I'd like to see the figures for the return on the investments the government has made. No doubt the country does make money, but all I've seen on the telly are lots of rich people drinking champagne and schmoozing.
Britain's investment and lottery funding in cycling has bought amazing success that has encouraged new people to take up the activity. This is going to help cut the cost of running the health service in the future, ( apart from the epidemic of sore backs) . I like this as everyone can cycle. Sadly the closest I'll get to a yatch is my kayak.

What I find annoying is that no one was talking about this a month ago, or even a week ago. Now we are going to win, everyone is onboard, raving about how much they like it and talking about tacks like they didn't think that they were only used for hanging things on walls until recently.
Also, I was on a conference call with a guy in the UK yesterday, who mentioned that there had been nothing in the press over there about it at all. I said that there is nothing in the press here about fox hunting or polo as press tends not to cover rich peoples indulgences from the other side of the world. He laughed and the other couple of people in the room with me looked outraged at my lack of national pride. I just smiled smugly.
Also, the boat is called Emirates New Zealand - now I know that it is the airline that is sponsoring the boat, but do people not realise that it is the names of 2 different countries? It is like if Aussie had an airline called Australia and they sponsored us making Australia New Zealand - it just seems mental to me.

This. NZ is a massive bandwagoning country. One week after the final race, and barely anyone will care bout sailing again. Media has had a big role in this by cliaming that the whole country is gripped by it. I doubt anyone in South Auckland gives a rats ass.

Helps I guess that I worked in San Francisco for awhile so enjoy seeing the city.

I've never really been interested in boat racing, but e.g. in the Olympics every country has basically the same dinghy and sails so it comes down to the one or two sailors. The same I guess for those kayaks and canoe thingies. That's sport (but still rather boring).
