It was a Mickey Mouse competition... until we won it !

Is still is - the format was appalling.

speaking of Mickey Mouse - the Kangaroos just got belted by 14 points and the first two awards were handed out to Darren Lockyer for M.O.M. who I didn't see in the second half and Billy Slater for Man of the Series after he set up Benji Marshall Brilliantly and turned the match our way.

Were these decided on Friday so they could get the medals engraved before 5pm closing time?

We are on a winning roll, the All Whites have drawn against, Iraq, South Africa and Spain in the group stage of the Confederation Cup as well. Yesterday must be our lucky day? Lets hope it is a lucky weekend.

Gangsta, we have won softball world cups in the last 10 years. Absolutely amazing, just a wonderful night. Lockyer droping it over the line was the turning point but we played so well. I loved Sterlos comment towards the end, "there are 11 black caps who suddenly think 184 runs are more gettable". Just truly truly amazing, I think the key to come out of league victories this year is that Peter Leitch can't be in the country for big games, in Croatia for the Melbourne game and in Hawaii today. Sorry Butch! Cant wait to hear Allen Mac on the radio, those kind of guys are the ones you feel happiest for

Problem is the black caps left to get 184 are Taylor, Vettori, Southee, O'brien and Mills. If the 11 think they can do it then the other 6 should have pulled finger yesterday. Good luck

I'm not upset that NZ won - nor that my 'roos lost. It's great for the game of league, and I love seeing the underdog win, even at Australia's expense. I'm upset that this particular Kiwis team won.

The team that played on the day deserved to beat us - I'll give you that. And we (Australia) played like a team that didn't deserve to win.

But correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Roy Asotasi admit that the 58-0 loss to Australia was the result of the Kiwis refusing to play to their best ability in order to get Gary Kemble sacked? In doing so, insult the entire concept of international sport, and effectively spit on anyone who has ever played league for NZ, merely for some pathetic little grudge?

Perhaps I've gotten the wrong end of the stick or something, as I can't find anything online that backs this up, but that's what I remember being reported at the time. Frankly, I hope I'm wrong, because a team like that doesn't deserve to compete for the World Cup, let alone hold it.

I dont think that was the case Rob, they didn't like Kemble but I have never heard anything like that reported.
I think the fact that only a year ago we got beaten like that and got humiliated in England shows the respect these guys feel for the jersey and the respect they have for it.

can't imagine any of these guys purposely losing to the Aussies, or any match for that matter. kearney wouldnn't let them! he was seriously pissed at the boys for how they played in that first match.

I don't think many people thought gary kemble was the best selection after bluey left tbh
oh and  Benji marshall wasn't part of that team in fact i think only two or three players from that game in wgtn  were involved in the world cup final Jeremy Smith,Sam Rapira & Simon Mannering, did you have breakfast with ricki stuart and his consipriacy crew the better team one it's a 1 game final not a three match series

Completely agree that the team who played the best on the day won. Never said otherwise. Full credit to NZ - on the day, the Kiwis deserved to win, and we deserved to lose, I'm not disputing that and never have (at least not from an on-field perspective). And I highly doubt there was any conspiracy involved - I have no time for Ricky Stuart at the moment. Also agree Kemble wasn't the right man for the job, but the way the Kiwis went about getting him sacked was classless - be it based off what I heard, or what I can still find (ie Asotasi going to the media about it)

All I was saying that, if what I remember hearing was correct, the team who put on that pathetic performance here last year don't deserve to have even competed in the world cup, let alone get the chance to put the jersey back on. I sincerely hope I heard wrong, and also that you were correct in saying that very few of the 58-0 crew were involved at the final.

Fair call Robb,
its a pity all Aussies can't put together a logical, reasoned arguement......
