I detest the America's Cup thingie.

Reads to me that Ineos would be prepared to host their defence in NZ if NZ defended a one off challenge in the UK.

Well NZ stumped up a tonne of cash for little return. And people are complaining about a little more to actually get a harbor crossing which we’ll use. I’m still pissed about theatre moving from the Maidment down to the windy empty wharf. 
They should show some loyalty and look at Des or Uffie. There’s some bloody leadership. And if the challenge isn’t held in NZ it’s Emirates Team for mine. 

It’s super league. But we’re muppets, just like we were throughout the 90s. Take our money and our stuff, sure please do!

There's a lot of intangible benefits from having a high performance industry based in NZ, there's obviously brand NZ but there's more than that. For instance, all of the sail GP boats are built in NZ, another example is that Rocketlab uses technology and knowledge developed within NZ for sailing to design it's rockets (which are the first carbon fiber composite rockets). You could say that without the Americas cup, NZ wouldn't have a space industry.

The economics of it all might have affected all the teams and their sponsors, not just the New Zealand entrant. perhaps they are asking for too much.

Rocket lab doesn’t get downtown Auckland going. And if it goes to Britain we’re not developing anything here either...
I mean we give big screen productions breaks for jobs. America’s cup is a lot of tourism, spectators, super yachts etc. As well it’s in the title or they should call themselves Emirates team Arsenal Isle of Wight or wateva and allow us to back another NZ team. 

It’s exactly like Manchester or Milan lending their name to competitive home games that happen in America and Asia. It makes it meaningless and it is stealing the Manchester or the Milan part of the team. 

It’s a two-fold objection. Identity theft and loss of post-vaccination travel event bump tourism given the amount fronted for little or no return in the last effort.

I’m sure there may be counter arguments, but those are my basic objections to an overseas defense. 

Any guy who gets conned out of $3m doesn't deserve public money.
