Thank goodness for Wakefield, 3rd week in a row we have manged to play there. The amount of games that have been able to be played because of this facility must surely get the Council fast tracking other pitches.

Big ups to the Council (& Island bay for chipping in)

IS there are cut off time for cancellations???

The big difference today is that all Junior soccer is off because of School holidays, therefore many more grounds are available.

I can't remember ever seeing an update after 10am.

Where on earth is Capital Football's logic? If they thought the grounds would cut up after last week, what do they think they will look like after today?

Moan when you don't play. Moan when you do.

Allegedly

The thing is is that it has been windy all week and there hasn't been much rain so that would have helped dry the pitches out a bit. I know ALex Moore 2 was looking ok on Thursday night so I suspect other pitches may have recovered slightly.

If councils are going to make calls based on Friday night/Saturday morning weather they make them by around 7.30. Absolutely impossible to do much after that, the body of information you would be trying to work with is to large for trying to do it on the hoof.

The facts are often it comes down to luck - if it starts hiffing down after 8am on a Saturday morning very little you can do about it. Just the way it crumbles.

The Junior thing will help immensely though!

Alex Moore 2 was one of the best pitches out today. Firm ground with only a few puddles. Council must have mowed it this week and it even looked like it was rolled, the pitch was decently flat.

Alex Moore 2 update complete.

Will be surprised if Kelburn Park gets any more games on it this season.

I would rather play the next three weeks or how ever many on sh*t pitches than no pitches at all.Stefan2011-07-23 19:11:05

Played in the 2nd game on Petone 2 yesterday and the pitch was best we have played on for weeks. The rain yesterday morning had no effect on it at all and as others have said a week of wind had obviously dried the pitches out.

Karori was terrible. No chance for our 230 game to even kick off. Hopefully the match gets replayed.

Miramar park had emergency tape around one pitch and the others weren't much better. We called our game off early and Miramar and Marist who were due to play after abandoned theirs. Had a laugh in the mud, Its a shame though because I think we ruined the pitch. Hard to believe that cap football thought two games could be played on that lake

Karori 2 had a Masters game on it at 12:30 that shouldn't have played and now its poos.

Played the 2:30 game at MacAlister 2 after being shifted there. There was no game before us but the pitch was already trashed. We played 30 mins each way.

At times I could not see my boots unless I was running as the mud and lakes were so extensive.

Not to bad so far then.

Another guaranteed game for us (U21s), 4th week in a row at Wakefield. Just hope it doesn't pee down like last Sunday.

Thats pretty sh*t. Will have to find a way to play on Sunday now. Given that we are cancelled.

To be fair, thought there be more cancellations than this. Guess it's that time of the season.

Does anyone know what state Naenae 1 is in?  Or likely to be in at this stage of the year?  Never played there before.
Permalink Permalink

Better than last year.

Hang on... the draw for this week, the only game on Naenae 1 is us and we're playing Seatoun who have been to Naenae in the last fortnight.

I coach a junior team.  Grade 13 JPL playing on Naenae 1 at 9, before you big buggars churn it up.
So will we be able to play our free flowing passing game on it?Stevel2011-08-01 14:09:16

Ah.  The last two years it's been a swamp with everything near the wicketblock and the wicketblock a stinking pool of mud.

There are still some issues with it being a bit soft around the block but it's about 100 times better than this time last year when it was effectively closed and was even used for Capital 1 yesterday.

If the weather this week is okay you should be fine.

Don't like your chances.  They'll be looking for revenge after an 8-6 loss last weekend (I think I heard that was the score).
