Ace in the hole starring Kirk Douglas ,particularly pertinent given the on going situation with the Chilean miners !

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.

Animal Kingdom. Saw it last night, pretty good.

Along with Harry Brown though, not one to watch if you fancy being cheered up!

Brothers is quality. Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman, Tobey Maquire.

I'm quite excited by 'The Town', Ben Affleck's second feature film as a director. And 'Gone Baby Gone' was really good. And have heard good things from 'The Town'. It seems he is sticking close to his Boston roots so far.

Those who haven't seen 'Gone Baby Gone' it's like a grittier 'Without a Trace' but better.

I thought it was quite good, I remember Letterman was going on about it on his show being the best thing he has seen in ten years.

MacGruber is a mixture of funny and so funny you accidently wee yourself a bit*

What other film has a villan called Dieter Von c**th ("lets go pound some c**th") - Classic MacGruber.

* this is not true - it is actually pretty average with a couple of funny bits.

We saw it last night. I'd agree with linds. Friend said he felt it was quite "Death Wish".
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

If you want to see a depressing film, watch Precious. Nothing nice about it. Horrible, horrible, but a very good film.

REC 2 has been shown on Rialto - I thought it was better than the first one.

Rec was great and Rec 2 started off just where the other left off and didn't disappoint one bit.  Rec 3, if it can keep up the high standards would probably make it one of the best trilogies where every movie in it is good.  I can't think of another good trilogy off the top of my head.

EDIT:  LOTR trilogy was good.  Point still stands, Rec films are quality and also very different so hard to compare.

Re: The Expendables. I know someone who's seen the uncut version of this flick and in some scenes where you thought it was cut - it was and this uncut version has it all, including the full Arnold scene near the start.
Can't wait for the Official DVD to come out. It was a good flick full of "In" jokes at the main actors.

Legends of the Guardians in 3D.

Got the approval of both Jnr Jnr & Jnrette.

The owls speak in Aussie accents for the most part with a few Lunduners frown in for good measure.

Worth seeing in 3D

(nb - film for kids but with a lot of owls fighting with metal talons)

3d is awful, if there's a regular version I may watch it.

Saw The Other Guys and it's quality.  If you aren't a fan of Will Ferrell then I don't know if you'll like it as he's certainly the best.  Most of his facial movements are enough to make me laugh, let alone his comments.

And by the way, the lion-tuna conversation (at least what I saw on youtube) is far, far longer in the movie making it all the better.

I watched Get him to the Greek or whatever it is called last night.  Thought I would hate it as I think that Brand is a c**t, and Puffy Diddly or whatever is name is is a c**t as well, but it was actually surprisingly good.

I give it 2 thumbs up out of 3 thumbs.

Most of the 3D offerings are really quite gimmicky and not much is lost by seeing them in 2D.

How to Tame a Dragon, Toy Story 3 (so I'm told) and Crikey! Legends of the Guardians Mate are ones that 3D makes for good viewing.

PS If you are over 12 you might not find LotG quite as enjoyable as we did.

As a one off I don't mind it (Avatar) but after that no thanks.  People saying it's the way of the future is a terrible prospect.  I got told that by saying I dislike 3-d I was as stupid and illogical as a person who was opposed to bringing colour into movies which otherwise would have been black and white.  Someone has to be wrong I guess.

I saw Avatar in 3D and only because I got free tickets (for both Avatar and 3D, I wouldn't pay for either). Just gave me a headache and added nothing.

I thought The Damned United was really good. I didn't know a lot about Brian Clough before, he was an interesting character. And good football-related films are rare.

Fuck this stupid game

I saw Avatar in IMAX 3D and it was good, but not really mind-blowing. The effects themselves were pretty mind-blowing but the actual 3D aspect wasn't anything completely amazing.

Still, I look forward to seeing what Jackass 3D can come up with!

Went and saw The other guys last night.

Meh.

It had some funny moments (in fact, some very funny moments) but overall there wasn't enough for an entire film.  In my ranking of Will Ferrel films, it sits about halfway (above Step Brothers and Land of the Lost, but behind Talladega Nights and Anchorman).
