im a political junkie so the wall to wall coverage on fox from iowa and new hampshire has been magic. go on pick your nominees and your president for me its obama and romney
a week ago i would have said hillary and guiliani but have been very impressed with the other 2. if barck wins nh i think hell be hard to stop. romney seems the best of a bad bunch and he is the most presidential, guiliani will pay for his lack of interest in iowa and new hampshire and banking on the big states.
anyway those are my thoughts, think obama will win it. hes an amazing speaker, reading and listening to some of his speeches as november draws closer will be a real treat

Obama is ahead in the polls for N.H and looks likely to take it out 13% lead in most polls and first time he's taken a double digit lead, that would mean two defeats for Hilary ?  and more than likely mean she'll bow out of the race.

i disagree, i dont think shell bow out, too much money and energy in it. i think that may be her saving grace that she will be able to stick in to the end. the crying was interesting today. if edawrds takes a beating tommorow and a beating in michigan he might pull out and i think hell endorse obama

i don't think edwards will take such a beating, but, if it is close, it will make it more interesting to watch that's for sure.

The Democratic race has galvanised US. The top three democrats are everyones top three candidates overall. The voting figures for Democrats in New Hampshire is an all time record with voting papers running out halfway through the day.   Obama to win on crest from Iowa with Hilary second and Edwards third. None of these three will pull out.

Little real interest or affection for any republican candidates who are all seen as deeply flawed and not believable. McCain to win narrowly over Romney (but who really cares?).

Democrats will walk Nov election by a landslide.

Listening to the beeb yesterday following an elderly couple who have voted for the Democrats all their lives.  The wife said Hilary was "bought and paid for" and the husband said "cold single issue bitch".  I wonder if that is a general perception that she's an interest group junkie, a bit like Aunty Helen, and not that interested in the general population.

last i heard in most national polls clinton who was at the time the fron runner wasnt running that far ahead of guiliani nationally, whether guiliani can get the nomination is a different story though

Was talking about this the other day with "she who must be obeyed", totally agree, America is so more ready for a Black president than a woman leader. Watched on the news and there were all these middle class white americans backing Obhama. (Really odd scenes)

The Republican candidates scare me especially Romney. I can almost feel the CIA in him. "I can smell the uranium on your breath"

Shouldn't this thread be called the Brazilian elections because when a new President is found, there won't be any Bush in the White House.

If the Democrats are to win the election later this year I hope Obama is president and not Clinton, however, I'm supporting the Republicans and would like to see Huckabee as the next President.loyalgunner2008-01-13 00:05:13

The world cannot survive another Republican president. Those people are nuts! Which poor country will they want to invade next? From the debates it will probably be Mexico to stop illegal immigrants!!!

Clinton knows how to manage all the plutocrats - Obama is a generational change - either would do me.

I support the Republicans because I think they are more likely to at least try to stall the moral decay that is rampant in their country and in the western world. I'm not saying Democrat politicians aren't good at their jobs, it's just that a lot of them are not conservative enough.

In response to the last comment about Republican Presidents invading other countries, Presidents do have advisors who they get their information from, they don't just come to decisions by themselves, so they shouldn't be forced to take all the flak for the decisions that go wrong if their advisors are wrong (they should still take some responsibility though).loyalgunner2008-01-13 17:29:30

yes they should. theyre the ones who run for public office, presidents get advice, smart people listen to advice and choose the right advice to follow. so no blame should be placed on advisors just on the numbskulls who blindly follow everything one advisor says.

moral decay? republicans will stop it? really?

I didn't say the Republicans will stop it, but often they are more conservative than Democrats, and if the USA get a Republican President then hopefully (depending on the individual obviously) the President will try to slow down the moral decay.loyalgunner2008-01-13 18:44:09

can you explain to me what moral decay is? it sounds like a buzz campaign term, like change, hope that sorta stuff. i would have thought the more worrying traits coming from america are lying governments and feelings of self righteous moral superiority. all which has become more prevalent under a republican president

By moral decay I mean laws that I think are immoral, such as euthanasia, abortion etc.

euthanasia isnt federally legal, i dont even think its legal in any of the states

"moral decay" isn't going to be stopped by Republicans...and religion should be at least partially removed from politics in a democracy, otherwise you have a theocracy, which is a bit hypocritical coming from a governmnent so determined to democracise everyone

and a republican president cant do anything about laws in the states, nor can a president overturn a decision of the supreme court thus roe v wade stands as the law

The President can veto laws coming in, and the President can appoint people to the supreme court (correct me if I'm wrong on that).loyalgunner2008-01-13 23:49:08

do you know anything about how america was founded? individual liberties and freedom, the most important of which was the freedom to worship. these people are leaving europe where there freedom to worship who they chose was severely limited.
and in a pulral system the separation of church and state is paramount
a president can veto federal laws, not state laws which euthanasia is
