I watched it on the Internet. 1.54.35, which I think is an NZ record (?).

I watched some of the white water kayaking last night. The commentator is fantastic.

You're right - he was absolutely magnificent.

Have to agree, he actually had me interested in the competition. Especially when the Togolese guy went and was in gold medal position for about half the race.

Three for me, and two for them.

I flicked channels (was watching discovery) and got the final lap. I'm on Saturn cable TV. They're livid on Newstalk ZB. "I came home from work early to watch it" etc etc. Glad I'm missing most of it, every now and them I take a glimpse and it seems to be a lot of repeating going on.

Whats with the presenters? Dont they know what to do with their hands?  They looks very nervous despite years of experience. Makes me think there isn't a representitive of the Red Army behind the camera man pointing a cocked & loaded AK47 at them in case they say something that might upset the Peoples Republican Army.

Drysdale came 3rd in the semi final, but I am hoping that was because he eased off the pace at the end to conserve energy.  He was even with the geezer who beat him last year with 500 meters to go, but just managed to scrape into 3rd place to qualify for the final

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

for f**ks sake, our double sculls team (considered hot favourites for gold) have scrapped into the final in 3rd place as well.  We were creamed by the aussies.

Looks like the mens football team will be the only gold we are going to win.

The volunteers were very efficient with the wee screens to cover it all up. How about somebody just helps the poor guy?

But yes, OUCH !!

Has anyone noticed that a whole bunch of commentators are still referring to Czechoslovakia? I mean, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have been separate countries for 15 years. That's 4 Summer Olympics. Get your facts straight farken.

I'm looking at you John McBeth...

... and if one more person says "for a nation of our size we punch above our weight" or similar...
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

for a ntion of its size Togo puches well above its weight . Seiously though for us to statistaclly do better than Togo we need to pull in 45 medals. 1 in 4 of their athletes has a medal, are we likely to get that????? Doubtful!

0 gold, 0 silver, 0 bronze = 0.

We can only improve! Still 10 days of a junket trip to go! Hopes resting on the rowers to get us above Togo.
