What disappoints me most is the lack of any real contribution from some of our so-called senior players and some hard to fathom selections.

McCullum bats like he has the brain of a pea and his petulant walk back after going out suggests he is the only person in the world who didn't think he was plum LBW. Oram has the heart of a pea when he needs to knuckle down and graft he shrinks. Living off reputations, time to shake the tree and start having to earn your spot through on field performances.

McGlashan in for McCullum, Oram given the sword let's see some backbone.

What on earth is Broom doing in the team? where was Nathan McCullum or Patel? Is Franklin injured or does his face not fit with the "senior players".

If I didn't love cricket so much there would be the danger watching these guys would turn me off it!

To make the McCullum situation even more farcical, early this week I heard a prominent coach who is attatched to the New Zealand set-up spitting nails over how screwed Brendon McCullum is because he's so concerned about hitting the ball hard he's forgotten what is needed to do that. Said most of the Otago team is going the same way because they're practicing so much for the champions league.

My understanding is that they didn't pick Franklin as it was in the sub-continent and he is mud when the ball doesn't move.  In saying that I would have him in front of broom with both bat and ball.

Problem is they wont get the money unless they actually play cricket.

Not loving Brendon McCullum at the moment.    But he'll probably make a good captain after Vettori.

on another note, i hope the Firebirds can get Tendulkar to play a few seasons once he retires, 44 one day hundreds in incredible!  I'm curious to see how Owais Shah does here.

McCullum is not a good captain at all, seriously. He was a complete disaster against India at the start of the year, his bowling choices made little sense.

I didn't get access to watch that series.  Oh well.  Who is our vice captain at the moment?  isn't it McCullum?
Permalink Permalink

Sure is. I can see where you're coming from. But he needs to be comfortable with his own game before he should be considered for captaincy.

Conspiracy theory that McCullum and Oram playing so bad for black caps to ensure they get dropped and receive their "no objection certificate" from NZC so they can go and earn the IPL big bucks!

They haven't figured out that the selectors are too lame to drop them.

McCullum has been uninspiring as captain whenever he's stood in.

McCullum is on a huge downward slope. He will lose his IPL contract unless he takes the time to learn how to bat again.

He captained his IPL team too didn't he?? He must have won a few as captain thus my brain has decided he must have the goods for captaincy.

Stephen Fleming struggled also with his batting and captaincy. he was a good captain. our best.
Curly Page wins best name though!

You mean the IPL side which came bottom of the table and were dreadful?

Which is about all he has at the moment, sadly.

The Warriors are actually a First-Class side that represent Border and Eastern Province. Its like being beaten by an Australian state side.
Permalink Permalink

I would be dissapointed if we went and lost to an Australian State side. And the last 7 wickets falling for 27 is just shocking against any team.

We have not beaten an Australian state side in quite a while. It is disappointing.

Hell I've missed so much, what in blazes is "HRV" Cup.  Is it not the state league anymore?

Glad to see the Black Caps getting a win before the champions trophy.    Finally the top order fire.

State don't sponsor cricket anymore.

HRV sponsors T20.

Someone tell me the point of the champions trophy?
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
Fair enough. Though I'm surprised they haven't made it a T20 tournament.

Then they could have the Champions Trophy every 4th year and The World T20 every 2 years. All they'd have to do is turn the CWC into a T20 comp and it would be T20 all round.

I'm sure they'd make more money.

Parnell to Guptill, OUT, Parnell ends Guptill's stay, the batsman went for his favourite pull shot, doesn't get enough on it and the ball loops to a waiting Amla at deep square leg

Now 3 wickets in the POWER PLAY and limping to the end?

Fell short by 13 balls.

Can he get to 200 strike rate? I reckon.
