Im sure Peter Jackson would like a big statue of himself. And according to Kerry,if he likes the idea, then so does the whole of wellywood. So that seems like a winner.

Cheers Smithy. I'll find another link since there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it, so I'm guessing it's an anti-hotlink thing. Here's the original anyway:

Wellington Airport has backed down from a proposal to erect a "Wellywood" sign and is asking the public for alternative ideas.

The airport announced on March 8 that it would put a 28m-wide by 3.5m-high sign on steep hillside land it owns next to the Miramar cutting in June.

Good result cant wait to hear what the Mayor(Kerry no pals) has to say ,she was hung out to dry on this one with all her sychophants running for cover !!

As I've mentioned before  the Mayor insisted that the  Welcome to Nuclear Free Wellington sign that had been outside the airport for years be removed  claiming it was inappropriate  but supports this tacky publicity stunt!

Only thing wrong with that Jambo is that the sign is not accurate. Within Wellington there are two known, although small scale, nuclear reactors.

It's also pretty clever of them to split the non-wellywood vote by putting it up against 2 signs in the final vote. Just saying...

I dont really like either.

Anybody remember the proposal for the Giant fish hook aong the entrance to the motorway?
As far as I know its not going ahead now but that would have looked much better when passengers fly in and out of the airport. And who drive along that stretch of motorway

Mean. There was also an idea for the hook to be in the hillside where the sign is going to be. That wouldve been so much better than the options we have been given.

It is interesting to hear all the rhetoric about how creative our city is but there were no (from what I could see) creative people on the panel which chose the ideas. Sham.
