End, and put the bails in place. Twenty-one months ago at The Oval it was the opposite action which thrust Hair into the spotlight and began one of major controversies the sport has seen.

I have a couple of quid on us winning the test (6-1) and Jamie How being our top scorer in the first innings.

Hopefully we will get rolled for 160 (so I win the bet about How being top scorer in the first innings) and then it rains for the rest of the test.

40.3 Anderson to Flynn, no run, he's missed that and there's blood on the pitch, he tries to pull a short one but that's too quick for him, struck full on on the face and that seems to have gone through the grill, he's taken off his helmet and is spewing blood on the ground DR Flynn retired hurt 4 (13b 1x4 0x6) SR: 30.76 That's struck the lower lip and his teeth appear damaged. good effort from lads, im a bit worried about jamie how, already he is displaying that oh so new zealand of tendency and getting 60odd and getting out. big hundreds people!
hopefully rossco can show him how tonight!

they got run out because there running was under5s level at best but you are right he does seem to be involved in running 'incidents' more often than i would like.
great innings though and a good performance by the team.
1st session tonight is where you win a test match, take 2 or 3 wickets and we are very much in a position to control the game from there

You can't really blame Taylor for the run-outs. Both incidents should have been comfortable runs - Oram was too blase and didn't even try to hussle and stretch his bat, and the less said about Vetorri's pathetic jump over the popping crease the better.

Can't understand how we can through our wickets away like that! A lead of 150+ and all out for 114! Whats with that! It all comes down to how the English play Vettori - clearly neither team can handle spin.
