Is it called something like 'The Swim Shop'? If so, it's target market is probably competitive swimmers, not casual swimmers, so the demand doesn't fade during the winter months.

"A famous elderly Australian entertainer arrested and questioned by Scotland Yard detectives in London on suspicion of sexual offences has still not been named. The high-profile Australian, aged 82, who now lives in Berkshire, south east England, was interviewed for several hours by police before being released on bail about 11.30pm local time, Australian media are reporting."

Can you guess who it is yet?

Prior to moving back to Phoenix-town and following the best stripey team in the Southern Hemisphere, I kept up with most sports, and NZ teams.

Just looked at the sports quizz in today's DP and the only question i got correct was the one about the Millwall fans chant (i.e. 1 out of 10).

You didn't recognise the Beaver? And you obviously haven't been reading any of the threads about how wonderful the Breakers owners are, and so much better than Welnix.

Stupid service at KFC. Had a group of 20 or so people wander in, hand their cash to someone ahead of me and then they kept adding more and more orders as people came & went because the girl was a friend/family. Spent 15 mins being next in line.

 Luis Suarez got off lightly

Joseph Romanos wrote this piece in The Wellingtonian. Have I missed something? The opening para says "Weak football officials have helped to create the problem child of football, Liverpool's Luis Suarez.". Does the rest of the article address that?  Hmm...

REminds me: When I was in London I  complained HIGHER UP to a company. I wrote to each of the five company directors. None of them talked to each other and I got five vouchers each for forty pounds. All vouchers came with different letters of apology. Excellent.

Got this from Footpaul's herald updates

"A warm-up jog around the pitch is enough to tell me I'm nowhere near my peak. My legs are dead. As the game kicks off I ponder briefly about being a drugs cheat, but I'm more concerned with the leaden state of my legs."

So now I know I've been chugging down the peptides for the last 20+ years.

Soccer parents told to stop the go, go go!

Parents at Eastern Suburbs Soccer Club, Kohimarama, have received an email from their coach, former All White Billy Harris, asking them to refrain from yelling on the sidelines when their children, aged 5 to 9, play. Some think it is over the top. In the email Harris said children enjoyed themselves more if mum and dad kept quiet on the sideline. "Even 'positive' support is negative," he said. "If your child gets the ball and you yell 'go, go go!' this will hype them up, whereas what we want is for them to stay calm and relaxed so they can attempt their skills. If you cheer when they kick the ball a long way down the field, they'll think they've done something good. They haven't," he said. "Big kicks are the enemy of learning to dribble and pass the ball," he added. "To improve kids' learning, professional clubs overseas are putting a ban on parents watching the game from the sideline. The parents stand well back from the field, and if they yell out anything they are asked to leave (with their child). The parents watch quietly, just as they would if they went to their child's school to observe them learning in the classroom or playing in the orchestra."

Control. Freak.

Parents should be allowed to positively support their children and their children's team.

Are we going to call all our football grounds the Effemirates Library now?

It is all this "YAAAAAAY, LITTLE BILLY KICKED THE BALL, ISN'T HE AMAZING?" bullshit that is creating a society of spoilt wankers who demand admiration for completing even the simpliest tasks.

Is the yelling really benefiting the kids?  No.  Does cheering for no reason make parents think that they are doing a great job of raising their kids?  Probably.  Seems to me the cheering is more for the parents self esteem than any help to the kids.

We cannot have it both ways - we want our country to concentrate on producing technically skilled footballers, but we also want to be pleased as punch cause our kid is the biggest in the team, and capable of booting the ball further than most others his (or her) age.
