Chipped in from about 150 for the first Eagle of my life at Blenheim Golf Club yesterday. Was pretty stoked!
Thinking about getting myself handicapped. Suspect I'll shoot off something like a 25.
Do it Dan, you wont regret it!

There is a strokeplay tourney I'd like to enter in around a months time but I suspect I need to be 'capped so I guess that is motivation enough. Got a few lessons when i was working at the previously mentioned Golf resort and the guy there completely changed my swing, massively reducing a slicing tendacy I had. Reduced the distance I could hit the ball aswell though, but started to get that back over the last week or so.
You guys are REALLY making me want to take up golf. Just too expensive, since I need clubs and all.
Golf skipped a generation in our family.
I'm more of a watching-weeds-grow-in-my-garden athlete.

You can function on one kidney (assuming you still have 2!!!)

A little pissed off with myself today. May be being quite harsh on myself but shot an 84 (+12 Over) off the Black tees with 5 Double Bogeys!
One day soon everything will come together. I for one can't wait to shoot a number in the 70's again. I need one to come around in the near future purely to prove to myself that I am capable of playing this game!

If I thought I was pissed off last week then this week didn't make it better.
Shot 85 (+13 Over) off the Blue Tees with 2 Double Bogeys and a very stupid, careless Triple Bogey within the first 7 holes.
Makes it hard to shoot good numbers when you're chasing it from that point in your round. The statisticians on this forum will be pleased to know that I have started filling in a spreadsheet with all the stats from my rounds to look for any patterns, be they positive or negative, that may be occuring in my game. The thing that has stood out the most thus far is my inability to get off to a consistant start in my golf rounds. I am giving away too many shots early on!
Time to change the mental approach I think!

Shot a very respectable 48 yesterday, including three hole in ones, sadly I had a quadruple bogey, which really stuffed me up when I went into the water.
Still, I'm quite happy with my best round to date at Pirates Cove Golf & Country Club, Porirua.
We're the WELLINGTON Phoenix
And this is our Home

So after some careful analysis of my scores I have found out some relatively good news.
I have found that I am struggling to shoot good numbers consistantly on the 7 hardest holes on the course. Armed with this knowledge I will now be able to approach my subsequent rounds much differently

Found some half decent clubs. Have tentatively decided to join a club after the football season, and take advantage of student rates. Looking forward to it! Might have to hit the driving range etc before taking to the course though, its been about 10 years since my last round I think.
Nice work Mr Tegal.
Which club you looking to join?

Probably boulcott farm. It's close, and my dad is a member there too.

Great golf course!

Once again another mediocre experience on the golf course. Shot an 84 (+12 Over) I felt that I was striking the ball well today but just struggled to score well. Still having to cope with too many unneccessary double bogeys too. At this stage it looks like the Handicap will go out to 8 as of the end of the month unless I pull a decent round out of my arse next week.
Another week or two then it may be a weeks sabatical to clear the head

Took this week off from playing with a view to pushing on with an Open Polytechnic assignment that is due mid-April.
Will be back on the golf course for a practice round probably Wednesday...
Can't wait to see if there is any difference in my attitude towards the game next week...

Well, after a longer than expected hiatus I finally returned to the golf course after 3 weeks without any practice and lacking match fitness!
Conditions yesterday were horrendous with rain falling throughout the morning. I started the day with very low expectations on how I would fare but by the 18th hole I was more than pleased to sign for an 85 (+13 Over). Its funny what a break from the game and a change in playing conditions can do to your brain!!!
Also this week I found out that I was the lucky recipient of a fully paid round of golf for 4 people at the Kinloch Club on Lake Taupo.

I began my round yesterday morning inspired by my fellow Australians Jason Day, Mark Leishman and Adam Scott all performing well at the Masters at Augusta National.
I shot an 84 (+12 over) off the Black tees which was marred once again by a careless Triple Bogey and an avoidable Double Bogey.
I think I might need a visit to a Sports Psychologist :-)

Glad Adam Scott won. BMW: The Ultimate Driving Machine. Great player. Seems very humble for an OZ too, which is nice.
Another frustrating day on the golf course with silly mistakes again standing between me and a reasonable score.
Shot 84 (+12 Over) for the second consecutive week of the Black markers with 3 fucking Double Bogeys. Although my course handicap of 8 is safe for another fortnight it is creeping ever so close to 9 which is slightly disconcerting with Club Matchplay Championsips coming up at the end of May.
Maybe I might see what Steve Williams is up to over the next few weeks...

Regular visitors to this thread will know that I have been posting a few mediocre scores recently and that all along I have stated that too many of the dreaded Double Bogeys were making reasonable score cards turn into horrible ones, costing me too many strokes on the golf course.
Well folks, the straw finally broke the camels back yesterday. I am pleased to announce that after another two week break without hitting a ball in anger (if you don't include the 15 balls that I donated to Lake Taupo last weekend at the Lake Taupo Golf Challenge!) I returned to the golf course yesterday and signed my card for a score of 78 (+6 over par)!!!
I am very happy with my game yesterday which included 2 Birdies and no Double Bogeys not to mention that I missed a 10ft put for eagle by 2 inches!!! If there was a cup of tea and a gingernut within 100yds of the 18th Green yesterday I would have partied like Brian Blessed!!!
I have finally proven to myself that I can shoot sub 80 rounds again like I used to over 15yrs ago!
Am allowing myself a day or two of smugness as I feel they are deserved!

All I have to say about Saturdays round was it was fucking appauling golf!
Shot a very pathetic 87 (+15 Over) and am still furious with myself that I could not back up after my previous round of 78.

Slight improvements this week although my round could be summed up with the phrase "the one that got away".
This weeks round was a comfortable 83 (+11 Over) with two 3 putt bogeys on the back nine and a very lazy double bogey on the 18th.
83 could have, and arguably should have been as low as 80 if not 79.
In other news, I am a week away from my first match, and the Second Round of this years Club Championships (Matchplay Edition). I'm in the 2nd Round courtesy of a Bye in Round 1!

Club Championships (Matchplay) Round 2 this week and I can happily report tyhat I won my match 4 & 3 and shot a comfortable 82 (+10 Over) off the Black Tees to go with it!
The Quater Finals now beckon but I will have to wait up to 6 weeks for a chance to progress into the Semi Finals.
Happy Days!

What division C-Did? Intermediate Grade? Good luck. Get your name on the Honours Board...
Yeah Banzai, Intermediate.
Taking it one Round at a time! (dubious sports cliches FTW!!!)

After a month off golf for several reasons (illness, frost cancellations and just plain winter lethargy!) I finally returned to the golf course yesterday.
After a week filled with anticipation and very low expectaions on how the form may be after such a lay off from the game, I completed my round with an extremely mediocre 95 (+23 Over). Very few highlights and not the sort of first up score I was happy to settle for.
It left me pondering the idea of changing my surname to Baker-Finch!!!
Hopefully the form returns before sunday when I travel over to Taupo to take on the mighty Kinloch Golf Course for the first time...

That was one of the great wins by Mickelson at the British...virtually flawless back nine on one of the hardest (quite literally) courses imaginable...superb...
I rate Big Phil as a golfer and as a human. He's had to put up with contact watching Tiger dominate for so long and after being content with being an also ran for that period his patience is now paying dividends.

Apart from that he's alright!

Two weeks back at hastings and my golf has improved. Shot 80 (+8 Over) off the Blues last weekend and 82 (+10 Over) off the Blacks yesterday.
Also managed to win my 3rd Round Matchplay Club Champs match yesterday 2 & 1 which means I am now into the Semi-Final.
A big month of golf coming up in August with the Club Strokeplay Champs as well as my Matchplay Champs match at the end of the month. Exciting times ahead!!!
