That's incredible  it's like a constant bombing raid!

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.

First day of volunteering today (did you know volunteers don't get paid - I'm livid!) and we helped 3 different houses and all we did for hours was shovel sand off their lawns of which there was literally tonnes.  Takes ages and to think that only a tiny minority of houses in the bad areas have been shovelled kind of puts in in perspective.  The shovelling's just one aspect of the clean-up as well - heaps of other stuff to do as well.

Slept all afternoon. Shattered. Back to work tomorrow. Apparently the underground room is the only safe bit. Not looking forward to it..

The aftershock this morning wwas on another fault line hence it's location. There is a chance we could also get hit out South New Brighton way.

And then the Alpine could be triggered too..

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

I vaguely remember that NZ provided assistance & donations to the last couple of Australian disasters (drought & bushfires, I think). Have the Aussies offered anything to Canterbury yet? Have they offered Deans back?

It's any wonder the press haven't hit Deans up about it yet. Isn't he a descendant of the original Deans family? I've felt a few more this morning, one bigish one and two small ones, I still wake up every time they hit. I heard all the other plates are moving around now to align with the changes, hence why they seem to be getting closer to town.

About 500 turned up to volunteer this morning.  Super effort.  Saw a few of the houses to be demolished, sucks for the owners alright.

Very much so.  They provided lunch though (didn't think they would) and there was heaps of pizza, a sausage sizzle, random food and soup.  Quality.  When word of that spreads you'll probably see people getting their gumboots and a shovel to look legit, going over for lunch then running off home.

On the flip side of that (I don't live in Chch and never will) the dairy farming community in Selwyn is probably stronger than ever. All over the place farmers have let others in need graze land for no cost, and in our case the farmer purchased some baleage in at his own expense for us the day of the quake. Dairy NZ put on a free lunch at a farm around the corner for us. Fonterra have been magnificent the last week and a bit, continuing to pick up milk with no quality penalties due to many farmers not being able to milk for a couple of days in extreme cases, and also offered counseling at no cost to farmers who were struggling mentally with what was going on. Federated Farmers offered to milk on anyone's farm who needed an afternoon off too.

Taxi driver today randomly told me about this prisoner he had just had in the cab before me, apparently the guy had been in jail for 13 years and had just got out, the taxi driver said he kind of freaked when he heard that, but the prisoner said the worst part about the whole 13 years was experiencing that earthquake, the floors and walls were moving, the power was off, it was pitch black, the water was off, they couldn't shower (lucky for some), and they were all crying.

These aftershocks are getting very old. It could be my imagination (and the fact that it's the weekend) but they seem to be getting closer together again and more intense.

The aftershocks were freaky, there was one at around 2am i think, followed by another a couple of minutes later, then one at around 8am, but the one at 1030am, holy heck, that was awful, quite sickening actually, malls here have been evacuted, buidlings are damaged, some people have lost power, just when ya think there going to be no more after shocks, we have one like this.

It was 4.9, but was shallow so felt stronger.
