Can't wait for Wednesday night. He will murder Michael Johnson's record if he wants to.

Three for me, and two for them.

I read somewhere that one of the american papers is talking up the battle between nz and aus for most medals per head of pop. we are in 3rd and oz 2nd apparently, my maths tells me that for every 4ish medals they win if we win 1 its about equal. happy for someone to correct me.

and lg saying that is all our medals? you are having a laugh mate, team pursuit tonight, bmx, one or two sailing crews, triathalon, maybe hockey( would take a big win against germany) and kayaking, could be four or five medals left in this for us which would be a good performancebopman2008-08-18 11:37:58

No way are we getting a medal in hockey. Sailing outside shots. I'd say 2-3 more at the most.

Forgot about the team persuit.

Did you know in the 1920 Olympics they actually had a Tug O War event!

"Hi there, what did you win your gold medal in?" "In the Tug O War mate" "Oh?"

Qualifying times faster than Australia, still holding something in the tank, these new suits are something no other team has. Roulston with a night to recover.
I wouldn't write them off at all. and that info is coming from someone in the team, they are supremly supremly confident

It ain't the bad acting.

I heard on radio that the Americans are saying that they're on top of the medal count because they have more in total, where as China is ahead on gold.  I seem to remember from all the other Olympics that it's the number of golds that count.

Junket trip for most of participants. Most struggling to pass the qualifying requirements. When was the last time Beatrice won anything? Why could Todd stay retired and give a fresh face a chance, likewise the wind surfer. I just hope they don't ruin the spirit of the haka by performing it at other second. It's meant to be something special and loses it when it's thrashed like at the last games.

A couple of things
1) beatrice pulled out because she hadn't been performing up to standard lately

Hey Bopman, Beatrice did participate and failed in the qualifying round. I understand a certain Radio NZ Commentator said her throws were pathetic at best. So I hope Beatrice enjoys her junket.

The one medal standout for me, was the bronze a certain rower won. On talkback a caller said, if you drilled a hole in his bronze medal, you would have found it full of gold. I reckon that caller had it spot on. he might have finished 3rd but he is a true champion, a true winner with a brilliant attitude. Mahe Drysdale, you are an awesome olympian.

Completely agree. Apparently he was on a drip the night before his race, and I think I may have heard the commentary say that he was vomiting before his final as well. Tremendous dedication really.

If only "others" gave as much for their country at the Olympics! Total dedication and desire to be the best. Bit like our shot-put hero who incidently scored our first gold for how many years?? Beat that Frisbie Thrower!

Great ride by the pursuit boys, with such a young team they will be a force for a few years to come. Look for big things from them in London! Bewley, 21, Sergeant 20, and the two guys who didnt race in the final are 20 and 22 aswell i believe.
Would be great to see Rouly pick up another medal in the Madison tonight. If he does he would vey quickly become leading contender for sportsman of the year

So good to watch the guys win that cycling bronze over the Aussies last night. Honest to god it's painful being in Oz watching the Olympics. People who criticise TVNZ have got no idea how badly Channel 7 do the coverage: the bias and nationalism is just vomit inducing.

Example: after showing all Oz's rowing races the other day, then the full repeats, then the medal ceremonies, then the interviews, then the slow mo montages of triumphant fist-pumping Aussies, they condescended to show the LAST 30 SECONDS of the NZ twins' gold medal win, not even sticking round to give the official confirmation of the result. w**kers.

The only real bright spot was was when they cut to the yachting to glory in another Aussie gold as the Oz boat closed in on the finish line....only to see it capsize 200 yards out. Oh how I laughed!

Great effort from Ashley and nice to see Ben Fouhy took some time out from slitting his wrists to qualify for the final!
Did anyone see the BMX today? Qualifying was pretty dull but those races in the mens qf were awesome!
