New season, new betting thread.
I had a couple of quid yesterday on Rangers drawing and have gone big (by my pathetic standards) today by putting 10 on Celtic to beat the Hibbees @ 1.44.  It will nearly pay off the 5 that I put on India winning the test against England on Friday morning when I was drunk.

easy win for Celtic, and even India are looking like they could win the cricket.  This could all work out.

There is some scotch football today, but Rangers have been mince so far this season, and 1.44 for them to win at St Johnstone is not good value.  That only leaves pre-season which I hate betting on, but needs must.....

Arsenal are playing Boca Juniors this afternoon in the only competition they can realistically win this season, and are paying 1.44.  From memory, the Phoenix beat Boca Juniors this time last year, so Arsenal should do the same.  Better value is Arsenal -1 to win @ 2.05, so I am putting 5 on that.

In the other game, Henry is back at the Arsenal and bound to scoring, so am putting a couple of quid on that to happen @ 2.87

Final bet is in the Chelsea vs Villa game somewhere in Asia, and Torres cost be a load of money last season, but I am going to continue to throw dirty money after dirty money and put 3 on him to score @ 2.20

So Vettel seems to be turning to custard, so back to football and the hit and miss-ness of preseason.  In the early games, I have PSG to beat Boca Jnrs (2 @ 2.50) and Gary Hooper to score first for Celtic against the Airtricity XI (2 e/w @ 4.50)

first (proper) game of the season, so the betting in earnest starts here.

Hull vs Blackpool first up and I fancy Hull to win this.  Pearson is a good manager and will be better for for having a full year with them.  Blackpool have lost three of their best players from last season - Adams, the DJ and the little welsh fella whose name has just escaped me - and I can see struggling.  I had a sneaky feeling I should go under 2.5 goals as everyone thinks Blackpool will be the same swashbuckling, all out entertainment machines they were last season, but I don't think that will be the case due to the above mentioned losses.
Hull to win - 4 @ 2.37

Man City to beat Man Utd? $3.20 is a pretty good price.

Also, Aberdeen @ $9.00 to beat Celtic is decent, particularly when the game is in Aberdeen.

It is good to see AFC Wimbledon in the league again, but I fancy Bristol Rovers to be too good for them - 4 @ 3.20

Was going to chuck a couple of quid on Wood to score for the Brummies, but William Hill not showing odds - maybe not signed in time to play.

Just back home and checking the results - not a bad afternoon.  Bristol Rovers win was decent, and the multi wasn't too far off (although that doesn't give you any money) with 3 wins and 3 draws from the 6 wins I tried to pick, although I needed 4 correct results.
Southampton vs Leeds on this evening and I am really looking forward to it - should be a cracker.  Always want Leeds to win, so will put 3 on that happening @ 3.60.  Can also see there being a few goals in this, so going to cover myself a bit by putting 2 w/e on Rickie Lambert to score first @ 6.00.  If anyone is going to score for the Saints, it will be him.

yes - when you make all your selections, the bottom of the bet slip has all the different type of bets you can make - yankee, double, four-fold, etc.  That is where you enter your stake.

Today I have 4 on City to beat Utd in the charity shield @ 3.10.  I will put a bet on the West Ham vs Cardiff game at the ground

Actually just realised that Cardiff have lost both of their strikers from last season (Boothroyd and Chopra) so put 3 on West Ham to win to nil @ 3.00.  Also chucked a cheeky 2 on our Winnoe to score at any stage @ 17

not many, hence the thread title.  I am more in it for the fun than the profit.

Bets for tomorrow morning?????  Some kids in Streathem will have smashed up a Currys, a photographer will have been beaten up for his camera in Hackney, a large fire will have happened in Croydon and there will be some footage of some little scroat in a hoodie screaming about "da polis avin it in fa him" when they try to arrest him when he was innocently smashing up a Tesco's .  Going for a multiplier with 10 @ 1.01

Lucky those boring Oirish and Croats kept my account alive to live another day.  The bestest league in the world ever kicks off in part tomorrow (me, jealous my time isn't in there?  Never!), so this is where I am throwing my wad:

Backdoor Sluts 9

In terms of bets, here are my key bets for the weekend- odds to be put up later when I have access to a betting website:

Newcastle vs Arsenal - Arsenal have had a torrid pre-season, and do not seem to have many players actually fit for this game, with Fabregas, Nasri, Wilshire and Walcott all out.  Having said that, I think that they will win this, and all the negetive publicity that they have received will push the odds up.  Newcastle are in a terrible state, having lost all their players and although I think that they will survive, will be lucky to finish above 15th this season. Arsenal to win - 3 @ 2.15

Wigan vs Norwich - teams promoted to the premiership always do well in their first game - West Ham beat Blackburn 3-1 when they came up a few seasons back, while Blackpool thumped Wigan last season.  Fact proven!  Wigan have lost N'Zogbia and current greatest player in the world Tom Cleverly from last season, and have another season of struggle ahead of them (interesting fact - for all the circle-jerking about Cleverly at the moment, he is a player who only started 2/3's of the games he was available for Wigan last season).  Lambert is a top manager in the making, and I fancy Norwich to do similar to Hull and Blackpool over the last couple of seasons - start well, fade later.  I am hoping if this is correct, we will have another episode of a drunken Delia Smith of the pitch around March.  Norwich to win 3 @ 3.40

Doncaster vs West Ham - A real northern battle here, with Doncaster vs Bolton 2006.  Winston Reid to score at anytime (usually 17) - 2 @ 17

And I have just noticed that Cheltenham vs Swindon is back on.  With everyone's favourite fascist in charge, Swindon should be everyone's second team this season.  Swindon to win 3 @ 2.05Frankie Mac2011-08-13 05:40:20

Worst day gambling ever.  But that is the great thing at being sh*t at something and not realising it, you are always ready to go again.

I am not convinced by Chelsea for this season - I think it will all turn to custurd with AVB in charge.  Stoke are a consolidated premier league team now, and should be sharp after a couple of tough, competitive games in the UEFA Cup under their belts.  Always a difficult place to go, I don't think Chelsea will be able to win at the Brittania, so the Stoke (Draw no bet) odds of 3.40 are decent, and I will be putting 5 on that.

Utd vs West Brom - meh.  United will win, but the odds are sh*t (1.57) so I will just hope for goals - over 3.5 goals 3 @ 3.00

Yesterday I got an email from the TAB about their current promo for the world cup, put a $10 bet on a AB pool game online, and you will get a $20 free bet. Looking at the T&C it looks a good deal, doesn't mention anything about minimum odds for the bets or needing to cycle the money a certain amount of times before you can take it out.

As I see it, put $10 on All Blacks HT/FT against Tonga @ $1.01, gain 10c and a $20 free bet (as long as the AB's don't screw up), then put the $20 free bet on another game with a $1.01 option, and walk away with $20 free.
