Tigers sympathize with JonoNewton

The welfare of animals at London zoo is being put at risk by drunken visitors at its Friday night parties, including one incident in which a man poured beer over a tiger before being thrown out by staff.

Another incident this month saw a man strip off and attempt to enter the penguin pool, forcing staff to intervene. There are also unconfirmed reports that a drunken woman tried to enter the lion enclosure in June.

Sources at the zoo have raised serious concerns about the impact on animals’ sleep and stress levels from the lucrative Zoo Lates sessions, which are advertised as an “after party with the animals”.

The world’s oldest zoo has been hosting sessions on Friday night for several years to attract a younger demographic, generating £800,000 a year to fund its prestigious and pioneering conservation work.

Sources told the Guardian that staff concerns about the events have been raised with management. “If an animal escaped [on a Zoo Late], it would be catastrophic,” said one person with knowledge of the zoo’s workings. “During the day, welfare and conservation is of the utmost priority. In the evening, that seems to go out of the window, and the animals become a commodity. That’s not what zoos are about, but there’s a lot of money in it.”

London zoo confirmed the tiger and penguin incidents, but said there was no record of the story of a woman trying to enter the lion enclosure. The zoo also said that two years ago, snakes had to be moved from a glass enclosure after the glass was cracked by a group on a night out. The snakes did not escape.

London Zoo really knows how to treat it's Tigers. If they are not letting cubs drown in ponds they are letting idiots chuck beer at them. The real tragedy  is that the zoo has to pull this sh*t to fund it's conservation projects.

So where did the tiger go afterwards?  A bit hard as it seems the tiger did nothing wrong?

Idiots of the day award.

1) Running along noticed a guy driving his car, mug, (a proper mug not one of these coffee holders), in one hand and he was bent over looking for something in his glove box or trying to put on the heating, etc. Not looking where he was going at all driving in the middle of the road.

2) A bunch of runners about 6 running along the Pukerua Bay side of Airlie,  taking up half the road. All in dark clothes not one with a head light. It was still really dark. Cars come around really quickly on the blind corners just stupid.

7 idiots all before 07:00am.

Something that pissed me off was the rugby mad NZ Herald having a headline 'where are the fans" (read - sneer at football) when 20,000 turn out to Eden Park on a cold mid-week winter's night to watch a Wellington A League side play a struggling EPL team.

I understand the Blues often get well below that attendance, despite all the hype and publicity. And they're planning on moving the local rugby cup competition out of Eden Park because they're only averaging crowds of about 4,000.

The Herald is notorious for its rugby focus so I guess they couldn't resist having a dig at football.

Typical thugby, racing and beer twats that still think "soccer is for poofters" type of idiots. Iveseen the blues on TV where there's appeared to be more players than fans in the ground and recently as the last two years on occassions. I'd love to know how many travelling faitful went up to the midweek game in Auckland, probably match the usual Saturday crowd for a thugby match alone.

Discovering while you back is turned that your 3 year old gets his favourite matchbox car and drives it over your meant to be out of reach 55 inch LED tv adding scratch marks to the screen after he grabs a chair to assist himself. Well this has certainly put a dampner on my day and good mood.

People taking sides in the Israeli / Palestinian conflict like they're two football teams and not two factions that have been at war for decades.

Supporting either side, especially if you haven't done any research on it and are just being led by the media, is ridiculous.

It would be nice to receive an intelligent non biased piece on this issue but sadly, I believe it may never happen. Everyone is a victim. Gotta feel for the Lebonese, their country is being used as the playing field for every idiot with a gun.

8 weeks since playing a game of football.

Looking like rain all week, so a cancellation would make it 9 weeks.

Palestine and the Arab-Israeli Conflict by Charles D. Smith is a fantastic, objective account of the history of the conflict. Smith is a highly regarded professor of Middle Eastern Studies at Arizona State and analyses events and their causes without passing judgement on their morality. It has been substantially updated a couple of times since it was first published in the 80s (adding the second intifada, etc), so I'd reccomend getting a recent edition.

Interesting. I have been to Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq. When you are surrounded by countries that want to wipe you off the face of the earth you have to be tough. Yes some Israelis are arrogant, but so are some Kiwis, Poms etc.

The problem is that there are extremists on both sides and it is the majority of people that suffer.

Men's wallets

The way they spray credit, store cards etc everywhere if you a) open them without due care and attention or b) leave them in the bottom of a bag.

Bring back those long wallets my dad used to have in the 1970's. Proper wallets them.
