Greg Inglis arrested for bashing his missus, been stood down indefinitely. LOL at the NRL being unable find a poster boy for this code and it's cancerous culture of yobbo-ness. kiwi pie2009-08-11 12:39:08

Is there a more influential and freakish player in any of the football codes in Australia at the moment than Jarred Hayne?

Ah those were the days.

opening myself up for intensive ridicule but..i have been an Eels fan since the heyday of the 80's when some of my family moved to West Sydney and sent back Parraphenailia of that great championship side- Grothe snr, Stirlo,  Ray Price, Wynn- man, what a team

Every year since they seem to flatter to deceive- getting into the top eight, having a brief flourish and then capitulating like a wet fish. so i am wary of getting too excited by the Eels grand final push.

On the other hand knowing that they will likely bow out soon i want to savour every moment like its the last (and hey, only 6 teams are still in the karmichael*)

SO...... after that long rant- any other Parra fans out there? anyone keen on shlepping along to Bar Edward, Newtown or similar on Friday night to watch the Eels either capitulate or bowl over the Titans in the Qtr final?

I'm not an Eels fan but I kinda hope they will win it, I figure if they are going to Jarred Hayne will have to do some more ridiculous stuff. He is truly a freak to watch, absolutely spectacular player.

love nrl this time of season

two great games on the weekend

Four teams left.

Eels vs.Bulldogs- the Bandaged bear derby, and one of the great NRL finals rivalries

Storm vs. Broncos- two of the most suiccesful clubs in the modeern competition, and seen as infiltrators into NRL's traditional NSW heartland.

My pick is an Eels v Storm final, with the Eels to pick up their first premiership since 1986

Surely NRL is one of the most physically demanding club competitions in the world, in any code?

So the Dragons are massive massive bottlers then right?

Three for me, and two for them.

20 Sep 23:32 · edited 09 Sep 05:26
only the second minor premiers  (after Bulldogs in 93 i think ) in recent history to go out in 'straight sets'

that is lose both play off games- so yes bottled it, but man they came up against a rampant eels and then had to go to Suncorp and its rabid Broncos fans.

So, it's gonna be Captain Mainwaring to lead the Warriors or should they be known as the Home guard??

could be a good thing- he was identified early as a future captain, perhaps a year in charge with Price to help him in the background will really help his development.

yea im guessing this will be prices last season and they wanted the new captain to overlap a season with him. that will be crucial to mannerings ability to captain further.

only time will tell

Saw a steve price interview. he said he was surprised when they told him he was no longer captain but that once they explained it to him he understood. he also said he thought mannering was a great pick. no word yet from luck, he must be feeling pretty shafted. he captained the squad a fair but last season whilst price was injured, maybe management didnt think he did a good enough job. i wonder if he will be vice captain.

mannering told price he didnt want him to change the way he talked to the team but pricey was saying maybe he needs quiet down a bit.

Maybe the Warriors want to change Price's name to Corporal Jones?

i see clinton toopi is having a trial at the titans after his union career didnt really take off with the mighty BOP
01 Dec 23:21 · edited 09 Sep 05:26
Too much quality for him to break through there my down syndromed friend, will be interesting to see how he goes there. The Titans have lacked real potency in the outsides since their birth so if he can find some form he will certainly add another dimension to what is already a decent side.

Jeremy Latimore from the Eels but I hope they bench him for a game or two (for his own sake) - Look what happened top Kemp when they expected him to be God's gift.

Some guy Maloney from the Storm - Less talent they have the better

Brett Seymour - If he can keep off the piss, he will be a great asset.

Hopefully they sort the halves out.

Hopefully:

1. McKinnon
2. Locke
3. Ropati
4. Tate
5. Vatuvei
6. Seymour - Interchanging with Hohaia as long as Mackinnon is fit)
7. Moon
8. Rapira
9. Henderson
10. Price - Swap with Packer at 40 and 60 minutes
11. Mannering (c)
12. Matalino (vc)
13. Luck

Bench

Heremaia
Packer (see Price)
Hohaia (in 1, 9, 6 or 7)
Johnson (from NYC '09 - magician on the field but needs some experience)
Latimore (new signing from the Eels) Use as utility forward/back up vatuvei if he can hndle catching a high ball)
Taylor (NYC Captain) - in case Moon or Seymour F*^# out)
Ta'ai

Not the team I dreamt of winning it last year, but bloody strong all the same.

How do we get Terry to organise a Warriors / Phoenix Off season friendly double header?

yea i think brett seymore could do good things if he behaves himself

Think we may be in trouble this season, but I hope I'm as wrong as when I thought we would have a title challenging outfit last year. Think Shaun Johnson could be a key, he's had a full off season to beef up and work on his defence, I know thats what he was told to do coming from a touch football background.

Never been a big Seymour fan, hoping he proves me wrong big time. Just about ready for the league season though, always a good way to get through the Nix offseason.

Seconded.

Also hearing that Warriors are in talks with Kristan Inu. Could be interesting.

Yeah, the young guys are the future, probelm is they get too big too fast, by the time they are leaderhip style, they are worth too much for us to keep.

It is well worth it, did it a fair few times when I was living up in Hamilton with Downey, its a great sport to watch end on, you see all the footwork and movement that looks a lot like they're just running in a straight line on the telly. Crowd gets into it nicely as well, nothing on a Nix game but at least there's an atmosphere unlike yawn rugby.
