Shaving

For the extreme shaving file...or alternatively, file under masochistic shaver/ shaving nick roulette/ parsimonious twat probably fits too..;-)

When I wrote in this thread in March last year it coincided with a change in employment circumstances -(working with a startup company for nothing!)  and less face to face or customer facing time than past roles so less shaving required.

I started a new Gillette Fusion blade around the start of March 2012 and set about seeing how long I could make it last.Instead of needing to shave daily, I would average 3 shaves a week so reduced the need but R-E-A-L-L-Y stretched  the blade life to the extreme!

It finally crapped out a fortnight ago when the blue lubrication strip fell off. The blade had given up having to deal with my bristle and threw in the towel, " Enough insanity!!" it would have cried out...  and my skin in unison would have yelled "Praise be!!"  had it also had the means of doing so.

Almost a perfect year of shaving I thought was pretty bloody impressive for any blade to go that distance..(probably at least 3 months too long, to be fair, given the uneven quality of the shave.. but I was pushing it!) I just kept drying it after every shave and IMPORTANTLY every one of those shaves was just with water...no shaving oil, no soap, no foam.

Less satisfying was purchasing the replacement..went for the same blade ..BLOODY HELL!! ..the prices for new blades is outrageous! $34+ for a pack of 4..I just bought a single blade and new razor.Might get 6 months out of it...at a snip.       ;-)

Two pages and not a mention of wet shaving with a double edge safety razor? I swear by my NZ made Goodfella. $95 but totally worth it. You can get something decent starting around the $60 mark too with other brands. Blades are $30 for $100.

Gillette and the rest aren't only inferior. They are the ink cartridge scam of the 21st century.

Just got a good fella and its freaking amazing.

Cant remember if I've posted this before but here goes.

I read an article in the independent awhile ago warning of the dangers of veet hair removal cream. Some men had used it to remove hair from the pubic region and It damaged blokes testicles - permanently. It caused intense agony, changed the color and the shape of the testicles and apart from minor surgery to relieve pain the damage was permanent leading to the loss of sex drive mainly due to agony.

I mean it stands to reason, something that melts hair is not going to be a nice chemical is it?

I avoid Shick like the plague. Thay can tell me it will shave and elephants nuts baby smooth and I still would not touch it. Very poor razors. in the shower, hot water soft skin, no cuts. Gillette 5 blade to the fore.

I am intrigued more about this Goodfella....

Jeff, did you find somewhere in Welly?  Fort, where do you go?

Thinking the MoVember effort may need some TLC that the old 3 blade is just not fine enough for.

I have not been yet, but I noticed  the Barber on the Corner of Cuba St / Caro Drive had a window sign offering Hot Shaves when I drove past the other day. Anyone tried it out yet? Might have to give them a go when I next go for haircut.

Not got around to it either, but most trained barbers can do a proper shave. I'll check with t John or Chris at the Barbershop http://thebarbershop.net.nz/ when I go back in a couple of weeks. John used to be Micheal J Fox's stuntman on The Frighteners and is a very funny bloke.

Might treat myself for my birthday.

Bought this the other day and I've only used it twice, so far it is a very close and pleasant shave. Dunno what it's going to be like when the blade gets manky, but nice if you have sensitive skin.

Apologies for giank king kong size picture.

Used to be a Mac 3 man but tried a Schick 3 blader. The blade lasted for about 3 months before needing to be changed. Most impressed how well it lasted. Took me a year to use a four pack. Recently bought a 5 blade pack by mistake and it shaves well enough too.

Have a cutless somewhere that my Grandfather owned. Must try it one day.

I've had a gutfull of the Gilette ripoff - I agree with LG, Mach 3's were the biz but they're almost disposables now, especially when you factor in what they try and rip you for blades!

Time for a change.

I think I've said as much on this thread before and agree that the Mach 3 was the last great razor.

How about this for us Bigfoots? Anyone use or would use???

Apparently after reading the reviews it's pretty good, (particularly the German one), I'm not a particularly hairy back man myself but I could see the advantage rather than that stuff that melts your hair.

Anyhow I was practicing for Movember today, as I've grown about 3-4 days worth of bead, and was going for a homage to The Artist and it's star Jean Dujardin, (bit of manlove there), but I tell you with these friggin multi-blade razors it's going to be very tricky to pull this off.

I'm going to need something a bit more precise.

Adam Ant's  recent look has a take on this. I'm just bored of the Chopper Look that I do every year.  Anyone know where you can get a real cut-throat razor?
