In the same respect Team Taranaki probably don't have all of Taranaki's best players in their squad either, for similar reasons. Although the fact they can call on them whenever it might suit either party is the problem.

If you think a side playing in any league can just call upon any players they want and not have a registered squad then you definitely need to clarify your understanding.

Are NCR and PNM not basically rep teams? In the regions you have to have the best players playing for 1 "club" as there isn't enough depth. Otherwise go back to a purely Wgtn league

long time no hear and you're still a fudgeing clown

Is there a limit to how many players Team Taranaki can register in a season? BTW I'm fairly on the fence in regards to TT

Fuck this stupid game

I don't think there is a squad limit for CL teams, but can't players come and go from TT as they please? Seems like a different arrangement to any other club in the league.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Not everyone in Hawkes bay wants to play for Rovers

We played against sides this year with players capable of central league football (pacific premiership)and we  had some of the best players in hawkes bay playing for us. Players that I'm sure NCR wanted. But not everyone can travel each week, not everyone wants to.

Go TT!!!!

Same with NCR. The best players in the Hawkes Bay region play for NCR. Not Taradale, Maycenvale, Havelock North etc...

You obviously don't know a hell of a lot about football past the Wellington City area.   The best players in the Hawkes Bay region do not play for NCR.   There are some very good players who do play for Taradale, Maycenvale, Havelock North etc who, for their own reasons (be that lack of ambition, can't travel every second weekend, loyal to their own Club) do not want to play for NCR.    Perhaps in the future when we can set in place a pathway for Hawkes Bay players and get rid of some of the tall poppy syndrome deflected NCR's way we may be able to fully represent the HB playing strengths.

To say that NCR has the best players in the Hawkes Bay region, therefore they are a rep team, is a crock.

If NCR did have all the best players in the Hawkes Bay Region they would probably of won the CL this year but they didn't…

sorry couldn't help taking the opportunity to poke the borax a bit.

NCR has always been a top club that manages to attract top players from all over the country not just the HB and this is why they have won so many top level comps over the years.

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

The reality is that clubs in the regions don't have the player numbers to be competitive consistently in Central League wiith the exception of NCR. The addition of teams from Wairarapa, Wanganui, Manawatu etc must be encouraged to assist in providing football at the highest level possible. If this means representative teams playing strong clubs teams from Wellington then it should be encouraged.

The benefit for Wellington teams is that many players from the regions move to Wellington anyway which increases the strength of local clubs sides. You'd be a dreamer and narrow minded into thinking that regional clubs can make it on their own into Central League and stay there without regional representation. NCR excluded.

away goals could be important in these play off games i feel. think it might be a tight tussle. picking both sides will have or be doing their homework.  a change to turf might be tactical but not a huge impact i doubt.  whats with a 3 week break between games. tt with a 2 week break.  will be closer then the 4-1 aggregate last year id imagine.

break is only a couple of weekends

Who are Naki's players of note?

Should of said Wharfs with 3 week break.   And now it would seem TT with 3 week break between last game and first playoff also.

Players of note??. Not argentinian ;) or flying from Auckland. ha.  Just a bunch of honest hard working kiwi kids by looking at media reports etc. Good ol internet.

names like varela, ibrahim and palma don't sound too local ;)

How local are the surnames of the Waterside squad I wonder! No, I don't really. Football is a worldwide sport so I expect a few imports.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

seeing waterside was started from imported wharf workers it's not surprising they have a favourable import policy.

or just fishing?

NZ is a multicultural society. It has been for a long time now. Its not like everyone with a foreign surname has just arrived. Some are even born and raised here.

Just responding to Feverish's seemingly disparaging comment about the foreign names in TT's squad list.

so thats 3 teams down in the relegations which will have a few looking for blood.

previous 3 teams down had north wellington put too the sword even when not there fault.

Same this year so lets see if people have learned that shark happens in football so don't loose sleep over it.

It's like a team not showing up for the second leg of the promotion play offs cause you won the first one……..

unlucky horseshead21 and feverish i know you will get some ribbing but i am sure the squad will do better now they know the road needed to travel.

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

Well said Spartacus, it's a shame that Horsehead can't take the ribbing. Bet Miramar won't be fond of Wharfies given they are the casualty of today's loss.

a choke would be winning the first leg 4-0 and losing the second 5-0

So is 2-0 up at half time a choke?

It's football mate. I've been around it a bit in my time. Seen it all before. Disappointing to be on the receiving end but life goes on..
