Allegedly
i think people would hate him even if he didn't dislike the Phoenix. I have friends that don't like the Phoenix, but i don't want them to go to jail. And fall from grace implies some embarrassing moment/s - or getting fat and useless like Elvis, not wifebeating.
I'd say he's a puppet but at the risk of being called racist I'll call him a muppet instead.

"Here's $100 000. Keep it quiet....."
Don't think any of the options are quite on the mark for me...as the horror outweights the delight significantly. HarryHotspur2008-07-14 10:05:28
Hardley a fall from grace, he beat his ex girlfriend to the point of breaking her back, then claimed he didn't know that he'd injured her so badly, and then paid her $100k+ to keep it quiet....... joe public would have been jailed, him no he just gets dragged therough the papers. I don't feel bad for enjoying his downfall, he's a negative annoying little sh*t, never has anything positive to say about anything, football or otherwise!
Queenslander 3x a year.
The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!
No matter how you try to spin this, and have a crack at those who are appalled at his behaviour for venting their anger and dismay, you can't seriously be trying to support him based on people here not liking him for his inability to report positively on anything football.....
Take a look at yourself man.....Tony Veitch is a criminal and gutless FOOKIN coward!!!

I'm pretty happy to examine my shortcomings, in fact I do it regularly. I'm even happy to say that I have cracked a girl's rib once, completely by accident. But not, like Vietch, in a fit of rage, with intent to cause pain.

The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!
ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH
1) what vietch did is horrendous, i in no way condone him beating a woman and i think he will be punished as the police see fit in accordance with law and with precedent
2) i believe he shouldn't lose his job, i think he may struggle to do either of his jobs well because he just lacks credibility. ie how can anyone interviewee (say jimmy cowan) take him seriously when he is trying to push him into a corner but if the police charge him then i think he will. would not suprise me at all to see him reappear on the sports news sometime over summer when no-one is really watching
3) i think the media coverage has been poor, its very quickly became about one upmanship rather than reporting a story. it seems like there is a pretty clear divide between tvnz-nzherald/tv3-dom post.
4) the gutless comments i made last week were in regard to people commenting on here but being unwiling to voice there opinion to t***er who was going to challenge you on your opinions, but i apologise to anyone who took my gutless comments as a personal afront
5) and my comment earlier in this thread i still stand by but if read properly it is in no way condoning his action. i believe that many people on here have enjoyed his fall more because of the perception that he likes to undermine the nix
6) if anyone wants to talk about this further buy me a beer at the bencher on sunday and we'll chat because really thats what this whole forums about, supporting the boys and come sunday thats what we will all be doingbopman2008-07-15 10:24:14

It's not just about Veitch's credibility, but also TVNZ's. The latter would lose a lot of face if they retained them. TVNZ might have to let him go if only to save their own arse. Otherwise they'll become known as the network that doesn't mind if its employees engage in domestic abuse. This could result in the public boycotting TVNZ, advertisers pulling funding, content providers refusing to deal with TVNZ, and perhaps lower government funding.
That being said, he should lose his job IMHO - He's a public figurehead. For the sheer sake of accountability he should be sacked. Though as far as I'm concerned, he shouldn't be able to continue working for TVNZ for the sheer sake that Mt Eden Prison doesn't have a television studio.

The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!
The continuing media frenzy over the Tony Veitch affair has left me uneasy, even faintly nauseated. When journalists turn on one of their own with the ferocity of jackals tearing at the throat of a wounded pack member, I'm glad I'm out of the game full-time.
Now Garth George knows how the rest of us feel with the type of journalism that has become common place. Veitch has experienced the media spotlight and it is a shame a few others within the media don't also get a taste. They might realise how lucky they are at reporting on others and not being reported on.The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!

Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.
