Don't see us playing Bangladesh a lot - don't think they'll stay here beyond the first week of January. We usually get only about 3 ODIs in January, so don't think it'll be any different this season.

Doesn't leave much room for a test or two? Or is it just an ODI series?

Think 2 tests, 3 ODIs. Guessing tests in December, and ODIs late December/early January.

Ironic seeing Bond, Tuffey and Butler all sitting under the umbrellas. 5 or 6 years ago that was the bowling lineup that with Vetorri could have taken us places. Fuking injuries! If only aye....

And so Jacob Oram, one of the cleanest hitters this country has ever produced gets out trying to play a dinky reverse paddle! WTF!

and none of them are at their best but still close to the best we have. shows where nz cricket is at. when those three were in the team a few years ago we were much stronger.

marto batting now, some entertainment finally!

For. f**k. Sake.

Sorry, I used to be one of the people who said Jacob Oram is a good player and even though he keeps getting injured he's worth keeping in the team.

But not anymore, sick of the unintellegent batting, getting to 20 then getting out.

You have O'brien and Martin as your partners and your the cleanest hitter in your side, Do you:

a) Try and hit the ball for 6 or 4 knowing full well the batsman at the otherend won't last long and so try and cash in well they are there

or

b) play a frigin reverse sweep in the frigin subcontinent to a spin bowler....

this test match is testing my loyalty. so bloody predictable. our test cricket is truly awful at the moment.

I know our bowlers aren't great but they work f**king hard.  It must f**k them off terribly to work that hard on a pretty dead pitch and then watch our top order just throw their wickets away cheaply.  There is nothing wrong with bowling sides out for around 400 in the first innings in the sub continent, should be enough to be very competitive, but apparently not. aitkenmike2009-08-29 19:23:03

what would we do without Vettori?  Think he was our top run scorer for the 2 test series.  Doesn't say much for the specialist batsman!

I can't be bothered looking it up, but when was the last time we won a test match? let alone a series?

England in Hamilton me thinks, the two test series with the Windies over the Summer was drawn. If that tour to Bangladesh was last year then it was then but against real opposition it was England in Hamilton

Not including the useless Bangladesh.

Last test match won. 2008 vs England in Hamilton.

Last test series won. 2006 vs West Indies at home.

Last test series won away. 2002 vs West Indies.

Grim reading.

Three for me, and two for them.

Season schedule out, gutted we lost a 3rd test v Aus but at least there is only one v the Bangas. But why we have scheduled a test for Dunedin in December I do not know, ideally we wouldn't play test matches in NZ until Feb me thinks but I guess we have to so I shall lump it.

Two tests for Welly is good value, looking forward to seeing the Pakis in December then the big one in March. That Aussie series will be a good gauge of how far we have come I think.

An ODI against the mighty Bangladesh and a T20 against the Ockers for CHCH.

Most Sh*thouse schedule ever.

And why do Auckland get 2 ODI's against the Ockers yet the South Island get none.

F**ked off. F**k you NZ cricket.

Something to do with AMI Stadium having very very limited capacity due to reconstruction? I know Eden Park is in the same boat but I think they still have a pretty decent capacity...

And get your Council to develop Haglee Park into a test venue

AMI still has a good 20k capacity. While its not huge its not tiny either.

There have been plans to redevelop all 3 of our grounds (Qe2, Hagley Park and Lincoln). I've heard rumours Lincoln is the most likely but who knows what this shambles will do.

Perhaps it has something to do with us getting the U19 world cup off Kenya.

Still f**ked off. I want a test match.

Has anyone been following the greatest NZ 11 of all time on Cricinfo? Looking at the list of middle order batsmen, I wish we could just skip openers and get straight into them. Some decent names there. J R and J F Reid, Sutcliffe, Donnely, Jones, Crowe, Fleming, Astle, McMillan (what the f**k is he doing there?). I think I might be missing one but they'd do me!

Not sure about MacMillan myself.

Bowlers, surely must be headed by Hadlee??

Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
Not there yet.

From the nominations so far I would have:
Sutcliffe
Richardson
Flemming
Crowe
J R Reid

No Donnelly? No Wright? Interesting, I would have Wright, Sutcliffe, Donnely, Crowe, J R Reid and just to finish off the team; Smith, Cairns, Vettori, Hadlee, Bond, and one of the old school quicks... Maybe Motz but im thinking a left armer would mix the attack up nicely

For what It's worth:

1) Richardson
2) Wright (Yes the score would be 8/0 at the end of day 1 lol)
3) Sucliffe
4) Crowe
5) Reid
6) Astle
7) Smith
8) Vettori
9) Hadlee
10) Bond
11) Fast Bowler - like bop, struggling to chose who.

A bit batsman heavy but Astle can bowl.

For the rules Cricinfo have for this all-time XI thing you need an All-Rounder, so drop Smith, Vettori, Hadlee and Bond down one, put in C Cairns.

I forgot Turner in my team, he opens with Sutcliffe

Vettori is an all rounder.

Might be worth having Vettori as the spinner because he is so far and away our best spinner which opens up the spot to pick Cairns or someone as an allrounder.

Paulinho had a decent thought this morning, J R Reid could be your all rounder and that way you could get Fleming into that Middle Order aswell

Hadlee would likely be able to be picked as an all rounder as well, however our dearth of true quality pace bowlers will probably slot in to one of the bowling slots.

I'm tossing up between Turner and Richardson, its a tough call, but Richardson's test wicket gives him the nod for now.
