I reckon woodcock is a better test player than odi's, he is a good batsman. The declaring behind bit will be seen more now, with no first innings pts available people will be wanting targets to chase.

Also, I agree on two test series. That Aus v SA series should have been a 5 test series, seems like that privilege only goes to the Ashes these days.

Everything starts with India, they haven't played a 5 test series in years.

Woodcock is better with the bat in the long form than the short form but his bowling goes the other way, which is what he's been selected in the national side for.

It's pretty clear that T20 has pushed out those extra test matches. T20s and ODIs = more bums on seats. Sad but true.

I actually find that T20s have lessened my enjoyment of ODIs.

All the rule changes to make the game 'better' has taken away from ODI's in my eyes. In the future it wouldn't surprise me, if ODI's disappear and we just have tests & T20 games for internationals.

If it meant more test matches I'd be sad,but prefer it to the current situation.

Ideally T20s would die a horrible death. But that's never going to happen.

I'm amped for the upcoming week on Plunket Shield at my home ground of Seddon, 4 full days of watching cricket, then I realised I actually find t20's boring in comparision. I don't think many will agree

I do, I cannot think of a more boring version of cricket than T20.

It is the work of the devil.

I would put watching T20 on par with watching paint dry, grass grow, or Aston Villa.

Three for me, and two for them.

Hay come on mate...

I wouldn't say T20 is the most boring thing ever personally but it is not the way the game is meant to be played and it's sad to see it's popularity grow and as for the people only being drawn cricket in that form - plastic cricket fans perhaps?

You get paid for that though. If i could get paid to watch T20 i could grin and bear it too.Buffon II2011-11-23 21:35:09

That's probably got something to do with it. There is satisfaction in being part of it. Still fails in comparison to being involved in test matches though.

Yeah it was fun when it first came out and it was just a bit of a one off hit and giggle before the real cricket started.

Now it's the main part of every tour, and is played at the detriment of test cricket. It's turned upside down.

Players are also tailoring their game to just be able to hit the ball farther, and the art of batting is gone. It makes sense for them to do this as that is where all the big money in the game is now.

It's just not cricket.

yea remember one of the first T20 internationals when our guys dressed up in the beige and it was all just a bit of a laugh.

Didn't one of the Marshall brothers pull out a full on affro for it? That was class. But they got spanked by the aussies and looked a bit silly in the end from memory.

McCullum hit 146 off 115 balls against Aussie A

I heard the Aussie A bowler Cutting said that he regularly got wickets against NSW and he couldt see the NZ batters being any better so was expecting to have a decent game.

His figures so far are 7  0  41  0 going for 5.85 an over.

Doug Bracewell getting a few runs, and Chris Martin just hit a four. Wonder if it was through his favourite part of the ground (through the slips cordon).

Harris, Watson, Johnson, Cummins and Marsh out for the first test

Out of that lot, they only really miss Watson hugely.

Well from what Cummins showed in the first test I'd have to disagree. Watson is out of form anyway, and losing 3 front-line bowlers, 2 of which have had huge success v us in the past, and replacing them with bowlers from Aussie A who got smacked around by us, has to be a blow

If we can bat for a day at a time + we could be in with a shout.

In other news I snuck in a game of T20 this afternoon (second game in two years) and took 4 wickets for five runs off three. Time to move aside Tommy.

What do you bowl?

I always bowled leg spin in reps but it's too hard to get it back after a long time off so just bowl medium pace now. A lot easier to hit the right areas/land it on the pitch.

ryder 175 with 16 6s, must be close to a world record, i think andrew symonds hit around 16 about 15 years ago when he got 250 odd in county cricket

Yup, December 1. I'll be watching ND but hope to get some form of coverage for the game, I don't think we'll win, but could push them close with some good batting

The worry is always having to get 20 wickets

I can see us getting a good first innings total, Aussies matching us or doing slightly better, followed by a complete collapse in our second innings followed by an easy Australia victory.

That is Indeed the usual script that the bookies give us.

Yeah I can see that happening but I would like to think our top/middle order is in the best shape it's been since Astle and Flemming retired. The bowling is definately the worry but hopefully the aussies are off a bit and we bowl good enough.

That's why we need 4 bowlers I reckon. I can't see 3 seamers - 1 who is past it, Vettori, an average part-timer and two awful part-timers getting us the 20 wickets

There's a bit of talk going around about possibly dropping Vettori if the pitch suits seamers like they're saying it will.

Yeah well it's that or give Brownlie his chance. I can't really see them dropping Vettori but four seamers seams the logical way to go for me.
