Ron Mark is a good MP and I'll vote for him, the Labour clown here in rimutaka was the advisor to mallard when he closed those primary schools here in Upper Hutt. Swaine was a good MP but his replacement should not have recommended those school closures!
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Does anyone else think she should have spoken more as the PM than as the leader of the Labour party?

What happened to drunkenly stumbling out of your office and announcing the election date to the assembled media?

Apparently one of McGillicuddy Serious's 1990 election policies was to have the All Whites to win the World Cup ... pity they lost Leeds_Chris2008-09-15 17:07:58

I agree while the distinction is pretty fishy, she was announcing the election date. It wasn't a paid political broadcast. She got free air time was all that happened. Anyone else think it was very strange she went on so much about trust during the Peters thing, my political brain says talk up your record for a couple of weeks and then once the Peters thing is over bring up the trust issue

Is Michael Cullen the ultimate muppet? trying to say John Key worked at Merryl Lynch and look at what has happened to them thus he is not capable of running our economy.
Ummm Michael a couple of things
1) the crisis comes from credit and property, i would have hoped our finance minister understood the current situation
2) Key worked as a currency trader
The two not so much related. so much for Labour w**king on about how they were going to be the clean ones and expect the dirty tricks from National, however you watch the left jump and down the moment National tries something similar

To be fair, despite their claims of credibility and such, the Labour leadership are just as, and if not, more hypocritical than anyone else in Parliament. Including Winston Peters.

They're a tired government desperately fighting for survival and they'll do what they can to gain traction with the electorate. Like you pointed out bopman it was dirty and baseless but I predict we'll see much worse and probably from all sides.

Tonight was a chance to go and meet the candidates in the Hutt South electorate. (plus two from the Rimutaka electorate.)

Interesting night even if there was lots of same old same old.

Ron Mark, NZ First, came along. He seems to believe in child soldiers! Maybe I misunderstood. He objects to NZ signing up to a charter that keeps those of sixteen and seventeen year of age from the army. I think he felt it that an external body telling NZ what to do was not on.

The Progressives had a guy there called John Morrison (I think). Just a guy who had decided to stand for a minor party. Pretty shy but APPLAUSE to him for being motivated to stand.

The Libertarianz are barmy(ish). Let's make guns easier to get. All drug laws must go. Your are responsible for YOU.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Perhaps Mark sees it as a possibility of reducing the predicted unemployment increase over the next term...

"Can't findwork son? The army'll have ya!"

Or perhaps he sees a joint partnership between the army and the sketchy schools plus policy released by Labour.

"You want to stay in training 'til 18? I've got just the 2 year apprentiship for you, my son..."

He joined up when he was sixteen. "It did me the world of good..."

anyone else just watch that? while there are some good points being raised, helen and john just bickered most of them away. mark sainsbury should have taken more control of it, so they could actually frame a decent debate! a very good idea getting it online and available to the masses though.

What was up with Helens call regards shouting people down at home but you wont shout me down? Who was she digging at, really didnt get that. Key seemed fidgety on the maori seat issue, that really is the black hole of NZ politics.
And why on earth do we still care about whether someone was pro tour in 1981?

Can't agree with you on the Sainsbury call, and honest, it's not cos of your Arse connection.

This was the first time in several years that a National leader was not prepared to be overpowered by HC. Sainsbury recognised this and let it go on to see just how far Keys would go toe to toe (which as it seemed was pretty far).

well i read an interesting thing today about that lady turia from the maori party wanting to sort of scrap the dole, and having them work for a govt wage instead. saw it somewhere on stuff.

i was really happy to see that, especially from the maori party. i sort of hope the maori party becomes the king maker so that policy gets a decent go.

johnny still has my vote at this stage. that whole tax cut thing was a real desperation move helen, and as we all know, desperation is a stinky perfume.

wasn't it National who started there campaign with tax cuts????? Labour were always planning small cuts, oh joy! But National started their campaining with "We'll give the moeny back to the people" - I have a question for Mr Key - wheres the money now - Mr bright spark clearly didn't anticipate the credit crunch hitting the pockets of the people as it has or business whcih create the surplus we supposedly have........thats not so smart in my book. I still worry about him leading, he doesn't seem to really have any quality behind him.

Aslo If the Maori party are going to the polls with the scrap the dole I may just think about giving them a look.

I would never give a race-based party my vote.  Can you imagine the outrage if a white party was started?

well noone really anticipated the credit crunch or what it would do did they mate?

im saying that labour waited until right before the election to start tax cuts, last time round they used the 'free student loan' thing to buy votes now they're using the tax cuts. would've been more believeable if they were a few years earlier.

what i like about john key is he is a businessman (and a successful one) first and a politician second. helen is just a petty politician, albeit a very good one.

It's pretty obvious from recent National offerings that if you want a change of government, you should vote ACT.

That's all I have to say on the matter.
