How can Upper Hutt be favourites, only managed a draw with Tawa seconds, lady Goal Keeper won't foot it she's just not good enough, drops easy balls in womens CL, heard she was at fault for Tawa's goal but also pulled off a great save

sounds like the club's focus is women's footy

Yes but they have been a club in freefall the last few seasons. But looking at the transfers page have picked up some solid Central League players from Petone to help them stabilise. I'm sure by half way through the season they will be the side to beat.

Isn't their female goalkeeper a full NZ Rep? If so would imagine better than most other keepers in Cap 1.

As a neutral (I live near the UH ground but not from Wellington and don't have any club links here) I saw the game thought she was very good actually.  Good communication and organising of the defensive screens.

Harsh to say she was at fault for the goal but can understand the comment.  Beaten on a dive.  Based on what else she did, I think that she will think that she should have stopped it.  I do wonder if physicality will be an issue.  Teams may look to target with big bodies at times at corners etc.  It will need some strong refereeing I suspect

Upper Hutt hit the frame of the goal in the goalless (by both teams) second half three times and had another excellent cross screaming out for just someone to touch it and it was in.  They should have won easily IMHO.

Upper Hutt 5 Naenae 1 Hatty to Richard McLay.

Could have been a few more.  Game a bit scrappy.  Naenae will run all day but will struggle against any good side

Going to be a tight league. All teams have dropped points!
8 teams separated by 1 point. 2 teams yet to get off the mark!

Upper Hutt 4 -1 over Marist after being one down.  Despite being behind never really looked like they would loose

LOL paying for any player at this level of football is bordering on insane let alone 4k...................

I am pleased that they have got back to their winning ways after 2 years of poor results and a double down of relegation.

Whilst these players will provide immediate results there will be a problem in future seasons as at least two of the imports are in their late 30s.

A few years ago Upper Hutt imported older players to help with promotion and it all fell apart once they made the Central League as there was no succession plan.

It wasn't that long ago they had 800 kids playing for them and were winning regional titles etc. Pedro top player poor coach.

not sure it is all Pedro's fault you can only work with what you have. Agree good junior numbers but struggle to keep them at 13 and 14 grade

I can confirm Dawson turned up to golf the other day with a set from 1872 so clearly rolling in cash.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

The big question with The Greyhound is whether he's on a per game fee or cash up front. His knees are only good for 9 hours of football a season.

Just heard Mar maybe defaulting to Tawa tomorrow. Friggin joke if it's true! Amatuer! Surely a club like that has enough depth for three teams!

Permalink Permalink

They have withdrawn their side from Cap 3 making that a 9 Team league now

Confirmed as a default on the sportspulse fixtures for Cap 1

What a joke!!

It's stupid they can play on Sundays and maximise the drop down rule! They obviously don't have enough players, something is going majorly wrong if a club that size cant put three teams together!!

This is crazy - Do they get fined for this?

And also how do the teams in Cap 3 feel now that they get two games less?

No fine for withdrawal, just defaults if (1) not enough notice given or you play in the leagues with no allowance default as per rule 19.9. Its My guess you will not get your teams registration fee back for a withdrawl.

I think I heard McLay got four and Dawson did well also. Money well spent. Their pace was too much I think.
