16 grades!  And yes, someone has to play at the bottom :)

Looking forward to some good natured play and of course, the usual banter.

Is there anyone else playing in Grade 16 reading this?  Let us know here how your pre-season has shaped up.

The mightly Slayers have had a couple of warm up games, and lets just say, we can only get better :)

We only entered a week and a half ago, half our side are Masters age but couldn't get a second side in to Masters when we were over-subscribed so we're in 16 hopefully with a few youngsters to run around for us.

We're running both the Naenae Pace Masters side and the Nighthawks in 16 so the more elderly of us could turn up in Masters Three or Sixteen depending on the week.

Should be some good amusement.

Had a bit of a run between the two sides during the week which ended up close and a side made up of masters age from the two sides beat the Stop Out Black Masters side 3-1 a couple of weeks back.  Probably have a run tomorrow as well.

Other than we could be doing introductions at Naenae before we take on the Brooklyn Pints on opening day.

Hard News, you will most proberly know more of the Pints than your own team. If you are playing at home make sure you have the bar will stocked as the pints have a large bunch of supporters that travel with them, nice guys.

The Slayers have had two warm up games with both resulting in heavy defeats. Still, it was good to get the boots out and have a run around before the season proper.

According to the draw in CF we don't have a team to to play in round 1. An earlier version of the draw posted here had us up against a Stokes Valley team but I guess they have dropped out. Does anyone know the likelyhood of a team to replace them?

Go the mighty Slayers!
Yes we may have lost the two preseason warm up's by the slightest of margins (9 - 4, 7-1) but rest assured we will be hitting our straps come the first real game!

Woohoo, it looks like we have a game according to the lastest Draw.

Does anyone know if games will be scheduled for Easter?

Most grades will prob have a double header

I would think it will just be the top grades that have a double header, us lesser mortals should just have Saturday.

Would mean we can get out and watch some football Monday which would be great news.

Back to the Grade at hand.

A tradition of the Slayers is that after each game, we nominate our Dick of the Day based on misdemeanours during or around the match.

One of the duties of being D.O.T.D. is to supply the team with half time refreshments the following week.

This is nearly always beer, but can vary from champagne, vodka soaked oranges or cheap homemade sambuka shots....

What are some of our other cellar dwelling team traditions?

We'll be establishing new traditions.

Of course standard Naenae traditions will involve a dick of the day and an enforced consume of a half in front of all in the club rooms (visiting teams please note - this includes you) and a pint for the nominated player of the day for any teams in the clubrooms during the speeches.

I was going to say, watch your hubcaps, but then I remembered the Slayers lads are from Upper Hutt so I'm sure they have it covered.

Ah, the good times had after a game at Naenae. Is it still the glass C*ck that gets drunk out of, or has that now disappeared also.

Now now... We in Upper Hutt are above common theiving.

We keep ourselves busy with the import and manufacture of P for eventual supply in Porirua.

That and in-breeding.  Although we aren't as dedicated to that as much of our friends in Stokes Valley and Wainuiomata.

Capital 16 games are now on http://www.monte.co.nz which is a fun (free) game where you can bet with funny-money if you feel inclined.

It should be pretty self explanatory.  If you don't have a log-in already, just register and start with $500 to bet the games.

2-2 (I think) between mighty Unicycles against PC this afternoon on a rock hard Ngatitoa.

It wasn't cold, so I could actually breathe when I ran, and I don't even feel tired for it. I'd be all for summer football if it wasn't for Cricket.

See the Nighthawks opened with a solid 2-0 win.

Were there any traditional bursts of pace down the flank from HN to be witnessed?

If you mean chasing the balls that went out when he was actually ON the sideline, then no, there was not any to my knowledge

Wilso lucky not to get a yellow, Cosmos close to our player of the day.  Good fun, great lads the Pints as well.

So what did the ginger one do to deserve a yellow?

That's a bit harsh. I thought he must've seen someone he mistook for Stefan and tried to cut him in half.el grapadura2009-04-04 20:29:40

His name was Miguel and he made the mistake of using his superior skill to get around me, mistakingly thinking I wouldn't take him out illegally.

Best bit was when the very same Miguel stood in front of the ball when we had a freekick and I politely informed him he should respect the distance for the freekick (I said f**k off and pointed back down the pitch). One of his team mates took exception, called me a fat c**t, and looked like he wanted to have a go. I might have taken him seriously but he was about 4 foot tall.
