2nd ball and they are already cocking it up
"just angling down leg there". It hit him outside off and was missing off!

what gets me with Ryder, is he has the skills, just the attitude lets him down

What gets me with our whole top 5 is they have the skills, but poor shot selection lets them down over and over and over again

Interesting stat on cricinfo. Since 1st Jan 2007 Vettori averages 40.0 and Ponting 39.4

Now that is certainly a criticism I can agree with.

How do they never learn from it though?

Three for me, and two for them.

This sounds trite, but I think it is true. Steady T20 diet.

I assume muscle memory plays a big role in making split second decisions (e.g. shot selection) and players are conditioned to have a swipe outside off these days.

Another factor would be a lack of discipline.

Seriously, how f**ked are we when Vettori finally retires?

Vettori

What a knock.

Three for me, and two for them.

At least he has taken us near a competitive total. If we can get to 300 we will have runs in the bank.

Needless. A ton would have really helped his legacy too

Yeah, he'll barely be remembered at all now.

Three for me, and two for them.

A ton v Aus is one of the biggest accomplishments in cricket, he would have loved it, would have helped his batting record. But he's def at least the 3rd best kiwi cricketer ever

Young is a very average batsman, real liability at 8

Reece Young is absolutely terrible.

Since Baz won't keep - De Boorder? van Wyk? McGlashan? Will be a bit unfair on Watling making him keep and open so not including a part-time keeper

we need Dougie to hang around awhile

The only way him and Tim know how to bat is slogging so I'd advise them not to hang around for a while. Quick runs probably best bet

Not sure I would pass judgement on him yet. Decent first class record.

I don't think getting out to that shot and that ball is the worst thing in the world.

I'm happy to give him the summer and see where he gets to at the end of it. Plus the fact I'm not sure anyone is really banging down the door at First Class level. Unless they can turn Waitling into a test quality wicketkeeper.

De Boorder averages 42, averaged 67 last season. Seems like banging on the door to me

He eligible?
I'll answer that myself, yes.

Then yeah, he is. But I would still give Young the summer and see where we get to.

My view of Young is based on more than just this innings - he's a very, very limited batsman even by NZ first-class standards, and his keeping is not really that great to justify his place in the team as the specialist keeper (and this is an outdated concept in modern cricket anyway).

He's basically a younger version of Robbie Hart.

280 is an ok score at the Gabba, but I can't see our bowling attack getting Aus out for less than that. hope I am wrong though

Shame we couldn't get to 300, good fightback but the first session probably lost us this test.
