Not gonna slate Patel for that. Hanging around for a couple runs wasn't gonna help us. Least he tried to get some quick runs, and it took a great catch to get him.

I disagree a little.  IMO if you are a tail ender and you are batting with an actual batsman (or as close as one can get while wearing a silver fern) your job is simply to stick around and give him the opportunity to score runs.  While there is a batsman their, throwing away your wicket is not helping the team in any way.  If he was batting with Bracewell/other tailender I would agree with you.

A term very loosely used when referring to New Zealand batsmen of course.

Hence the parenthesis!
To be honest, I forgot it was Flynn at the other end at the time.

I am sick already of hearing about 'aggressive', of 'positive' or 'playing our natural game'.  I want to hear 'we are going to be gritty', 'fight', 'make the fielding side work', 'determination' and 'valuing our wicket'.  I think I will remain dissapointed under the current leadership.

I actually welled up a bit when I turned on the TV and saw this disgraceful, shameful spectacle. With the NZ cricket team you think it can't get worse and it always does.

I will be able to cope with this if McCullum comes out tonight and apologises to the fans. Admits that it was embarassing and not at all good enough. Then promises his captaincy that nothing like this will ever happen again.

Its the kind of performance that if we had away fans there the players should compensate them.

Pathetic and depressing.

I actually think it can't get worse than the days play we have just witnessed.

That said, I now look forward to us getting bowled out for 27 with great anticipation.

Three for me, and two for them.

I was laughed at when I said I'd take 250 as a respectable total, how much I wish for 250 now.....

I was thinking more like 25. This team has the capability to break a certain longstanding record.

Yeah we will probably get over 100, I would guess 107 all out, with Chris Martin not out again ;)

I think the bean counters will want a day 3 at least. Any chance of rain unjustly saving us?

LOL, 4 days of rain would be the biggest robbery in the history of test cricket.

Even 45 all out in a 20/20 match would be a disgrace, let alone a test match.

Have had a look at Cape Town weather-- unfortunately no rain for a long time.

Even with the way Sri Lanka have been going, at least we have that test match to watch to keep us cricket fans happy for now.

Bring on the ashes.

If you could be so kind as to take a massive "Hesson Out" banner along and place it view of the cameras, it would be much appreciated.

Did you see the one at the Central Coast game before xmas? Was at the opposite end to the YF but same side, in view of the cameras.
I did, but i'd very much like to see it again.

Concur.

In fact, is there anyone at the tennis who could do this as well? Might as well target all major events happening in NZ in the near future while he still has a job.

So keen for this to happen!

I'm keen for someone to put one up the old light tower at the Basin. Can't exactly do it myself.

Actually, self-banning ourselves from test cricket for a while, Zimbabwe stylez, wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.

Heard a classic today.A guy said he was disapointed SA didnt declare after they had scored 150.He reckons it could have been the first test match to be over in a day.LOL

Not as bad as when we lost to England in the 50's ( no I don't remember)  and were bowled out for 26.

I know they are 250-3, but surely at the start of a new day on a rain refreshed pitch you have to back your bowlers with more that 1 slip and a gully.  If early wickets aren't taken they will cruise to 500.  Surely you give the bowlers half a session, or even half an hour to attack and see what they can do with the fresh start. The main reason I didn't want McCullum to be captain is that in the past when he was captain he has actually been to defensive with his field placings, and Taylor much more consistently aggressive.  Further evidence provided today.

As I type this, Boult has just bowled Peterson.  Hopefully this spurs McCullum into attacking.

NB: I also like Shane Bonds brutal realism in his assessment of yesterdays play (effectively pitch was fine, SA was good, we were shit), combined with a hopeful optimism of answering 'where to from here' with ' bowl them out for 350, score 500 and defend 200!

Edit: Nope, still one slip, one gully.  Aggressive (reckless) when its innapropriate, defensive when we need to attack.
