Ok, on the premise that we cant collapse so badly again we are well and truly back in this game now.
Yeah, pretty sure we can do an even worse job than we did today.
Get one of these two soon and we expose what is a softish underbelly

The same soft underbelly that added over 50 for the last two wickets yesterday?

Can't wait for tommorow, first match of cricket after a 6 week injury, and the Blackcaps on the wireless as well.

Just a couple tips for you. DON'T bat like Redmond but DO bowl like Southee.

Well I don't bowl so unfortunately can't bowl like Southee. And I'd never even think of trying to bat in the slightest way similar to Aaron Redmond, I'm considered by past team mates to be in the Jamie How mould, though obviously not as good. So maybe I'll make 14 tommorow and get cleaned up by their pace bowler.simon_hampton2008-11-21 19:02:42

Aww come on mate everyone rolls the arm over sometime or other even just as a frustrating part timer.

Time for me to state the obvious again and say we can't let Symonds dominate in this last hour of play.

Last time I bowled I got hit for 20 off two overs against the worst school in the grades 8 and 9 batsmen. Not surprisingly, I haven't bowled since.

So who is the bigger wicket right now, I'm thinking Symonds but Katich seems to be right on top of the attack at the moment.

Symonds could take this away from us in an hour, he is the big wicket

Great stuff. Was tied up removing a lizard that the f**king cat caught so I missed the wicket. Yes very big wicket, if we get Katich and I don't rate Watson or Haddin as batsmen then we are a long way to knocking them over.

Well your story of missing a wicket sure beats mine simon. I was in the john and returned to see Watson on his way back with the score at 6/115. Brilliant stuff!!

Are we on top at the moment? I think we are, just though. Think we will see a result one way or the other tomorrow

Yep, gotta get the completely out-of-sorts Haddin out now. Aussie infront by 189, all they need is another 70 and we're pretty much out of it.

I think 280 is our upper limit, below 250 and I would be confidentish. 250-280 and its becoming a battle

We're in it, but judging by the way the pitch is the playing coupled with the fact we can't bat for toffee and i'd say no we're not on top yet. Another great days test cricket though.

All set for an absolute stunner of a day tommorrow. If we're not batting by lunch I think the game will be gone. I'd say the days honours are shared, perhaps Aussie won it just.

Yep, something like that and I'll be sorted. I just don't want to miss any of the action tommorrow.

Nah, 130s, think Southee will get faster as he gets a bit older. He has some bulking up to do

What will actually happen:

New Zealand cricket will (already have) put him in and out of the side for a few years, denting his confidence. He'll spend time playing on dodgy slow NZ pitches and then expect to play on bouncy Aussie wickets or dust bowls in Asia. He'll develop all sorts of strains and stress fractures, go through re-hab and play one in every 3 test series. They will then decide he needs to change his action to help his longevity in the game and coach all the flair out. He'll trundle down medium pacers just like 239 other New Zealand bowlers. They'll do scientific studies on his bowling action trying to modify it constanty so his action is "perfect".

Meanwhile Sri Lanka, Aussie and Pakistan all find a young whipper snapper that can bowl quick. they'll play them regardless of form as they see potential. They'll fire down grenades at 150kph, scaring the life out of opposition for 10 years. None of them suffer injuries due to constant playing on decent wickets around the world and coaches leave them alone as toying with their action will wreck their career.

Well i said yesterday that we were facing our biggest hour of test cricket in a long time, thanks to our bowlers we are now facing our most important day in test cricket in a long time. We have a real chance, god i pray and hope today is day our batsmen find the ability to concentrate for long periods of time

well what i reckon a multi at the tab blackcaps and kiwis to wn that would be paying  a bit id say we need to have them out for 250 run lead

Lunch and we're around 280 behind. Gonna be a real battle now regardless of what we're chasing from here. Next session could see the match slip away from us if we aren't careful.

Finally bowled them out. Need 327 to win. Can't see us getting it but you never know if we get a good start maybe just maybe we can pull it off.

Was just thinking the same. How out 0.

Permalink Permalink

Which is virtually the same as 2 down cos Redmond is as good as gone. If anyone was out would prefer Redmond then we could get on with it. Now we have to endure watching him play and miss

I was going to say we need an opening stand of at least 100. Hopefull now we get within 50 runs, Ryder needs big runs and if Redmond fails, then his test career goes down the toilet, if it hasn't already.

Can we have another opening batsman?
Permalink Permalink
over 17 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

Ok, Redmond is genuinly sh*t and I don't even know why he ever made the Blackcaps. FC average of only 31, 7 centuries in 136 innings against our FC bowlers. Thats not International quality. And a test average of only 17 backs that up. Fulton for Redmond 2nd test. And I wish Styris hadn't retired from tests, why the f**k did Bracewell drop him last summer.

36/2 at tea. Our two best batsmen at the crease, they better score big.

It's like they are looking for the next Wright or Edgar. Bell isn't that so he's out. Next please.

I thought Redmond looked alrite today, until he got out that is. Fulton is coming home to play first class before the Adelaide game so I think we will see the same team play, unless they pick Patel but who do you drop? When it comes to Southee i wonder about his mental and physical toughness- in his first test took the 5for and then nothing in the 2nd and similar happened this test. Wouldn't surprise me to see Patel play infront of him. Playing Elliot and not using him as a bowler confuses me, why not play Fulton as a specialist batsman. We dont have to have an allrounder and in effect Jesse became that with his bowling efforts.
