Ross Taylor has revealed that he and coach Mike Hesson were at odds over who should captain the Black Caps if Taylor and Brendon McCullum were absent.

The situation threatened to happen on the recent tour of Sri Lanka in the second ODI when McCullum was injured and Taylor had been hit by a vomiting bug.

Taylor wanted Kane Williamson to run the cutter while Hesson wanted Brendon McCullum's brother Nathan in charge.

LOLZ!  TL/Bopman, looks like your boy Kane isn't an option either as long as Hesson is around.  If your name isn't McCullum your just not captaincy material!

Nathan McCullum?!?!?!? He barely even captains Otago. I wasn't really buying the whole biased thing, but if this is true....

What's next, Jimmy Neesham T20 captain?

This is NZC you are talking about, so probably.

Three for me, and two for them.

Where was Nate when Kane captained them in the Windies?

McCullum didn't play in the first ODI, injured maybe? So Kane was probably left in charge after that.

And now I think about it, Wright had the team then so of course it was Kane.

Lol - I just assumed you knew that Hesson was in charge again so didn't even think about it being Wright!  You made me go into cricinfo, find the match he was captain, look at the team list...

Well I'm sure he's determined to show the selectors he has something to offer in the middle order. How many people do you get going to four dayers in Wellington btw, would it beat the 25 or so who turn up in Hamilton?

Gillespie in for Milne...

Terrible decision. I can understand blooding expensive youngsters like Milne and McClenaghan in T20 but Gillespie is terrible at T20s, it's another showing of the NZ selectors thinking "If he's good at one format he's good at them all".

If the roles were reversed for a test match everyone would be mad but since it's T20 and nobody cares then it's been ignored, I don't care about t20s but I do care about our selectors making right decisions

Decent turn out for the last two days at Karori Park. I think that's quite largely to do with it being a novelty for the locals and the good weather. At the Basin the crowds would usually be about that, 25 or so, with maybe a few more showing up after work. If the game is going well combined with good weather and Black caps playing we see a few more in.

Has anyone been using the new (ish?) feature on www.blackcaps.co.nz? While on the live scoring page click on the wicket description, for example - "c L Ronchi b JEC Franklin" and a video of the wicket plays. Pretty sweet for people who can't get down to watch.

I knew they were offering it but haven't been looking. Might go back and have a look at the wickets Milne and McLennaghan have taken this year.

I think I read you can get footage of boundaries as well? Ryder innings may be worth a look.

Yep sorry and the boundaries too, click on the number of boundaries in the batsmen's column under "4s" and "6s"..

Didn't even know about it, will definitely have a look.

It's a great initiative but I keep ruining it by talking over the video, poor Corey Anderson had his first 100 ruined by the press box berating the fieldsman who dropped a clanger.

Just listened to another interview that mentioned this and i'm still just absolutely bamboozled by this.  Ian Smith and Nathan Rarere were both just silent for about 3 seconds when this was mentioned (they asked who he saw as vice captain), then followed by a long 'riiiiiiiigghhht.'

Bellerive keeping low already in first over.  Not sure if it is due to the pitch or the fact that Kulasakera is slower than Franklin.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White has poured cold water on rumours that fast bowler Tim Southee is set to be made Black Caps vice-captain.

Speculation was rife on radio and social media yesterday that the 24-year-old medium-pace bowler would be named new skipper Brendon McCullum's deputy for the South African tour.

Yet White told the Sunday Star-Times he was unaware of the rumours, and that a decision on who would be the Black Caps vice-captain was yet to be made - or even if one would be appointed at all.

"That's the first I've heard of it," White said.

Surely not.  I don't take much from White saying he hasn't heard of it as he also says he had no clue about Taylor being sacked while in SL, so obviously he isn't kept in the loop about this sort of unimportant stuff.

Tim is hardly vice-captaincy material..... Almost every other player is a more viable candidate. Kane is surely the way to go.

That would be another unbelievable move by Hesson and co.

Big game tomorrow at Karori Park, quite a few of the test squad playing. Looking forward to it but shame the weather is meant to pack in on Tuesday.

Firbirds have done the full 180 in a week. I was with them in the sheds on thursday when they celebrated a good win over CD and today you wouldn't have wanted to be within 100m of the changing room, in fact that's about how far I was from them and what I could hear wasn't good.
