Hey Tony,

Wondering if you would like to select a team for the novelty match. I'm still not sure whether to have a mixed team (Male & Female).

Otherwise, we just organise a team and I will organise from the participating communities another team for the match.

Hey Tayo if you need teams for a novelty game i challenged my dad to get some old central league mates of his to take on us guys in the Europe XI so if you need a spot to fill....

Thanks for this. It would be a great to see the U - 6 do some running. It's just a 30minutes game. Can we talk more on this on saturday? Maybe before your game.

holy sh*t

talk about drama

so sorry to kiwi bafana about the complete w**ker of a ref, what an absolute tool and what a crap way to be put out of the tournament! completely unnecessary by the ref to take the action of abandoning the game, was off his rocker to be honest as witnessed by both teams AND all spectators around. not cool at all.

on a side note, turkey, you left your kit at the ground, I have it with me, if someone has a contact for them please let me know otherwise I will just bring it along next saturday!!

Cleaned and folded I hope

Well after a 10 -1 win today we will be in the semi against Zimbabwe I think it is.

yeah monke'boy,
I was playing in the field next to your and our refree, who was a bit of a nutbag himself, stopped our game and said "wait, the refree is being attacked on the other field", and he ran off for a bit. Then he came back and the match continued. Which sucks because our second half was shocking.
We had the best first half I've ever seen, creating so many opportunities and completely outplaying the Police XI, who are by the way, pretty lame - to put it mildly.
Let's say they're far from being role models.
It must be the old kiwi way: I can kick your ass as much as I want, I can slide, tackle you from behind, throw in the elbows, but as soon as you tap my on the back I'll start crying like a little girl.

Well done Europe, anyway.

Hi Everyone,

What a dramatic way to end the round robin games last Saturday.

First, I had to fill in and official the Fiji vs. Oromo game. I must confess it wasn't an easy task, knowing full well it's one of the decisive games that will determine how the group will shape. All balls and calls were contested for by players and thankfully, the game ended on a friendly note.

Another decisive game was abandon because according to the Referee's report, one of the Kiwi Bafana players challenged the referee's call to send him off for a late tackle in the process hit the official twice (a definite No! No!!). For this reason, Kiwi Bafana lost on default to Sudan.

On a positive note; South Africa had their first win, a step up from last year performance. Also, the Lower Hutt Police World XI is stepping up with a second win against Europe XI.

Few upsets though; Somalia would not make this year's semis, they fell to Sunday Celtic by 2 goals to nil. Somalia is the only team participating in this year's tournament that did not make it to the semis.

Please note; at this stage of the tournament, teams can only use the players that feature in the last three games as recorded in the last 3 team sheet submitted.

In evaluating this year's tournament, please be aware that there will be a review meeting at the Activation office and all team Managers, Reps, and Coaches are invited.

You will all be advised accordingly.

Hi Maddy,

I will send you the Turkey contact by tomorrow. How about your team having a lucky run, just cruise to the semis, hey?

Scorers for UK Kiwi are wrong.  M Ryan hasnt scored and M Rennie should have the 3 goals that have been given to M Ryan, as he has scored 4 in total.

Looking at the goals scored by Zimbabwe it should be a high scoring game this weekend.  As both teams like to attack.

Yeah, feel a bit sorry for Kiwi Bafana, I saw the tackle but didn't actually see the guy hit the ref but was hard to see as so many players were grouped around the ref, most Kiwi Bafana trying to hold their mate, he shouldn't really have lost his temper like that, just should of taken the sending like a man and walked!!

The game was turning out to be nice and competitive as well, ref was very strict though right from the start, couldn't even challenge without him blowing it up!!

Looking forward to this weeks semi, looks like we will be able to defend the title now!!!

Cheers
Matt

how did your game go anyways bro?

Btw Tayo any chance of a few of us Europe XI boys gettng a runnaround in a novelty game?

We tryed talking to Pedro, he didn't want a bar of it hahaha, told us to go away, then went and talked to the ref. Yeah old fella with glasses, both teams were keen to go on, but no-one wanted to ref it and game was abandoned.

On a side note, another one in the Chopper nickname club, that one has stuck with me for a while now as well haha, I was getting confused reading those earlier posts thought someone was talking to me then was like huh??

We went down 2-1 after I gave us a 1nil lead. It was just friendly anyways. Result didnt really matter, just wanted to get on the piss hard. It was good to get a run around and out of goal, even if it was only half a game out field.
Im keen to play in that match too. Thats if im not playing paintball.

Only legends get that name!!!!

If there was any form of appeal on that kiwi bafana game, we could get 22 players plus the 20 or so crowd to go against the refs word.

The ref lied out of his teeth saying he got punched twice. But should of got punched twice for saying that.

This is not the only time he has made a mess of a game. He has a rep for it. I have played soccer in Wellington for 10 years, and have been in two abandoned games. Guess who was the ref for both..

This ref association should give him the boot, he is not fit to reffing any form of sport. I would be extremely suprised if he lasts another season.

p.s I forgot his name but he is medium height, grey hair, small circular sunglasses, and a bad temper.

He was the ref for our first game, and he had no idea of what was going on.  He would have to be the worst ref in Wellington.
Permalink Permalink

15minutes in he stops the game calls both captains over and tell's them that the game is getting to nasty and both teams need to start watching out and that soccer is just "friendly", jeepers it's a blimmin contact sport it's not tiddlywinks!!

i can't imagine the heart-attack he would of had if he had been reffing our game vs assyria!!

For sure man ive also had him before and most the time it's like he doesnt even want to be there.

perhaps it was time the refs association did take a look at the quality of thier refs

I'm shocked so many of you are bagging the referee,he was probably doing his best,no referee deserves to be assaulted no matter how bad,as Monkeyboy said the players wanted to continue but no wanted to referee, 20 or so people watching and not one willing to referee I wonder why? Pedro far from a good referee but does his best. The player should be banned the game doesn't this kind of A Hole
No wonder Capital Football is short of referees

I agree with Footy Watcher- it is hard enoguh getting refs to come along to tournies like this

Tayo did a great job getting them on board but Capital Football may think twice about helping out next year now.

All players must realise that this tournament is about the experience of mingling and misxing it with different cultures, having fun and respeticn each other- it is not the World Cup nor is it the A-league (Where i doubt you'd see behaviour like this)

Get off his back and get on with the game

Yes i agree with this and the other refs have done fine, however it is hard for two teams to enjoy the mingling of cultures when the man in charge does not seem interested in the same thing.
i also agree that the player should have taken the red like any decent player would have, i imagine we have all been wrongly carded in our time and to react like this is ridiculous.

Also thanks again Tayo good work with the tournie ay.

Footy watcher: We had numerous people wanting to volunteer to ref the game after, HOWEVER since Graeme made his call of abandoning the game, no matter if we played after Graemes call would still stand.

Salmon07: This is not about a bad call, or a bad refereeing decision. This is about a blatant lie and a certain someone that didnt want to be at the game. Which in turn did not allow us to have the experience of mingling, mixing and fun which this tournament was set for.

yea man tayo's done a great job it's been a fantastic tournie! yea if ya get a red just walk off but if ya a ref and you make a bad dission b a man about it dont freek out and destroy the tornie for others. he never got hit he just freeked when verbly challenged. myself and t.k were ready to ref the rest of the match 4 tayo but pedro made the dission the game was over maybe captial soccer should review mental health of refs on a yearly basis as football is the loser at the end of the day and now I don't get a chance to play and beat the kiwi bafana!

Well, i cannae comment on this particular incident- as i did not see it, just suggest that we are careful about bagging refs on this site- they do a tough job with little support and we need them-
yes they can ruin a game but a violent yob can ruin a career. I know who i'd rather have at my game-

the only thing I'm sad about is that the Europe XI boys won't be able to show you guys how to play some good footy. What a cursed first round. We played 3 awesome first halves and 3 dreadful second halves. Bloody fitness. Wish footy matches would only last 45'..then we would have beaten every team on the board..

oh well, next year.

Just so you know that Capital Football and Capital Soccer Referees are 2 separate entities. Capital Referees are the decision makers when it comes to allocating refs to games not Capital Football.
The usual Football politics are being tiptoed around since this is an unaffiliated event with unaffiliated players and teams. Such a great tournament though and who in the local Football fraternity wouldn't want to be involved? Tayo has done a great job again this year and I'm sure it will be better again next year.

Look who's fcken talking, mate !!! I told you a thousand times..you're not that much tall than me. Besides, if I had scored 3 of the 4 goals you scored, in the same fashion that you scored them, I would go hide myself! I mean, that poor West African Keeper, who had a seizure and left the ball there for you to tap in..I would have left the ball there and kept my honour intact!!

Moreover, your CAPTAIN ran like a mad-dog out there, never giving up and fighting until the end!!
